Obituary: Black, Lourine Elizabeth Tennison, 95, passed away in the early morning hours of 9th. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Vanderbilt Pierpont "V. P." Black (2007) Montgomery, grandson Wade Black Norton (1994) Montgomery, parents Thomas and Pauline Tennison, Booneville, MS, and brother Charles Tennison, Starkville, MS.Lourine married V. P. in 1942 and was the consummate preacher's wife. Lourine and VP lived in Mobile for 56 years where, for many of those years, he was the minister for the Plateau Church of Christ. She worked part time as church secretary, taught ladies' classes, entertained in her home and cooked for those in need. She loved to quilt and crocheted beautiful blankets for each new baby in their congregation and for those of relatives and friends. Mrs. Black was a gracious Christian lady who stood by her husband and contributed greatly to his effectiveness as a gospel preacher. She drove him throughout the U.S. while he studied for his gospel meetings and stewardship lectures. The V. P. Black School of Biblical Studies at Faulkner University stands as a tribute to her devotion and faithfulness to him. She is survived by her children: Van Black, Holland, OH, and Becky Black Norton (Ted), Montgomery; grandchildren: Lance Black (Amanda), Mountain Brook, AL, Ted Alan Norton Jr., Jane Norton Sewell (Steve) and Dean Tennison Norton (Sarah) of Montgomery; great grandchildren: Alex and Luke Black, Banks, Mary Vanderbilt and Norton Sewell, and Tennison Norton; sister: Annette Deaton (Bill) Booneville, MS, and brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Shirley Black, Gardendale AL. Obituary: Laura Jean Gautney Black (2/14/75 to 6/23/12) went to be with the Lord late evening after a courageous five-year battle with breast cancer. Laura passed into eternity while in her husbands loving arms. Born in Tuscumbia, Alabama, Laura was raised in a Christian home and became one of Gods true and faithful servants. She graduated from Deshler High School, received B.A. and law degrees from the University of Alabama. In Tuscaloosa, she met and married the love of her life, Bill Black and together they have three children. Through their marriage and partnership, Laura and Bill created and developed a popular childrens product, Baby Face Band. Laura inspired countless lives as she an with endurance the race that was set before [her] fixing [her], eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of [her] faith. She leaves a Christian heritage to her children through her writings and her book. Laura was an active member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church, where she faithfully served in Womens and Childrens ministries. She is survived by her husband, William Thomas Black IV, her three children William Thomas Black V (9), Gracyn Olivia Black (8), and Caroline Reagan Black (4). Also surviving are her parents Russell and Linda Gautney, her brother Timothy Michael Gautney (Martha), her grandmother Olivia Gautney, her in-laws William and Judy Black, sister-in-law Elise Gredvig (Matt), grandmother Lida Willey Kimbrough, aunts, uncles, nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her grandparents r and Ellen Hahn, as well as her grandfathers Larry Gautney and William Thomas Black II. Obituary: Dr. L. Gene Black, age 80, of wood, Alabama went to be with his Lord and Savior at his home on , surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Decatur, Alabama on 10, 1934 and was a 1953 graduate of Decatur High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Samford University, the Master of Arts in Music Education, the Advanced Masters in Secondary Education, and the Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education and Music degrees from the University of Alabama. Dr. Black was Professor of Music and Music Education, and the Dean of the School of Music at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama over a span of 35 years. He was also the conductor of the Samford University A Cappella Choir. Dr. Black held membership in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, The Alabama and National Education Associations, Alabama Music Educators Association, American Choral Directors Association, and the Music Educators National Conference. He was inducted in the inaugural class of the Alabama Music Educators Hall of Fame and has served numerous churches in the Birmingham area as interim or full-time Minister of Music. Dr. Black is known and respected throughout the country as well as abroad as a choral clinician, music educator, and as conductor of the renowned and internationally acclaimed Samford University A Cappella Choir. The choir was his passion and ministry, touching countless lives around the world. His legacy lives on in his ministry tours with the choir from 1970-2011 throughout Japan, China, South Korea, Hawaii, Sweden, Norway, England, Wales, France, Belgium, and Germany, as well as throughout the continental United States. Dr. Black is survived by his wife of 57 years, Faye Hamilton Black, their daughter Gina Clay (Mitchel), and their grandchildren Ethan Blake Standard, Emma Kathryn Standard, and Elijah Hamilton Standard. He is also survived by his brother Joe Black of Decatur, and numerous nieces and nephews.
