Obituary: Ina Virginia Tharp Binford Burtner passed away on , 29, 2010 in San Antonio. IGiny, as she was known by her family and friends, was born on 13, 1930 in Conroe, Texas. IGiny was a refreshing and compassionate person who was willing to donate her time and energy to just about anyone that asked. IGinys light shown wherever she went and she was loved by many. One of IGinys primary passions was her church, St. Lukes Episcopal Church where she served on The Alter Guild, Daughters of the King, and worked weekly at the churchs Green Door Thrift Shop. IGiny attended Baylor University where she met her first husband, Ben Binford. IGiny and Ben settled in San Antonio and started an insurance agency, BSM Insurance. IGiny served as President of the agency for over 20 years and guided it to become one of the leading insurance agencies in San Antonio. In addition, from 1984-1992, she served on the Board of Directors for Morningside Ministries, two years of which she was the Chairman of the Board. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Independent Insurance Agents of San Antonio from 1990-1992. While her children were in elementary school, IGiny was very active in the Parent Teacher Association PTA and served as President of the Sunset Hills Colby Glass Elementary School PTA for many years. Because of this commitment, she was awarded a rare lifetime membership in the PTA. IGiny was very active in the Floribunda Garden Club. IGiny was also an avid bridge player and loved to play almost any card game. She played a mean game of cribbage. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Benjamin Riley Binford, Sr. and her second husband Fred W. Burtner. IGiny is survived by her two children, Gay Binford Troiani and her husband, Lendon Troiani, Riley Binford and his wife, Carolyn Binford; her sister-in-law, Pollye Tharp Lincoln; her two step children, Ann Burtner Schuller and her husband, Robert Schuller, Keith Burtner, and her six grandchildren, Taylor and Brannon Troiani, Catherine and Ben Binford, and Kate and Will Schuller. We will miss you IGiny, your wonderful sense of humor and your ability to laugh, and the love you showed for all those around you. A day will not pass without us thinking of you. Obituary: Fred W. Burtner passed away quietly early morning, 1, 2002. He was born in Riverside, CA on 28, 1923 and moved to San Antonio as a teenager. He attended Jefferson High School and graduated from Victoria High School in 1942. He briefly attended Texas A&M before entering the Army as a combat infantryman. He served with the 36th Infantry Division in Italy earning the Purple Heart and was ultimately discharged as a First Sergeant. graduating from Texas A&I, he spent most of his professional life as an executive with Chambers of Commerce. He worked with the Kingsville, Cuero, Corpus Christi and Los Angeles Chambers and was chief executive for the Pomona and San Jose, CA Chambers. Returning to San Antonio in 1970 he was President and CEO of its Chamber for the next 12 years. He is credited with winning its independence from the cityÂs financial support and the Chamber becoming a stronger voice in issues affecting business. He was married for over 23 years to IÂGiny Tharp Binford. have four children: Gay Binford Troiani and husband Lende of Wichita KS; Keith Burtner of Dallas; Riley Binford and wife Carolyn of San Rafael, CA; Ann Burtner Schuller and husband Bob of Overland Park, KS. He leaves six grandchildren: Taylor and Brannon Troiani, Catherine and Benjamin Binford, and Kate and Will Schuller. There will be a viewing on , 3 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring. |

Obituary: Joe Cox Burtis, Sr., fondly known as Jose to lifelong friends and family passed away , 17, 2015 at the age of 80. A time of family visitation will be held , 19, 2015 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Bratcher . Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., , 20, 2015 at Bratcher Chapel with Dennis Lemon officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview in Denison. Joe was born 19, 1935 son of Pleasant Word Boots and Mildred Cox Burtis. He graduated from Denison High School in 1953 and spent most of his life in the construction and roofing business. He was owner of Joe Burtis Construction developing Royal Ridge and Brookhaven Estates in Denison. Joe was a 30 year friend of Bill W. and very active in the recovery community and instrumental in founding the Surrender House in Denison. He and Terry resided in the family home at 1015 W. Walker in Denison. Joe enjoyed raising cattle and fishing throughout the years. Joe is survived by his wife Terry of Denison; daughters DAnn (Larry) Ellis of Pottsboro, Dana (Kevin) Farley of Denison, their mother Jeanne Burtis of Denison, Kelly Gobel of Sherman; brother John Austin Burtis and wife Pam of Irving; grandchildren, Emilee and Jarrod Maddox, Larry Ellis Jr., Cole and Lisa Gatlin, Canaan Farley, Chris and Jessica Gatlin, Candace and Jeremy Trotter, Nicole Garza, Kristen Burtis, and Katie Joe Burtis. He was blessed and loved with thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his father and mother; brother Pleasant Word Burtis, and son Joe Cox Burtis, Jr. Pallbearers will be Austin Burtis, Larry Ellis Sr., Kevin Farley, Cole Gatlin, Chris Gatlin, Larry Ellis, Jr., and Canaan Farley.
