Obituary: Ruth Mabel Wood Bowers Ruth Mabel Wood Bowers, 88, Yakima, passed away on , 30th of natural causes. She was born on 24, 1922 in Norfork, Arkansas to Henry Gideon Wood and Gertrude Wilmoth Payne Wood. She was one of 15 brothers and sisters. She thrived in school and her favorite subject was algebra. She played guitar in the high school string band and typed 91 words a minute on a manual typewriter. She graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1943 and moved to Kansas City, MO, where she found work as a fabric dyer and quality control inspector and later worked on the thread grinding machine at a garment factory. She married Gene Leonard Bowers in 1948 and became a housewife and mother. Gene worked construction so they moved to various towns in Missouri until his death in 1960 from a construction accident. Ruth moved her family to Yakima, WA in 1962 to be near her beloved sister, Joyce (Wood) Bedlington and her family. her children were older, Ruth ran her own housekeeping business for a number of years, before she retired in the early 90s. She moved to Wapato, WA in 2005 to live with her son, Robert and his family. Ruth loved to garden and cook and placed a lot of value on her family. She loved music, especially country-western and swing style jazz. She was a warm, compassionate and very hospitable person with a sharp sense of humor and southern charm. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene, her parents and numerous sisters and brothers, including Joyce Bedlington, formerly of Yakima. She is survived by three sons, one daughter and their families: Daniel and Christy Bowers of Ellensburg, WA, Robert and Denise Bowers of Wapato, WA, Steven Bowers of Yakima, WA and Patricia Bowers of Tustin, CA. She is also survived by six grandsons: Andrew, Bryan, Aaron and Lucas Bowers, and Brendon and Corey Clapsaddle, and three granddaughters, Casie, Stephanie and Tarah Bowers, one granddaughter-in-law, Tonya Bowers, two great grandsons: Tyler Bowers and Jack Petersen and two great granddaughters: Trinity and Asia Bowers, as well as many nieces and nephews across the country. Visiting hours will be from 4 until 8 p.m. and at the Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. services will be held at the Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel on , 5, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Concluding services and burial will follow at West Hills Memorial Park.
