Obituary: Keevan Burnside, father of Todd, Scott, Cheryl, Chris, and Kathryn-known as Barkeep to his friends, has made his last run and final crossing, and is now probably conducting the Glory Train. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on 19, 1939. He graduated from Davenport High School in Davenport, Iowa in 1957. He went on to Iowa State University as a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity, and graduated with his bachelors degree in Applied Arts in 1961. Keevan spent his career between engineering, architecture, design and owning his own model railroad accessories manufacturing business. He loved color and painting, having done some beautiful pieces in his lifetime. He was quite an artist. He created beautiful art with his talents. Keevan was a member of MENSA, he was an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, a lifetime member of the NMRA (National Model Railroad Association) in addition to many other model railroading groups, including the Boomers, where they call him Barkeep. Keevan was many things to many people. Most people, when they think of him, think of his love of trains. To say Keevan liked trains, both model and full-sized, would be much like saying a duck loves the water. In part, Colorados railroad history is what brought him to Colorado in the first place. Keevan was a traveler and explorer. He liked to get in the car and drive places. Not on a whim, mind you, but a well-planned and timed out trip. He would enjoy finding a place that might have some interesting history and explore it for a while, and there was usually some railroad history involved in such explorations. He loved driving with his drivers side window down while listening to the truckers talk on the CB radio and a cigarette in his hand. Keevan was a story teller. Hed tell stories of his youth, funny anecdotes from a road trip, of days gone by, or even something hed seen on TV. (The time he watched an hour of the Road Runner cartoons in a hotel on a trip he took while laughing hysterically was a favorite story of his) Set-em-up Barkeep, the Drinks are on Scoop. Obituary: Susan Margaret Burns, 91, of Westminster, CO died peacefully in her sleep 23, 2013. She was born 5, 1922 in Toledo, OH and is predeceased by her parents and her late husband; George Burns. Susan graduated from Western Reserve University with a Bachelor of Art in Political Science. She was proud to work as an employee of United Airlines for over 30 years. Susan is survived by her children and their spouses: Margaret Brown (Jim Horn), of Westminster, CO; Richard (Kate) Burns, of Philadelphia, PA; and Jean (Bruce) Deets, of Westminster, CO. Granny is also survived by six loving grandchildren and six loving great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn (Sherman) Myers, of Oconomowoc, WI, and their three daughters. Obituary: Scott R. Burns, 56, passed away on 21, 2011 at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado with his wife, Tena and friend, Dick LaRue by his side. He was born 30, 1954 in Joliet, Illinois to the late Raymond and Delores Burns. He was one of four children. graduation from high school Scott joined the military and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. While in the Navy he was an engine mechanic. He was very patriotic and proud to be an American. He was a long-time resident of Colorado Springs where he enjoyed the out of doors life style. Scott was stricken with ALS on May 11, 2010 but continued to live out his life with dignity. Scott and Tena participated regularly and were very active with the ALS Support Group of Colorado Springs. also recently became members of the Rocky Mountain G Scalers Train Club. Scott was an extremely kind and giving person, always being available to help people in anyway they needed him. Helping others was a very important part of his life. His strong faith is what got him through the challenges of life with ALS. Scott was the bravest person his wife, Tena ever met. Scott is survived by his devoted wife, Tena Quackenbush Burns of Colorado Springs; beloved pets, Freedom, Liberty and Justice their cats and Speedy their turtle; bother,Terry; sisters, Tammy and Denise; and numerous friends. A memorial service will be held for Scott on , 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Swan-Law Cascade Chapel, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Scotts honor to the ALS Association. under the direction of Swan-Law Directors, Colorado Springs, Colorado. |
