Obituary: Stephanna Jane Bos was born 25, 1936, in Amsterdam, Montana, to Anna Veltkamp and the late Stephen Veltkamp, who passed away 8 months prior. She was the youngest of nine children, four of whom were WWII veterans. She passed away 28, 2015, surrounded by family. She yearned to know her father and now is with him. Stephanna graduated from Manhattan High School in 1955 and worked at Danhof Chevrolet in Amsterdam. She married Donald Bos in 1957 at Manhattan Christian Reformed Church in Churchill, Montana. had four children, Alana, D. Stephen, Julia and Mark, all born in the 1960s. Her second child, Stephen, was born the day before Kennedy was assassinated and she told of how she cried with both joy and sorrow on that day. For most of her life, Stephanna took care of others in a variety of jobs. She worked in several retail positions, including a job in the 1970s at one of the earliest gourmet food stores in Bozeman, The Red Barn, where her children fell in love with the exotic Mexican food and huge Maine lobsters. She had to learn how to handle these live lobsters, and not always successfully. Eventually, she became a jeweler for Jensen Jewelers and was proud of this success. In 1985, Don and Stephanna left the family ranch near Churchill. In 1988, they moved to Vashon Island, Washington, becoming caretakers at Misty Isle Farms. Following this position, they worked for Stan and Barbara MacDonald, founders of Princess Cruise Lines, in Medina, Washington. eventually retired to Redmond and most recently, Lake Stevens, Washington. Stephanna loved music and like her father and siblings, was a talented singer. Her high school class mates predicted she would star in the opera. Instead, she served as youth choir director for her church while her children were young. She also loved baking, decorating and the holidays. Stephanna was enamored with throwing big holiday gatherings for her extended family and often hosted dinners for 40 people or more. She was always quick to add extra butter and salt to the turkey and stuffing whenever one of her children tried to cook Thanksgiving dinner. Stephanna was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Jim, Hank, Tom and Harold; and her sisters, Theresa, Henrietta and Christine. She is survived by her husband, Don; sister, Margaretha Broekema; sons, Stephen (Heather) and Mark (Lynn); daughters, Alana and Julia; grandchildren, Sophie, Hailey and Grace Bos; and many, many nieces and nephews. |
