Obituary: NORTHPORT | Ann Kathryn Anders Brown, age 82, died Dec. 31, 2014 at Hospice of West Alabama. A private service will be held on , Jan. 5, 2015 with Rev. Carl Wells officiating. A private burial will follow with Sunset , a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be 3 p.m. on , 5, 2015, at Northwood Hills Baptist Church in Northport.She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lloyd and Ann Broughton Anders; grandson, Jonathan David Brown; sister, Charlotte Anders Davis; brothers, Bobby Lloyd Anders and Thomas Edward Anders; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Falgout Anders.Survivors include her husband, William Clayton Brown of Northport; daughters, Kathy Suzanne Brown and Amy Lynn Brown both of Northport; sons, David Clay Brown (Debra) of Hamilton, Texas, and Paul Andrew Brown of Northport; sister, Carolyn Anders Patton of Tuscaloosa; brothers, Charles Larry Anders (Carolyn) of Salem, Ind., and Daniel Morris Anders (Janet) of Northport; brother-in-law, Bruce Edward Davis of Northport; grandchildren, Pamela Erin Brown Summerville (Frank) of Laurel, Miss., and Benjamin Clay Brown (Adrianne) of Tuscaloosa; and great-grandchild, Elizabeth Ann Summerville of Laurel, Miss.Kathryn was born on 1, 1932 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and grew up in Northport, Alabama. As a teenager she attended Tuscaloosa High School where she was a majorette in the band and before graduating in 1950 she served as head majorette. graduation she was too young for local employment so she and several friends moved to Washington D.C where she gained employment as a file clerk for the F.B.I. . a year of being homesick she returned to Northport and went to work for Gulf States Paper Corporation in their clerical offices. In 1954 she met and married her husband of 60 years. Together they had four children which she stayed at home to raise; completely devoting her life to them. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and was an active member of theNorthport Baptist Church where she taught the four year old school class, worked with the children's choirs and children's mission groups. One of her greatest pleasures was tending her flowers and always had sprays of color throughout theyard of any home in which she lived.In 1981 she became a grandmother to the first of two grandchildren that she adored and enjoyed spoiling. She thought nothing could have surpassed that joy until, in of 2013, she became the great-grandmother to Elizabeth Ann, her precious namesake. Together they enjoyed many tea parties even up until the last month of her life.Pallbearers will be nephews, Joe Patton, Skipper Davis, Robby Davis, Scott Anders, Mike Anders, and Dan Anders.Honorary pallbearers are Paul and Ann McMillian, Jane Ball, Geraldine Moore, Clara Cicero, and Jim and Barbara Anders.In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Operation Smile, Hospice of West Alabama or their choice of charity.Condolences may be offered at www.sunsetbrown-funeral.com. |

Obituary: Acton Eugene Brown: services will be at Rainbow Church of Christ at 12 Noon on , 12, for Acton Eugene Brown, 77, who died 10, at his home in Gadsden. He will lie in state 1 hour prior to the service. Pastors Blake Jones and Norman Flynn will officiate. Burial will be in Rainbow Memorial . Collier-Butler directing. Mr. Brown was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be truly missed by all who knew him, but rejoice as reunites with his wife Barbara and his new eternal life with Christ. He worked in many ministries such as jail and nursing home ministries and the World Bible School to lead others to know Christ. He was an Elder and member of Rainbow Church of Christ and loved his church family, helping and serving others. He served in the Air Force and was retired from Gulf States Steel. He is survived by his son Gene (Susan) Brown of Southside, AL and daughters Judith Brown and Denise Ezell of Prattville, AL. Five grandchildren, Andrea (Dustin) Wilson of Jacksonville, AL., Nathan (Emily) Brown of New Orleans, LA, Jennifer Brown, Kendra and Brittany Ezell of Prattville, AL. Six great-grandchildren Gideon and Titus Brown of New Orleans, LA, Lauren, Claire and Evelyn Wilson of Jacksonville, AL and Seth Brown of Prattville, AL. Sister, Patricia Campbell of Columbus Georgia and Brother, Douglas (Sybil) Brown of Southside, Alabama; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Barbara Ann Brown and parents Acton & Sarah Brown. Pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Rainbow Church of Christ. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Radiology staff of Gadsden Regional who were always concerned about our fathers care and Amedysis Hospice who provided love and care to the entire family. Also appreciation is extended to close friend Don Dover. The family will meet at 530PM, and will accept friends for visitation from 6 to 8 PM at Collier-Butler . Flowers are appreciated (no potted plants) but in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the World Bible School at Rainbow Church of Christ. |
