Obituary: Jean Muscatello Beam, 87, of Martinsville, died on 23, 2017, at the home surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born on 5, 1930, in the Snow Creek Community of Franklin , to the late Frederick us Brodie and Essie Martin Brodie. At her mothers death after childbirth, she was lovingly reared by her Mama, Mamie Brodie Hurd and her Daddy Ben, Benjamin Garner Hurd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James (Jim) Russell Muscatello; and her second husband, Arthur E. Beam; her brother, B. Justus Hurd; and her sister, Nina Brodie Motley. attending Franklin High School, Jean moved to Martinsville to work at Lee Telephone as a telephone operator and later as a supervisor. Later she worked at Henry Department of Social Services as an intake worker and Volunteer Coordinator, from which she retired after 27 years of service. She was a long-time member of Broad Street Christian Church, where she served as an Elder, Board Chair, Matthew 25 Director, and Angel Tree Director. She also served the community through Grace Network, Volunteer Emergency Foster , Red Cross, United Way, and other civic organizations. Surviving are her daughter, Susan Muscatello Reeves and husband Dwight of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, (grandsons Joshua, Caleb, Benjamin); son, James (Jay) Muscatello and wife, Linda of Christiansburg, VA, (grandchildren Angela, Rebecca, Anthony, Carie); son, William Meredith Muscatello and Laurel, (granddaughter, Kristen); son, Martin Ellis Muscatello and wife Andrea of Blacksburg, VA, (granddaughters Rachael and Katie). Also surviving are great grandchildren Nora, Silas, Karis and Lillian Pollock; and Conner, Graham, and James Evans; sister-in-law, Katherine Muscatello Seay; numerous nieces and nephews; and caregiver and friend, Sharon Quigg. She was a gracious and beautiful woman who loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her family, her church, and her home with its lovely yard, flowers and birds. She touched many lives with her enthusiasm for life, her gift of leadership, and her encouraging words; teaching by example the importance of being thankful in all things. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 p.m. on , 29, 2017, at Broad Street Christian Church with a funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m., Reverend Mark Parkinson officiating. Burial will follow at the Brodie Family in Snow Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Broad Street Christian Church Van Fund or Matthew 25 Fund. under the direction of Collins-McKee-Stone Services, Martinsville, VA.
