Obituary: -- Memories of Carol Bishop-- Mom was born 1st, 1938 to William E. & Lois Hembree, in Pasco, Washington. She was only 77 when she passed. She spent most of her childhood years in Wilsall, Montana with her Grandpa Claude & Grandma Reba Metier. She married Marian Swandal on 5th, 1954, and they had a beautiful baby girl. named her Sherry Lee. Marian passed away 12th, 1956. She and Robert Bishop married 20th, 1956 and had 3 beautiful children to grow their family, Niki Ann, Wayne W, and Randy Leigh. Mom worked in our early years of life at Montgomery Ward, Schiff Shoes, Herford association in Montana, & Janzten Inc in Portland OR, until she started her own house cleaning business. She had clientele in Portland, Or., and Vancouver, WA. All her clients loved her and were extremely satisfied at the quality and detail she provided to get the jobs done. Her clientele grew by only referral. When Mom decided to stop cleaning homes, she became an Ombudsman for the Vancouver Washington area. She helped many Elderly and truly enjoyed the satisfaction of helping and preserving ones dignity in need. In Mom's spare time she loved to garden and her husband Robert hand dug her two beautiful waterfalls that she truly enjoyed sitting by and planting flowers around them. The little frogs had a safe haven in and around the ponds. She and Dad also love to square dance and had many wonderful friends and times together. She had a love of music all her life, with a record collection with some of the greats. Glen Miller Band, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Andy Williams, Boston Pops directed by Arthur Fiedler and Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass to name a few. And of course she loved to have my Dad play his guitar and sing to us. Dad would make one of Moms favorites (homemade vanilla milkshakes) before the singing began. Mom made all our birthdays special as she said that was "our special day". And we always felt the love she put into that special day. Mom was a huge fan of Rush Limbaugh and listened to him daily. She was able to go and hear him speak when he was in Portland. She also attended a rally to hear Newt Gingrich speak and was honored to meet and shake his hand. She was accurately aware of current political events in our Country. We all learned a lot from her desire to preserve the life style our Fore Fathers fought so hard to give us. Mom's love of animals was always apparent. When we lived near Goat Mountain in Montana there was a real bad wind storm and we were coming back from town and spotted a red tailed hawk lying on the side of the road. Of course she insisted we pick it up. Between Mom and Wayne they nursed it back to health and named it Eric. Someone from Michigan had heard of the injured hawk and came to visit us. He asked to take the bird back with him and our hawk was in many documentary films on these types of birds. She also had many dogs and cats that were her babies when we all moved out. The only time I saw Mom not like an animal was when we lived at the foot of the Bridger Mtns. and a rabid skunk came running toward us. Dad had shown her the day before how to load the 22 just in case there was something like this that came up. Well much to Sherry's and my dismay she never was able to load the 22 and we all ran in the house after much commotion. Thankfully Dad got rid of the skunk! Mom was an excellent cook! One of our many joys was when she made bread and cinnamon rolls. She would let us pull off a hunk of dough and roll in butter and then cinnamon and sugar and down our mouths it went. Such a pre-treat to the wonderful goodness to come out of the oven. Also her son-in law claims she made the best gravy he has ever tasted to this day and will always think of Carol when he has a taste for gravy. Mom won a bowling pin trophy for bowling a perfect score. What a thrill, she loved to bowl. Mom and Dad loved going sight seeing on their Honda Goldwing, made many fun trips and made many friends. also went on several cruises with friends and had many wonderful memories. For the last nine years Mom was a resident of the Prestige . She is survived by her constant companion and loving husband Robert Bishop of Washington, her 4 children: Sherry Knowlton, Niki Cervenka (Robert), Wayne Bishop (Rebecca) & Randy Bishop. She has seven Grandchildren: Travis Landers, Stephanie Mantifel *(Mitchell), Christopher Cervenka, Jamie Fink, Jessica Bishop, Austin Bishop(Kayla), & Weston Bishop. There are 3 Great Grand Children: Ethan Landers, Adam Bishop, Ellesin Mantifel; Three brothers: Bill & Guy Hembree and Murl Dean. |
