Obituary: BETTY JEAN BROWN CROPWELL - Nov. 5, 1927 - Jan. 11, 2017 Betty Jean Brown, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and an inspiration to many, has lost her determined fight with cancer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred K. Brown. She is survived by her sons, Jeff (Susan) Crain, George (Michelle) Crain, Kent (Barbara) Brown; daughter, Janice (Bob) Gillen; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Betty graduated from the University of Alabama and enjoyed a long career in medicine as a laboratory technician at several hospitals and clinics. The last several years before retirement, she managed the Endocrinology laboratory at UAB Hospital and Kirklin Clinic in Birmingham. She enjoyed dancing, playing bridge and was very active in her community, Pell City, Cropwell and the Logan Martin Lake area. Bettys exuberant presence will be missed by all and not soon forgotten. Service will be held , 13 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Kilgroe . A private family graveside service will follow. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Obituary: Betty Hardin Brown \ an 87 year-old native of Nashville, TN and longtime resident of Mobile passed away , 16, 2014. She was a longtime member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church, the Junior League of Mobile, and several Mystic Societies and enjoyed dancing golf, and tennis. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Rhea Hardin and Mae Francis Betty Hardin. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ernest L. Brown; son, Ernest Ladd Brown, Jr. (Barbara); granddaughter, Mimi Hardin Brown; brother, John R. Hardin; nieces and nephews, John R. Hardin, Jr., Pier Louise Hardin, James E. Brown, IV, Harris R. Mrs. Brown was born in Frankville, AL on 18, 1939 to the late Richard Oscar Braun and Mildred Tew Braun. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson. Obituary: services will be 2:00 pm , 9, 2017 at Southside Baptist Church for Benny Joe Brown, age 84, of Southside, who passed away , 5, 2017. Rev. Bob Thornton will officiate. Burial will be at Pilgrims Rest , Southside. Collier-Butler and Cremation Services is directing. Mr. Brown graduated from Southside High School in 1952. While actively farming for 63 years, he served on the Alabama Farm Federation Board, and was awarded Alabamas Outstanding Young Farmer in 1966. He was Mayor of Southside from 1976-1980. Over the years he served as deacon, and in other capacities at Southside Baptist Church. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Ryan Brown; father, William Buster Brown; mother, Grace Brown; brother, Don Brown; sister, Jane Armstrong Brown; and grandson, Landon Drew Jones. He is survived by his children, Vivian Ann (Steve) McCreless, Cecilia Diane (Larry) Jones, Joel Brown, William Brown, and Laura Brown; grandchildren, Holly (Jonathan) Ford, Joseph (Tala) McCreless, Kathryn (Justin) Smith, Benjamin (Tamera) Brown, Wesley Brown, and Savanna Brown; great-grandchildren, Layton Drew Jones, Mary Frances Ford, Rosalie Dearing Ford, and Eliana Grace Brown; sister, Patsy Loving; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Benjamin Brown, Wesley Brown, Gage Fuhrman, Layton Jones, Joseph McCreless, and Nathan Sewell. Honorary pallbearers are the Early Morning Coffee Friends at McDonalds. Obituary: Barto Louis Brown, III "Skip", 69 passed away 9, 2015 at his home in Mountain Brook. He was born 25, 1946, in Birmingham, the son of the late Barto Louis Brown, Jr. and the late Leila Mae Borland Gayler (Hugh). Skip graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1964 where he was a member of the Tophatters' Club and loved the reunions visiting with old friends. He graduated from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing in 1968. Skip is survived by the love of his life and best friend of 47 years, Sara Kathryn Norris Brown; his two sons: Barto (Bart) Louis Brown, IV (Laura); Barry Christopher Brown, Sr. (Heather); grandchildren: Holly, Anna Catherine, Louis, Sara Allen, Harrison, and Christopher Brown. He leaves behind his three sisters, Jeannie Brown Bradford (Harry), Debbie Brown Goldman (Jay), and Merrye Jane Brown Brunson (Bill). Lastly, he leaves behind a loving church family, a community family, and treasured friends to cherish his memory. Skip was Owner of Arnold-Brown Metals and Supply, LLC. He was an avid Alabama fan and a member of the Red Elephant Club and Tip off Club. He was a former member of the Shades Valley Rotary Club of Birmingham and faithfully served as a Deacon, taught School, and was active on committees at Brookwood Baptist Church where he was a member for 32 years. He also served in the Alabama Air National Guard. Skip was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who always had a great sense of humor and wit. A graveside Service for family and friends will be held at 10:30 a.m., , 13th, at Elmwood .
