Obituary: Byron Lindsay Brown, M.D.

Physician and friend to so many, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on , 23, 2014 after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma.
He was born in Tulsa, OK on 10, 1935 to James Byron and Hazel Kathleen Brown. His father was transferred overseas with Caltex Oil so he lived his young years in Bahrain and Monterrey, Mexico before attending high school in Highclerc, South India. deciding the American University of Beirut (Lebanon) was not for him, he returned to the United States to attend college at the University of Houston. He then moved to Dallas to attend UT Southwestern Medical School. He did his General Surgery Residency at Baylor University Medical and his Plastic Surgery Residency at University of Mississippi Medical in Jackson MS. His Fellowship was completed at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL before returning to Dallas to go into private practice. It was during medical school that he met Robin, his best friend and wife, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.

Byron loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter for decades. In his later years, he loved spending time at his tree farm in Athens. What brought him the most happiness, however, was his career as a physician. He was a compassionate caregiver to his patients, he admired and respected his colleagues and felt blessed by his practice that spanned over 40 years. He served as Chief of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Baylor University Medical for over 28 years, served as a Clinical Associate Professor for the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical and was the Texas Medical Liability Trust Plastic Surgery Representative for the State of Texas. He was so grateful to his loyal staff: his nurse of 32 years, Audrey Shivers and Eva Erwin who "could do anything".

Lovingly known as Doc by his family, he is survived by his wife Robin; his son Lindsay and his wife Cindy; his daughter Lauris, and her husband Jay and his grandchildren, Lindsay and Clark Brown, and Kate and Elizabeth Massa. He is also survived by his sister, Beverly Jauch and her husband, Walter, of Palo Alto, CA.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Byron's life will be held on , 1 at 2:00 pm in Ellis Chapel at Park Cities Baptist Church with a reception immediately following in Ellis Parlor.
