Obituary: Mr. Gene Edward Childers, age 85, of Douglasville, GA, passed away on 31, 2017. He was born 29, 1931 in Atlanta, GA to the late James Levy and Clara Luke Holland Childers. Mr. Childers served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. During his time in the armed forces, he served as a Combat Air Crewman. He then began a career as an Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) Federal Agent. In 1978, after retiring from the government, he opened National Vehicle Recovery of Georgia, Inc. He graduated from the Atlanta Law School with a Law Degree. He is survived by his wife, Penny Childers of Douglasville; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Gene and Debbie Childers of Dallas, GA and Steven Edward Childers of Jacksonville, FL; daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly Lynn and Scott Swann of Dallas, GA and Juliane Michelle and Adam Zuckerman of Mandeville, LA; brothers and sisters-in-law, James L. and Reba Childers of Loganville, GA and Calvin and Edna Childers of Sandy Springs, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and John Nash of Mableton, GA; grandchildren, Brian Michael Childers, Taylor Lynn Swann, Lauren Kaitlyn Swann, Jennifer Lynn Zuckerman, and Ashley Michelle Zuckerman; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on , 4, 2017 at 2:30 PM from Sweetwater Memorial Park. Obituary: Carolyn Evans Childers of Winder, GA passed away on 26, 2015 at the age of 80. a long and courageous battle with cancer, Carolyn passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends. Carolyn grew up in Oconee and attended Bogart High School and Athens Business School. Outside of being a stay at home mother and wife for years, Carolyn returned to work in the Oconee School System serving as a teacher aide in both the Elementary and Primary schools for 22 years, retiring in 1998. Her church was a very important part of her life and was a member of Hebron Christian Church since childhood. She enjoyed music, playing the piano and organ and singing in the church choir. She was not shy about her support of the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves. For those who knew and loved her, she will be remembered for her grace, laugh, smile, friendship, and love of God. These traits are only a few of a very long list. She was a loyal and dedicated wife, mother, aunt, niece, cousin and friend whose heart was bigger than life. She is now at peace with her Heavenly Father and those who preceded her in death. Memorial Services for Carolyn will be held at Smiths Memory Chapel, 755 Atlanta Highway SE, Winder, GA 30680. Family will receive friends on , 28 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Memorial Service will be , 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the Smiths Memory Chapel. Interment will be at the Hebron Christian Church cemetery. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 59 years, J.C. Childers, Winder, GA; son Mark Childers, Winder, GA; daughter, Lori Childers, Atlanta, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Ray Evans and Lizzie Lou Evans and her precious son, Christopher Todd Childers. Carolyn also leaves behind a niece, nephews, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, many cousins who also love her dearly, and her beloved cat Gracie. Flowers are welcome as Mom loved them. Obituary: Mrs. Anne Miller Childers, 80, died peacefully 3, 2017 at Hospice House Satilla after a short illness. She was born in Jenkins, Kentucky, but grew up in Erwin, Tennessee as part of a loving and extended family. As a member of the large Miller family and the daughter of founding church members at Calvary Baptist Church, Anne was raised surrounded by numerous cousins who were her closest friends and those relationships continued throughout her life. She and her husband Ben moved to Waycross in the 1960s when he was hired at the YMCA as a Program Director who moved into the Executive Director role. She was a part of the growth of the local YMCA as a longtime staff member and a committed volunteer, donor and advocate throughout her more than 50 years in this community. The culmination of that lifetime of service was reflected in the renaming of the facility as the Ben and Anne Childers YMCA in 2009. Anne was a stalwart member of First Baptist Church Waycross, the Gleaners School class, a regular volunteer in the office and served on a variety of committees throughout her life. The church honored her for that service as Woman of the Year on a Mothers Day . Her parents, Hyder Miller and Lena Brown Miller, her husband, Ben H. Childers, Jr, and her brothers Fred Miller, Hubert Miller and Clarence Miller precede Mrs. Childers in death. Survivors include one son, Butch Childers (Tina) of Jacksonville, FL; one daughter, Jan Brogdon (Jim) of Fernandina Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Brad Brogdon (Amanda), Jake Brogdon, Jessica Childers, Coleman Childers, and Chloe Childers; two sisters, Mildred Silvers and Brenda Kegley (Bob) both of Erwin, TN; one brother, James Miller of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a sister in law, Letha Sloan of Sarasota, FL, brother-in-laws, Bob Childers of the Villages, FL, Ralph Childers of Corbin, KY, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Anne is also survived by a large number of friends made through a lifetime of connections in both Erwin and Waycross, along with recent caregivers who have been like family. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. , 7, 2017 at First Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends 5 until 7 p.m. , 6, 2017 at Music . Memorial gifts to honor Annes life can be made to the Childers YMCA, First Baptist Church, Waycross or the Family Life at the Calvary Baptist Church in Erwin, Tennessee.
