Obituary: Theresa L. Boyer, 88, of New Britain died , 14, 2015 at Andrew House care. Theresa was predeceased by her husband, Daniel W. Boyer. Theresa was born on 24, 1926 in Bristol, Connecticut to the late Alphonse J. LaMothe and Cecile (Taillon) LaMothe. She was a resident of New Britain since 1955. Theresa was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, New Britain. She was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Ladies Guild and a former member of the Altar Society. Theresa was also an avid bowler, bowling for many years at Laurel Lanes in Plainville. She also enjoyed quilting. Theresa is survived by her daughter, Linda Ruggiero and her husband Wayne Ruggiero of Summerfield, FL.; her daughter Paula Boyer of New Britain, CT.; and her daughter Phyllis Swanson and her husband Roger Swanson of Tolland, CT. Her three grandchildren Brian Ruggiero of Summerfield, FL.; Karly Swanson of Bolton, CT; and Master at Arms, 2nd Class Jarod Swanson and his wife Lexi Swanson of Vallejo, CA. Her brother Paul LaMothe of Indian Harbor Beach, FL.; and her sister Alice Leger of Bristol, CT. She is survived by many nieces and nephews; her dear friend Albert Thibodeau; her special neighbors, David, Amy, Matthew, Alyssa and Tammy. She will be greatly missed by her beloved dog, Rosie. Theresa was predeceased by two brothers, Rene and Maurice LaMothe. services will begin , 21st at 9:00AM at the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Obituary: Ruth S. Boyer, 104 passed away on 20, 2016 in her home in Niantic. Ruth was born on 21, 1912 in Baltimore, MD to Reverend Hilko Swyter and Clara Mataikat Swyter. Ruth was devoted to her career as a teacher which began in a one-room school house in Iowa teaching students from 1st to 12th grade. She also was part of the "greatest generation" who did her part to support her country during World War II by working as a riveter known as "Rosie the Riveter" while her husband, L. Murray Boyer, served in the Navy in North Africa. Murray returned from the war, the Boyer family moved to Watertown, NY and later to Detroit, MI to support him in his hotel management career before finally settling in Niantic in 1963. Ruth will be remembered for her devotion to children, her family, willingness to help others, and for being a woman of faith. Ruth is predeceased by her husband, L. Murray Boyer Sr. and sister, Hilda. She is survived by her son, Lanson M. Boyer Jr. of Niantic and sister, Esther Houk of Ohio. Obituary: Nancy Hayes Boyd-Martin, age 82, died peacefully on 29, 2015 in Avon, CT. Our beautiful, loving mother was surrounded in her last days by her family and friends. Born on 29, 1933 in Atlanta, Georgia to Joseph Embry Boyd and Jessie Reynolds Boyd, Nancy grew up in Atlanta with her two older brothers, Joseph Embry Boyd, Jr. and William Lester Boyd whom she dearly adored. She attended The University of Georgia and was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. Nancy was formerly married to Paul Daniel Martin, of Atlanta, in 1952. Following her passion for teaching young children, Nancy pursued her career in early childhood education, specializing in Montessori education. For many years, she was a Montessori school teacher in Atlanta, Georgia which later led her to opening Montessori schools in Louisville, Kentucky and Tallahassee, Florida where she served as Director for both schools. Nancy was also a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, and active with First Presbyterian Churchs Circle Prayer Group and Musica Sacra choir. Carrying on her mothers tradition, Nancy was a long time member and former president of The Decatur Book Club, enjoying generations of lifelong friendships. Some of her favorite pastimes included her fond appreciation of music and art, sailing, entertaining, teaching etiquette and art classes, sharing family traditions, rooting for the Atlanta Braves, but most of all, spending quality time with her family. Nancys reasures were her two daughters and four grandchildren and anyone who knew her, knew Nancy was passionate about them, as she always relished their time together. Nancy had the ability to recognize the beauty in life, which she so caringly shared with others. Known to her family as Baaba, she will be remembered for her unconditional, dedicated love to her family and will be greatly missed by the many people she touched. Nancy is survived by her older brother William Lester Boyd of Austell Georgia, two daughters: Cynthia Reynolds Martin of Columbia, South Carolina and Maria Martin