Obituary: Christiane (Marshall) Blanchard, age 75, of Jupiter, FL and formerly of Oneonta, NY, passed away peacefully evening, 15, 2015 after a prolonged battle with a degenerative neurological disorder. Chris was born Christiane Maria Marschall in 1939 in Schweidnitz, Schlesien, Germany to Emil Konrad Marschall and Elfriede Elisabeth Klings. She was predeceased by her parents, two loving step fathers, Ernest Bolton and William Mueller, and her sister, Roswitha Carvill. Born just three months after the Polish Campaign began, Chris knew nothing but war from her first breath and she and her mother and sister spent nearly two years under Soviet occupation after the war. were expelled from Schlesien, now Silesia, Poland, and lived more than three years in a refugee camp in Hann.-Münden Germany. In 1950 they emigrated to Otsego , New York. This is where life truly began for Chris, and where her resilience and gifted mind began to shine. Entering the US with rudimentary English learned as a refugee and on her Atlantic crossing, Chris thrived in Oneonta schools, graduating Valedictorian with the highest Regents score in the state of New York that year. She was awarded five scholarships and attended St. Lawrence University in the Adirondacks. In 1958, she met her loving husband, Jack, and shared life with him for the next 57 years. She was a devoted wife and mother of two daughters, Laura (Jupiter, FL) and Suzanne (Westford, VT), grandmother of Tyler and Sarah (Westford, VT), and aunt to her niece and nephew Lisa Turner (Wappinger Falls, NY) and Christopher Turner (Washington, DC). managing the family business, Blanchard Industries, for five years, Chris acquired her own business, Blanchard Travel Agency in South Orange, NJ, which she owned for 11 years until they moved to California. The agency gave the family the opportunity to travel the world. She was successful in all her endeavors, giving of herself to her community, and loved by all. An unexpected gift of her disability was the discovery that she was a talented painter, a trait she shared with her sister but had never explored. She produced beautiful works including blank watercolor notecards, which she gave to residents at a neighborhood nursing home in West Palm Beach. Always proud to contribute, she was thankful to share her artistic gift. Chris spent the last six years of her life in safe and loving care at Courtyard Gardens Assisted Living Residence in Jupiter, FL, for which her family is deeply grateful. Memorial services are planned for Florida and New York and will be announced when finalized. The family is planning a fund to aid scholars attending Saint Lawrence University. She will be truly missed by all. |
