Obituary: Helen Simpson Callaway, beloved sister, sister-in-law and aunt to many nieces and nephews, passed away at her home , 5, 2010, after as extended illness. She was born in Atlanta on 29, 1918 and enjoyed 92 years of life surrounded by family and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her proud parents, Mr. and Mrs. John P. Simpson, and her beloved husband, Raymund R. Callaway. She is survived by her brother, Jack P. Simpson, and his wife, Peggy Pair Simpson, and their four children and families: Gay Baldasare and husband, Frank; Bonnie Reavis and husband, Bob; Tim Simpson and wife, Leighanne; and Sunny Barr and husband Dennis; as well as eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Affectionately called Sista, she enjoyed being involved in the lives of her family, their children and grandchildren. Helen was an accomplished musician, excelling in organ, piano and saxophone. While in college, she played lead saxophone in a popular all girls orchestra performing at college and other dancing events. She attended Girls High School in Atlanta, graduating with honors. She then went on to graduate with honors from Agnes Scott before attaining her Masters Degree from Emory University. Helen taught elementary school before becoming the youngest school principal in the Atlanta City School System at McClatchey Elementary School, where she served until she retired. Raymund and Helen were long-time members of Northside Drive Baptist Church and Druid Hills Country Club. This stately lady of poise and intellect touched the lives of thousands through her music, teaching, leadership and travel. As a devout Christian, Helen Simpson Callaway has joyfully joined her mother, father and devoted husband, Raymund, in Heaven. services will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill Chapel on , the eighth of at one oclock in the afternoon with the Reverend Dr. Karen Massey officiating. Entombment will take place at Arlington Memorial Parks Sunrise Chapel following the service.
