Obituary: On 1, 2006 our beloved 95 year old Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Lucille Morgan Babcock passed away from this life. She was born in Fountain Green, Utah May 28, 1911, the sixth child of James Edward and Elinor Cecelia Yorgason Morgan. Growing up in Kuna, Idaho, Lucille learned how to work on the family farm. She attended Happy Valley School in Kuna, then graduated from Nampa High School. a four year hiatus, she entered Brigham Young University with money earned cleaning, and caring for a cousins children. At $1.00 a day, the $100 for tuition seemed a small fortune. Lucille earned a Normal Certificate from Idaho State University in Moscow, Idaho then began teaching in Victor, Idaho. All of her life education meant a great deal to Lucille. Hyrum Babcock courted Lucille through wonderfully witty letters. three years of teaching in Victor, Lucille and Hy became engaged, then were married in the Manti Temple, 25, 1941. Establishing their first home in California where Hy had a teaching job, Lucille was mesmerized by the beauty of the Bay Area. While Hy finished his Masters Degree in Fresno, they had their three children. Hy completed his PhD the family moved to Provo, Utah where Hy accepted a position at BYU and Lucille went back to teaching fourth grade first at Maeser Elementary and finally at Rock Canyon Elementary. Lucille loved to teach Utah History to her fourth grade students. She also shone as an amateur dramatist. Each year she and her students staged an educational production replete with dialogue, costumes, scenery, music, and dancing. In the minds of her children and friends Lucilles greatest achievement was caring for Hy through the long days and nights of his extended years of physical illness. The good friends and neighbors of Pleasant View First Ward along with family members assisted her in this effort. She was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holding many leadership and teaching positions beginning with teaching Primary at age 12. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, husband, all seven of her siblings: Elwood, Laura, Victor, Ernest, Della, Mary and Cecil. She is survived by her children: Dean (Charlene) Babcock, South Jordan; Mary (Gary) Bennett, Logan, Utah; Carol (Tom) Hazel, Houston, Texas; 18 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, and 39 great grandchildren. Special thanks for years of devoted kindness from Karl Davis, Delores and Jim Harris, Joanne and Dean Barnett, Elaine and LaMar Duke, Marie and Veldon Coleman, and Hugh Rhodes. Each of her posterity are grateful for the legacy of faith, love of our Savior and Heavenly Father, patriotism, service and generosity passed on by Grandma Great. We will miss your unfailing example of faith in the power of prayer, dear Mother. May God be with you `til we meet again. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Diabetes Association. Obituary: Andrew Babbel Andrew Babbel, 89, died in her sleep May 23, 2007, at Hearthstone Manor in Spanish Fork, Utah. Born 1918 in La Grande, Oregon to Fullmer (Mary Ethel Bean) Andrew, she was the second of three sisters. She served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in France and Belgium. (She was on the last civilian train out of Paris at the onset of World War II, and was transferred to French-speaking Quebec, Canada for the remainder of her mission.) married Frederick William Babbel on May 4, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple, after graduating with Honors from Brigham Young University in Music with a French Minor. In 1946 her husband accompanied Ezra Taft Benson on a special mission to Europe, leaving her in Salt Lake City with a six-week old baby. In 1952 the family moved to northern Virginia when Fred became Assistant Secretary of Agriculture during the Eisenhower administration under Secretary Benson. moved back to Utah after Fred retired from the Federal Government. During her marriage she and her husband wrote a series of books including Onward and Upward, On Wings of Faith, Lest We Forget (a Genealogical Guide to Washington, D.C.), To Him That Believeth, and Bring Forth Your Light. were popular speakers and traveled extensively talking to youth groups, firesides, and conferences. She composed over 150 songs and was a deep thinker, recording 101 journals of her philosophy. She worked in the Washington, D.C. Temple for 15 years. She is survived by her five children: Bonnie (Roger) Lewis, Martinsburg, WV; Julene (Lisle) Updike, Falls Church, VA; David Frederick (Mary Jane) Babbel, Bryn Mawr, PA; Judy (Douglas) Cloward, Scofield, UT; and Joanne (Dennis) Smith, West Jordan, UT. She also leaves behind 32 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren. is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sisters Virginia (Ernest) Wheeler of Ogden, UT and Arlene Walsh of Akron, OH. services will be held , 4, 2007, at 10 a.m. in the Walker Sanderson , 646 East 800 North, Orem, UT. Obituary: Josephine Jantz Babb 1919 ~ 2011 Josephine Jantz Babb returned home , 19, 2011. With her passing she was able to rejoin her sweetheart of 67 years, G. Rex Babb who preceded her in death last year. Born 25, 1919 on the family farm near Ringwood, Oklahoma to Daniel C. and Mary Johnson Jantz. She married her eternal companion, G. Rex Babb on May 11, 1943. are the parents of five children, 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She served two full time missions with Rex and served in many church callings. Jo dedicated her life to Rex and her family while quietly serving and teaching those around her. Obituary: Colleen Hurst Baadsgaard passed away 31, 2006 at Mountain View Hospital. She was born May 13, 1926 in Logan, Utah to Pearl Petersen and Clyde Hurst Sr. She married Alfred Beck Baadsgaard on 30, 1972 in the Provo Temple. He died in 1997. Colleen received her education in Logan and attended Utah State University. She moved to Springville where she lived until 1972. She was a resident of Lake Shore until her death. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings. She served a two year mission to the eastern states earlier in her life and also a two year stake mission. She and her husband Alfred served an LDS employment mission together. She was employed at the Nebo School District and retired from there. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She considered her greatest blessing to be her husband, Alfred, and their beautiful family. Survivors include nine children: Beverly (Ray) Lewis, Cleo (Don) Cox, Ina Lee (Gerry) Tedrow, Glen (Patty) Baadsgaard, Lynn (LaJeanne) Baadsgaard, Kevin (Jenny) Baadsgaard, Lauri Pratt, Loyd (Betty) Baadsgaard and Steven Hurst Wiser; also a brother, Dr. Clyde F. Hurst. 36 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, her parents, two brothers, Reed M. Hurst and Jerry Hurst, and a daughter-in-law, Rachel Moon Baadsgaard. services will be held , 5 at 11 a.m. in the Lake Shore Church, 5916 South 3200 West, Lake Shore. Viewings will be held evening from 6-8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, and from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Spanish Fork City . The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Hearthstone Manor, the doctors and staff at Mountain View Hospital, all those who participated in Colleens care, and the many friends that visited her. |
