Obituary: Mary Elizabeth “Libba” Burkett, 89, passed away on 31, 2015, peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord at Medical City Dallas. She was most recently a resident at Town Village North Dallas. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Darnellia “Dee” Faye Grant of Dallas, Texas, and Linda Kaye Marion of San Antonio, Texas. Also survived by her grandchildren, Keith and Cheryl Farmer of Flower Mound, TX, Kregg and Cyndi Farmer of Milledgeville, IL, and Kristie and Kendall Allen of Austin, TX. Her legacy also lives on in her nine beautiful great-grandchildren, Caleb, Alayna, Micah, Jeanna, Katryna, Arianna, Jonathan, Joshua and Taylor. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Crawford Burkett, parents, Wesley and Euna Mae Brooks, and grandson, Michael Dwayne Brown. She was a longtime member of Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Oak Cliff, TX. In her later years it was hard for her to get to church, but the Lord’s spirit was strong in her heart. Her sweet smile and strong, beautiful spirit will never be forgotten by her loving family. The family is forever grateful for the compassionate and expert care provided to Libba by Patty, Rose and Lucy in her final months. |

Obituary: Services for Lennie Burkett, 85, of Lufkin, will be held at 10:00 a.m. , 8, 2014 in the Gipson Chapel with Harold Hancock and Reagan McClenny officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mrs. Burkett was born 16, 1929 in Waterman, Shelby , Texas and passed away 5, 2014 in Lufkin, Texas. She was the daughter of the late William Frances Barto Bailey and Betty Kathleen Helton Bailey. Mrs. Burkett was one of twelve children. She married Clayton G. Burkett in 1953 and passed away twenty years to the day after her husband passed away on 5, 1994. She was an avid reader and loved hunting and fishing, as well as being an accomplished seamstress. She could sew anything and everything from clothes to drapes. She was a long time member of Timberland Drive Church of Christ. What she did best was serve the Lord and take care of her family. Survivors include children, Dale Burkett and wife, Susie; Debbie Burkett Jones; grandchildren, Cherie L. Burkett and Sondra G. Kibbey; great-grandchildren, Cassie E. Mallon, Callie B. Mallon and Clayton D. Burkett-Gipson; great-great-grandchild, Abel A. Kessler; step-grandchildren, Keather L. Allen and Keath L. Kibbey; step-great-great-grandchild, Kace J. Allen; siblings, Vern Eather Merritt of New Caney; Buna Rachel Addison of and America Ruth Gillis of Alma, AK; sisters-in-law, Dorothy L. Bailey, Patsy A. Bailey, Betty Bailey, Thelma Sue Hinson, Wanda Joy Gibson; brothers-in-law, Bobby Bowden, James Gillis and Acie Burt. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Clayton G. Burkett, siblings, Thomas Green Bailey, James Arthur Bailey, Coy Paul Buck Bailey, Troy D. Bailey, Wanda Edith Burt, Vaudine Owens, Shelby Jean McDonald and Helen Joyce Bowden. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter for vetting of the animals fund, 1901 Hill Street, Lufkin, TX 75904 and Heart to Heart Hospice, 209 Christie Street, Lufkin, TX 75904.