Mascoli of Avon, Connecticut, her son in law, Gregory Joseph Mascoli, four grandchildren, Matthew, SarahKatherine, Andrew and Caroline Mascoli, two nephews: Bill Boyd and Lester Boyd, nieces Wynelle Waters and JoAnn Aycock. A celebration of Nancys life will take place at a Mass of Christian Burial on , 5, 9:30 A.M. at the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Road, Avon. Obituary: Preston-William J. Boyd Sr., age 84, of Preston passed away peacefully after a brief illness at William W. Backus Hospital on 27, 2015. He was born in Norwich on 29, 1930 to the late Robert and Catherine (Barron) Boyd Soboleski. He married Norma (Smith) Boyd on 14, 1953 at Sacred Heart Church in Taftville. William was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy Class of 1948. He was employed briefly by the state of Connecticut Highway Division. He then went on to retire from General Dynamics as a computer programmer. William served in the US Navy aboard the USS Salisbury Sound from 1948-1952. He was an active member of the Westbrook Fishing Club in North Stonington. He was an active outdoorsman and for many years enjoyed frequent trips to his camp in Monson, ME. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son William Boyd Jr. and his wife Kathy of Allegany, NY, a daughter Bonnie Chase and her husband Lon of Plano, TX., a son Brian Boyd of Warwick, RI and a son Stephen Boyd and his wife Patti of Enfield. He also leaves behind grandchildren Miss Jill Chase of Plano, TX., Mrs Emily Chatlain and her husband Brian of Plano, TX., Felicia Boyd, Mickayla Boyd and Zander Boyd of Canterbury, a great grandson Graham Chatlain, a brother Robert G. Boyd of Preston and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister Doris Boyd Black. Obituary: Velma Marie Boyd was born in Springfield, MA on 20, 1945 to the late Lester and Mattie (Woodall) Richard, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2015. She was a resident of Hartford CT most of her life. Velma graduated from New Hampshire with a degree in Social Work and was currently furthering her studies in this field. Velma retired from the Village (also known as The Village for Families and Children) where she held several positions. She served as director of the Choice program and worked in foster care and adoption services. Velmas most recent duties included working with the unification unit. A branch of The Village focused on building strong families by not only reuniting children with their families, but by providing the needed support services to help families remain intact. Velma felt especially blessed by her service to these families and remembers them fondly. Velma had been a member of the Greater Hartford Alliance of Black Social Workers (GHABSW) since 1990. Since joining the local Chapter Velma served as member of the Breakfast Committee, Scholarship Committee, Youth Committee and Social Action. In addition, Velma served diligently as Chapter Delegate to the National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW). Velmas service on the national scene included Chairperson of Logistics for the annual NABSW conference, long standing member of the Steering Committee, in addition to volunteering with other national committees. Velma was a member of the NAACP and participated in the on Washington in 1963. Velma had always been involved in community action to change the plight of all people with an affinity to address issues facing African-Americans. Velma was a fighter for fairness, justice, peace and equality. She was a caring, dedicated individual who is always in a positive mood regardless of the circumstances. Velma was a warrior and would greet you with that familiar wheres my Hug before engaging in conversation. She exudes kindness and support to all who know her. Velma had shown her faith through her work and encourages all to use their talents to be change agents and not obstructionists. She believed that organizations need active participants and dedicated individuals who are willing to work for the long haul to make changes. Velma attended the Phillips Metropolitan CME Church where she served as a member of the usher, missionary, and hospitality ministries. Velma is survived by one daughter RoseMarie, her brothers, Lester Richard, Jr., and Joseph Brzys, sister, Dorothy Austin, two grandchildren Terrence and Taylah, a great grandchild, Haidyn, all of whom she loved very much, a host of other relatives and friends. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband and her sister Darlene Lareau. |
