Obituary: Lee Roy Burton was born on 14, 1912 in Nevada, Texas. Lee was the son of Reverend and Mrs. Henry Hailey Burton. He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University with a business administration degree in 1935 and spent most of his life in Oklahoma. During WWII he served 44 months as a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy and in 1944 married Gayle Cook. WWII Lee worked for Steffans Ice Cream as a district manager in Norman, Stillwater, Muskogee, and Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1961 he became City Manager of Guthrie, Oklahoma. While there Lee was President of Rotary International, served on the Board of Trustees for the First Methodist Church, was a Mason and a member of the American Legion. In 1963 he was elected President of the Oklahoma City Managers Association. That same year Oklahoma Governor Henry Bellmon presented Lee with the coveted Civic Improvement Award for his leadership in restoring downtown Guthrie, Oklahomas first capital city. In 1964 he became City Manager of Chickasha, Oklahoma. In 1968 he started working as a consultant and specialist in Community Development Training with Oklahoma State University Department of Vocational and Technical Education in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Lee, upon retirement in 1974, became an avid traveler. During his lifetime he visited over 44 countries and 47 states in the United States. He was employed as Golf Marshall at Kingwood and Deerwood Country Clubs where he continued to improve his golf game. Among his many golfing achievements he made four hole-in-ones. At the age of 79 he won a Gold Medal in golf at the Houston Senior Olympics. Lee lived his long life with a positive and grateful attitude. He was well known among family and friends for his otable quote-ables. Among his favorites were: Do what you like and like what you do, Learn all you can, but do your own thinking and You gotta live it up. Which is exactly what Lee did! Lee was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather as well as an exemplary role model for his family. Lee took joy in all that life had to give him, regardless of how large or small. Lee always said Ive had a wonderful life. Lees family considers him their Hero and a National Treasure. Lee is survived by his daughters, Tina Stanford of Kingwood, Belinda Atay of Istanbul, Turkey, and Marrene Harris of Houston. His grandchildren are: Chris Stanford of Katy, Bryan Stanford of Houston, Meredith Traweek of Alexandria, VA, Meliha Gaia Atay of Istanbul, Turkey, Nuri John Atay of Washington, D.C., Makenzie and Kristin Harris of Houston. He also has seven great-grandchildren, Jessi, Scott and Tyler Stanford of Katy, TX, Stella Stanford of Houston and Thomas Traweek of Alexandria, VA. |

Obituary: Kathleen Burton, 86, of Dallas, TX, passed away on 6, 2014 in Dallas, TX. She was born to the late Carrie and Samuel H. Thomas on 24, 1927 in Tyler, Texas. She graduated from Tyler High School and married Ronald Burton in 1946. Their 67 year marriage took them to Austin, Big Spring, Eastland, Fort Worth for 25 years, and Dallas for 25 years. Kathy was a wonderful wife, mother and friend who was known for her bread-making and for being the neighbor you always wanted. Kathy was active in, and frequently a leader of, the PTA, the Rejebian Book Club of Fort Worth, women's clubs, volunteer groups and her church. She was employed by the Fort Worth Independent School System as a substitute secretary and teacher's aide. She was a past president of the Greater Dallas Newcomers Club and an avid bridge player. She is survived by her husband Ronald, daughter Sydney, sister Ruth Hartley of Alexandria, VA, brother-in-law Royce E. Burton of Nacogdoches, TX, nephew Royce Burton, Jr. of Arlington, VA and niece Susanna Hunter of Redmond, WA. A Service will be held on 11 at 2pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest in Dallas.
