Obituary: John Lee Jack Burgess 3/4/1928 - 2/22/2017 ..Ive got my love to keep me warm. The tale of Jack & Mary Elaine Burgess is a love story that we do not see enough of these days. Born in 1928, to John LeRoy & Lady Rebecca, Jack grew up in McMinnville, OR where he played trumpet in a local swing band and ran the 100 yard dash in 10 seconds flat. He served his country in Korea and went to Linfield on the GI Bill. Here he met his soon to be wife of 66 years Mary Elaine Erickson. Much of their courtship took place in the hospital where Jack spent 14 months recovering from tuberculosis. wrote love-letters to each other EVERY night. Yes, EVERY night! college, the two of them moved to Everett where they soon married and went to work at the family furniture store, Erickson Brothers. It still operates today on Broadway. Jack later opened his own furniture store (Devers) in Monroe. The wedding was on 9th of 1950. Together they raised 5 children: John (Darlene) Burgess, Jan (Jon) Fortier, Jim (Dixie) Burgess, Mary Jo MJ(Todd) Benner & Matthew Burgess. spoiled 8 amazing grandchildren: James JJ & Kyle Burgess - Katie, Benner - Jeremy, Jason and Jordan Mooring - Kanoe Holasz - Haley Fortier and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant child, Gregory and his younger brother, Sid Burgess of McMinnville. Jack is survived by his wife, Mary Elaine; their children, Don & Pat Erickson and the Jim & Joan Erickson family. There were countless family adventures on the shores of Tulare Beach or the ski slopes of the Cascades. Many summer days were spent in an old boat fishing, sailing or water-skiing. The church was important to Jack. He & Mary Elaine attended First Baptist of Everett where they served in several leadership positions. In later years, this amazing couple loved to travel. Some of their favorite trips included: Sweden, India, North Africa, The South Pacific, Italy, The rivers of Europe, and of course Hawaii. Nothing topped Hawaii. Jack could often be seen driving his beautiful 1929 Model A Ford that his wife gave him for their 50th wedding anniversary. If Heaven has a Model A Club, Jack is already the official greeter. Among the many organizations he belonged to were: • Moon On A (Model A Club) • Mukilteo Kiwanis Club • SAM (Senior Adult Ministry) • First Baptist Church • PAL of the Assistance League of Everett • Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at Linfield The memorial service will be held at 1pm on his 89th birthday, , 4 at First Baptist Church of Everett, 1616 Pacific Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church or The Assistance League of Everett, WA. Obituary: On 11, 2010 the world lost and amazing man, wonderful father, perfect husband, excellent friend, sweet son, awesome brother. Jeremy Lee Burgess born 6th 1977 lived a full life. He touched the lives of everyone he met, and in his short 32 years of life that was a lot of people. Jer could walk into a room and lift everyones spirits with just a smile. He was always there for you when you needed him, to listen or to offer advice. Getting to spend time with Jer made you want to be a better person, made me a better person, parent, and wife. Jer was blessed with the gift of gab, and he used it well. He loved to share his take on God and Jesus, and his thoughts on life, love, and happiness. Jer will be greatly missed, but always loved. Jer is survived by his wife Kristy, his four children Melissa, Joey, Remy, and Sadie. His parents Marvin and Cheryl, his sister Terra, and Grandparents Jerry and Audrey Burgess and Loyd Dovel. Memorial services will be held at Yakima Bible Baptist Church, 6201 Tieton Dr in Yakima, on 18th at 2:00pm, with a potluck to follow at his families home. Obituary: James W. Burgess met with his Lord and Savior on , Dec.28, 2014. In his last weeks, Jim shared that he was about to embark on his greatest journey ever. Jim served in the US Navy as a medic during WWII. He was proud that his father and all four of his brothers served in the military. The family moved to Alaska in 1964 where Jim was an avid fisherman with many BIG FISH tales. He also was a hunting guide in the Alaska bush and worked on the Alaska Pipeline. Moving to Yakima, WA in 1992, he made many close friends with the Senior Saints at Yakima Bible Baptist Church. The family would like to thank these friends for their care and support in his last days. Jims passions included volunteering as a chaplain in Yakima jail. He was also the Assistant Director of Yakimas H.O.P.E. Intl. Addictions Recovery Program. Through these two programs alone, Jim made many friends. Jim leaves behind his wife of 66 years, Lynnette, his daughters, Roni Helms, Sandi (Les) Helms, Jodi (Gary) Benetti, 9 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. His son, Daniel J. Burgess precedes him in death. Graveside services will be at Tahoma at 10:00 a.m. on , 2, 2015, followed by a Celebration of Life at Yakima Bible Baptist Church located at 6201 Tieton Drive. Family service arrangements have been entrusted to Langevin \ El Paraíso in Yakima. |
