Obituary: 8, 1926 - 3, 2015 Jack Lee Bowers passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on 3, 2015 of age related incidents. He was born 8, 1926 in Garfield, Utah to Harry and Eva Bowers. Jack asked his sweetheart, Barbara Louise Brown of SLC, to marry him after only two dates. were married in 1947. Together they raised three sons: Jack Earl Bowers, Steven Lynn Bowers, and Larry Jay Bowers. Jack attended Cyprus High School, proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and he worked as a chemist for Kennecott. Jack was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He happily served as membership clerk and faithfully attended his priesthood quorum meetings each week. Jack enjoyed telling never ending stories about his time in the Navy, his work at Kennecott, or his family that he adored. He could make a friend out of anyone that he met. He loved to work with his hands and created works of wooden art. Jack loved music, met lifelong friends while singing in the barbershop chorus, and could always be found whistling a happy tune. Jack and Barbara are some of the last remaining proud representatives of the Greatest Generation. Without men like Jack, we would never have had the opportunity to grow up in the safe and wonderful world that they provided for us. Jacks greatest joys in life were the moments that he was able to spend with his wife and family. He loved his family unconditionally. We would all be better people if we had a it of Jack in our souls. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Louise Bowers; his three children; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. services will be held on , 7, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at the LDS Chapel located at 4232 West 5015 South, Kearns, Utah. Obituary: Eugene Sanders Bowers 1925 ~ 2009 Eugene Sanders Bowers, 84, husband, father, builder and faithful servant of the Lord passed away 27, 2009 with his sweetheart at his side. He was born 27, 1925 in Salt Lake City, UT, to Frank Bradley and Winifred Sanders Bowers. He attended Emerson grade school, Roosevelt Jr. High, East High School, University of Utah, and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis 1948 where he was on the national championship light weight football team. He served seven years in the Navy in the Pacific Islands and is a veteran of the Korean War. Gene was general manager and owner of Bowers Building and Construction Co. and built several schools, the Army Reserve , Pacific National Life, several banks, Deseret Gym and about 100 LDS churches in the western United States. He was on the Board of Directors of the AGC (Associated General Contractors). Gene met his wife, Gloria Schwantes, in New York City. His sister, Wynne, one of her roommates, was the cupid that brought them together. were married in the Salt Lake Temple Feb. 4, 1952 by Elder Harold B. Lee. He was active in the LDS Church all his life and held many positions in church including two Bishoprics, High Council, Stake YM Superintendent. He honored his priesthood and had a firm testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He leaves a legacy of service and devotion to duty. He was an avid sports fan and participant. Gene enjoyed making and flying model airplanes with his children, photography- developing and printing pictures in his darkroom. Also enjoyed being with family and friends in the Big Cottonwood cabin. He generously gave to employees in need. At Christmas time, he gave turkeys and chocolates to employees and relatives. He had a great sense of humor and was a top-notch emcee at many functions. Gene is survived by his caring and devoted wife, Gloria, children-Matt (Cyndi) Bowers, Mike (Carolyn) Bowers, Lisa (Jim) Nielsen, Denise (Marvin) Rider, Russell (Shari) Bowers, 21 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one sister, Nancy Florian. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Winnifred, brothers Bradley and Richard. services will be held at 12:00 noon on , 2, 2009 at the Garden Park Ward, 1152 Yale Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends may call at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary on , 1, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., and on one hour prior to the services at the church. Obituary: Debra Raylyn Bowers 1953-2011 On the beautiful winter morning of 11, 2011, our sweet Debbie passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born 9,1953, and spent her childhood in Tooele, Utah. On 25, 1971 she married her high school sweetheart and best friend, Steve Bowers. enjoyed almost 40 years of marriage, and welcomed two children into the world. raised their family in Orem, Utah where Debbie was a stay at home mom. Family meant everything to Debbie. She dedicated her whole life to her husband and children. Debbie has a sweet spirit. She adored children and animals, and they were drawn to her as well. She is adored by her two granddaughters. She loved being outdoors, especially in the fall. We will miss our annual drive in the canyon to collect fall leaves, and our picnics in the mountains. Debbie is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She is loved, and will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and brother, who she has deeply missed for many years. We find comfort that they have now been reunited. She is survived by her husband, Steve, children, Steven (Laura) and Pamela, grandchildren, Vanessa and Isabella, sister Cheryl, brother Bob, Good friend, Harry, beloved dog, Cutter, and many other close friends and family members. Obituary: AVA LAMBERT POULSEN/BOWERS, 11, 1916- 21, 2015 Ava Lorene Lambert (Poulsen and Bowers) was born 11, 1916 in House, New Mexico. She was the daughter of James Elmer and Celesta Pearl Lambert. She was the last surviving and middle child of seven siblings Orin, Maggie Johnson, Vernon, Royal, Sue Bywater, and Betty Lucas. She spent her early years in House, NM and Shawnee, OK. She moved to Salt Lake City, Utah about the age of 17 where she worked at Kress Store and Auerbachs Department store. She was married to Mack Larken Poulsen in 1936 until his passing in 1964. During WWII she worked at Remington Arms making ammunition in support of Americas war effort. Ava was very active in the First Baptist Church in Salt Lake and taught many Third graders in School. Following the passing of Mack she worked for the Western Hotel Register and then for the University of Utah. She married Art Bowers in 1985, who subsequently passed in 2003. While she was with Art, Ava was very active in the Radiant Chapter #12, in the Order of Eastern Star. She served as Worthy Matron of that Chapter. Ava died comfortably in her sleep on 21, 2015 of natural causes. Ava is survived by a daughter, Joyce Bristol, husband Don Bristol of Round Lake, IL and Ron Poulsen, wife Lyn of La Quinta, CA along with two grandchildren Christopher Poulsen, Portland, OR and Emily Brinkman, Half Moon Bay, CA and two great grandchildren Avery and Roland Poulsen of Portland, OR. Services will be held at Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South , 28, 2015 at 11:00a.m. |
