Obituary: Jennifer Jane Boatright, 54, was suddenly and unexpectedly taken from us on 13th. She was the beloved daughter of Jim and Gloria Boatright and an exceptional woman who will be sorely missed by everyone that knew her. Her mother was blessed over the past 2½ years by the loving and tender care from her devoted daughter. Jenn, as she liked to be called, cherished her roles in life as a daughter, sister, aunt, godmother and friend. She was born in Salina, Kansas but grew up in Northern Virginia. Jennifer graduated from Annandale High School in 1978 where she distinguished herself in athletics and scholarship. She then attended and graduated from Virginia Tech in 1983 with a BS in Education. graduation, she went to Richmond, Virginia where she became a police officer in the city force. This pursuit was cut short by a back injury during a training exercise. Jenn then moved to Boston, Massachusetts where she lived for about 26 years. She started and managed a home decorating and renovation business. It was staffed mostly with women and became quite successful primarily through referrals. In 2011 she sold her house and moved to Williamsburg to help care for her mother. During much of Jenns adult life, she experienced a series of serious health issues that resulted in many surgeries. The last two occurred during her relatively short time here in Williamsburg. She faced each with strength and determination and always remained optimistic with her thoughts fixed on the future. Each time she would move into a rapid recovery mode so that she could get back quickly to doing the things she cherished. Jennifer was blessed to have a network of close friends, a wonderful godson and her loving family. Her network of friends spanned the years from her youth to the time of her passing and she kept in regular contact with all. Jennifer will be remembered best for her tenderness and love, her enduring friendships, her constant efforts to befriend and help anyone in need and her love of animals. From her college days on, Jennie always had at least one dog and one or more cats. While living in Williamsburg, her treasured pet was a Shih Tzu named Oscar. As Jenn drove around town, Oscar could be observed in his special seat on the passenger side serving as navigator. If you crossed paths with Jennifer you would likely have seen her companion, Oscar, as they seemed to be bonded. Jennifer is survived by her parents, James Francis and Gloria Jane Boatright of Williamsburg, VA, her brothers James Jeffrey of Herndon, VA and William Sellar Boatright of Virginia Beach, VA, her nieces Katherine C. Dawley and Angelina Boatright, her nephew Lt. Michael James Boatright, USA, and her godson John Sinclair. Friends may visit with the family on , 28 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM, at Nelsen , 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg VA 23188. Obituary: Gloria Jane Boatright, 80, died on 15, 2016, in Williamsburg VA. struggling for many years with a progressive and debilitating disease, she went peacefully with her adoring husband, Jim, by her side. Gloria and Jim were together for over 59 years, their marriage based on true love and respect for each other. While her family and friends will miss her dearly we know she is in a better place. Gloria is survived by her husband, James Francis Boatright of Williamsburg; her, sons, James Jeffrey (Linda) Boatright of Herndon VA and William Sellar (Sherry) Boatright of Virginia Beach VA; her, granddaughters, Katherine C. (Jeff) Dawley of Ashburn VA and Angelina Palihan Boatright of Virginia Beach; her grandson Michael J. (Lesley) Boatright of Round Rock TX; her great granddaughter, Evelyn C. Dawley; her sister, Dorothy Sheerin of Clinton MA. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer J. Boatright of Williamsburg; her parents, William C. and Elizabeth G. Sellar of Manchester ME. Gloria was born on 7, 1935, in a, Maine. She graduated from Cony High school and attended Westbrook in Portland, Maine. graduation in 1955, she became a flight attendant for Capital Airlines. In early 1956, living in Alexandria VA she met Jim, a lieutenant in the U. S. Army. fell in love and were married in a, Maine on 29, 1956. spent their honeymoon on the coast of Maine and, over the years, they would return frequently as it was her favorite place to vacation. Their first year together was spent in England where Jim was stationed. then moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where Jim finished his military obligation. Jims work took them to Colorado and then to Kansas and, in 1961, to Northern Virginia where they would spend the next 34 years raising their family. Gloria treasured her parental responsibilities and participated fully in supporting the childrens activities. She was always available to help with their church and school programs. Gloria was an avid reader and encouraged her children to learn and love to read as she did. In 1995, Gloria and Jim moved to Williamsburg to begin their retirement. In Glorias early retirement years, her greatest joy was being with her grandchildren and was always called Nana. Gloria was a devout Christian and was always a very active participant in every church she belonged to. Her volunteer activities usually involved outreach or congregational care ministries. Her real passion was singing, and was a member of the choir in each church she belonged to. She did a lot of solo work during her younger years as she was gifted with a beautiful soprano voice. Gloria had a very outgoing and engaging personality, a loving heart and endless energy. the two oldest children were off to college, Gloria went back to work. First, she worked as a substitute teacher and then took a full time job with the Department of Defense in the pentagon in public affairs and later in foreign military sales. a number of years, she decided to return to volunteer work. She volunteered in the White House for two presidents, in the headquarters of a presidential reelection committee, for charitable organizations and community associations and for Colonial Williamsburg doing research work for many years. She loved to spend time with family, travel with her husband, socialize with neighbors and friends, participate in community activities, attend Christopher Wren classes, do research on the civil war, grow exotic plants and, of course, read a good book. Friends may visit with the family 28 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at Nelsen , 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on 29 at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Rd, Williamsburg, VA and will be followed by a reception at the church.
