Obituary: Parley Narvin Butler was born on 22, 1928 in Ogden, UT to Parley Arend Butler and Louisa Ardelia Thompson. He passed away peacefully 5, 2014 in Orem, UT at the age of 85. Parley was a man who knew the power of hard work and service, and will forever be honored and loved by all who knew him. Parley was a hero, caring father, and loyal friend. A man whose quick wit and humor could make anyone laugh, and a man whose love for adventure inspired many to always seek the endless joys in this world. Above all, Parley loved God, his family, and his country—serving as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a valued leader and friend in the community, faithfully holding many leadership and teaching positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and serving as president of the Lions Club. He was called as one of the first high councilman to serve in the newly created Independence, MO stake in 1971. A deeply spiritual man, Parley was passionate about family history and archeology—researching and publishing 17 books on those topics in order to share his personal spiritual experiences and historical knowledge with his posterity. He spent his free time traveling to different archeological sites around the country and contributed greatly to ancient Native American history research. Parley graduated from Weber High School in 1946, and then, after his military service, attended Weber to earn a college degree. He and his sweetheart Wilma Johansen were married on 11, 1950 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He started his career at Quaker Oats as a file clerk and worked his way up through the ranks to office manager and controller. In 1973, he became comptroller and office manager of Magic Pan, a Quaker Oats Co. subsidiary in California. He then moved back to Utah to become an assistant GM for Powder River in Provo. Parley was a caring husband and proud father of five children. He and his family lived in several locations during his career—Ogden, UT; Joplin, MO; Marion, OH; Chattanooga, TN; St. Joseph, MO; San Rafael, CA, and moved to Orem in 1974 where they resided for 37 years. Parley is survived by his beloved wife, Wilma Butler; children Susan & Bruce Allen, Curtis & Diane Butler, Paul & Stephanie Butler, Julie & Mark Karr, Mary & Matt Tippetts; his two sisters, Avalyn & Warren Marquardt, Judy & Ted Anderson; his 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren (and counting), along with several nieces and nephews. It is an understatement to say that he will be greatly missed, but we find peace in the joyful knowledge that we will see him again someday. A viewing will be held , 10th from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Walker Sanderson , 646 E. 800 N., Orem, UT. The , 11th viewing will be from 10:30–11:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at the Orem Cascade LDS Chapel, 461 E. Street, Orem, UT. Military burial will follow at Camp Williams.
