Obituary: Mary Laraine Beck, an eleven year resident has gone to be with the Lord on 27 . She was born on 9, 1940, the only child of Olaf Logan Floyd and Julia Bennett Dixon. Marys younger years were spent in rural Cambridge, Illinois. Her family relocated to Bradenton, Florida when Mary was fifteen years old. In Bradenton she married Robert Edward Lambert, raised two children, Laila Denise and Jeffrey Robert Lambert, was active in the choir at First United Methodist Church of Bradenton, and had various employment opportunities including those of a photographers assistant, a teachers aide, and a medical receptionist. In 1981 she met and married William James (Bill) Beck Jr, a member of the U.S. Navy, and moved to Maryland. Theirs was a match made in Heaven. remained in Maryland, residing in Ellicott City for 19 years, until 2006 when Bill retired from his second career. While in Maryland, Mary was active as a Stephen Minister at Glen Mar United Methodist Church (UMC) in Ellicott City. She was an active family historian, a charter member of the Stark (IL) Genealogical Society, and a member of the Howard (MD) Genealogical Society and the National Genealogical Society. She was also a founding member of the Dream Cruisers PT Cruiser Car Club. In Williamsburg, she was an active member of Wellspring UMC, having participated on the Leadership Development Committee, the choir, and Gratitude, a singing group led by their pastor, visiting senior citizen and nursing homes each week sharing their talent and spirit with the residents. She also enjoyed and morning rides along the Colonial Parkway looking for eagles and reading the newspaper while parked along the James River. She and her husband Bill (William and Mary) participated in college activities, attending William and Mary football and basketball games. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her son Jeffrey. Survivors include her husband, her daughter Laila and son-in-law Darrell Wilkerson, grandsons Adam Charles and Eric James Wilkerson, Adams wife Amber Marie, and great grand-daughter Ava Joy Wilkerson, all of Bradenton, Fl; step-sons Timothy Shawn Beck of Grand Prarie, TX; Steven William Beck of Leominster, MA; and step-daughter Amanda Jean Hebden of Tampa, FL, as well as their children. A celebration of life will be held at Wellspring UMC, 4871 Longhill Road, Williamsburg on 31st, at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to Wellspring UMC, the Wildlife of Virginia, or the Williamsburg Community Foundation for the O'Hare Endowment in support of the Karene OHare Ovarian Cancer Memorial Endowment Fund. Obituary: James Henry Beck, affectionately known to friends and family as Henry, was welcomed into Heaven by his Lord and Savior on 7, 2014. Henry, aged 90, was born in Wilmington, North Carolina on 5, 1924 to the late William Henry Beck and Dola Beck Sawyer. He spent his formative years in Gum Neck, North Carolina and throughout his life he fondly referred to the small town as home. Henry learned the meaning of a hard days work early in life when he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. A World War II veteran, Henry served his country in the Merchant Marines and aboard U.S. Army Transportation vessels in foreign seas. Notably, he served aboard U.S.A.T. Excelsior, which carried troops from England to Normandy for D-Day. A welder by trade, Henry could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He worked as a civil servant for over 30 years and retired from Naval Air Station Norfolk in 1980. Following retirement, Henry enjoyed life to the fullest by traveling throughout the United States and abroad. During this time, he never missed an opportunity to spend time with his growing family. Henry was met in glory by his parents, his beloved brother and best friend, Ottis Edison Beck, his sister-in-law Lena Basnight Beck, his niece Iris Ann Beck Woodcock, and his son-in-law Rev. Benny B. Hampton, Sr. Left to cherish his memory is his Wife of nearly 70 years, Annie Inez Cahoon Beck, along with his children, Rev. James Terry Beck and wife Mary Nell of Norfolk; Sharon Beck Hampton of Chesapeake; and Theresa Beck Lockhart and husband Jesse of Chesapeake. A wonderful Granddaddy, Henry is also survived by 10 adoring grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Other surviving family members include his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many loved nieces and nephews. Above all, Henry was known to family and friends as a true man of God. He was an active member of Hyde Park Free Will Baptist Church for over 30 years. Those who knew him were blessed to witness his example of Gods love. On , 11th, a viewing will be held at 10:00 AM at Rosewood-Kellum located at 601 North Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach. A service to celebrate his life will be held immediately after at 11:00 AM.
