Obituary: .Mildred Proffit Batson Mildred Proffit Batson died , 21, 2014, surrounded by loved ones, after a life of loving her husband, raising their children, and honoring her husband's memory. The fourth of five strong sisters, Mimi was born to Winston Kelly Proffit and Esther Gay Brame on 2, 1922, in Floyd Courthouse, Virginia. Mimi graduated from Mary Baldwin in 1943. She met Pascal Gayle Batson, M.D. in 1944 working at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. were wed 17, 1946, and married for 53 years. Dr. and Mrs. Batson came to Pensacola in 1951 for Dr. Batson to join the Medical Clinic. Mimi was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her son, Pascal Gayle Batson III, M.D. Mimi is survived by her sisters, Sue Lee Yeatts, Brame Spessard, Nancy Shelor, and Jane Pruett, all of Virginia, and her sister-in-law, Gloria Batson Galtney of Houston. Also surviving are her daughters, Cindy Anthony of Madison, MS; Ann Stokey (Jeff) of Gainesville, GA; and Susie Kimmel (Bob) of Pensacola. She was blessed with seven grandchildren: Rice Mellen, Philip Mellen, M.D., Rebecca Barnes, Jeffrey Stokey, Jr., Patrick Stokey, Mary Proffit Kimmel, and Winston Kimmel; and ten great-grandchildren. Mimi was intelligent, articulate, and known for her refreshing candor; one never had any doubt where she stood on an issue. A visitation will be held on , 28th at 11 am at First Presbyterian Church, Pensacola, with a memorial service to follow at noon. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her memory may donate to Manna Food Bank, Covenant Hospice, or First Presbyterian Church. |

Obituary: Mr. John Glover Batson, a resident of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away on , 21, 2015 at Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte after a short illness. He was 73 years old. John was born in Stoneham, MA on May 13, 1941, son of the late Edward R. Batson, Jr. and Catherine (Mackernan) Batson. John was born with spina bifida, but with the help of surgical intervention at the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Springfield, he was able to overcome his handicap and live a happy and productive life. John was a longtime resident of Melrose, MA and also of Columbia, MD. He was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School in 1959, and attended Northeastern University. He worked many years as a field service engineer for General Radio of Concord, MA. John was a devout Christian and an active church member. He served as a deacon at the Green Street Baptist Church in Melrose, and was a team leader for their Macedonian Ministries Christian Outreach Program. He also served as a deacon in the Columbia Baptist Fellowship in Columbia, MD. John leaves his wife Caroline (Adair) Batson of Port Charlotte, FL. He also leaves his daughter Rebecca Batson of Hagerstown, MD. He was the brother of the late Judith Clarke of Saugus, MA, Scott M. Batson of Wakefield, MA, Craig W. Batson, Robert S. Batson of Hollis, NH, Bradley E. Batson of Rumney, NH, and Teena L. Young of Port Richie, FL. He also leaves numerous nephews and nieces and cousins. A Memorial Service was held in his honor at the Green St. Baptist Church, 179 Green St., Melrose, MA. Gifts in Johns memory may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607. |
