Obituary: SOUTHLAKE -- Martha Jo Burgess of Southlake passed away peacefully on , 13, 2016. She was 87 years of age. Service: 2 p.m. at Lonesome Dove Baptist Church in Southlake. Interment: Lonesome Dove . Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. at Bluebonnet Hills in Colleyville. Martha was a longtime member of Lonesome Dove Baptist Church and was actively involved in teaching school and Children's Church. She was also a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary Grapevine Chapter, where she served as past president for two terms. For many years she babysat in her home for any and all who needed her help many times for little or no pay at all. Her heart was for children and families in need. Between her church work and home care she touched countless young lives. Martha will be remembered most for sharing her love of the Lord with all those she came in contact with. Martha was preceded in death by her father, Theo Long; mother, Iona Jordan; stepfather, Henry Jordan; brothers, r, Foster and HT "Shorty" Long; son, Robert Stapleton; and grandson, Jason Patterson. Survivors: Her husband of 53 years, Derrell Burgess; children, James Stapleton Sr., Mary Jo Wood and husband, Ben, Shirley Foster, Ronnie Stapleton, Tim Burgess, Robbie Burgess and wife, Jennifer, Karyn Smalley and husband, Jake, Janna Robinson and husband, Bill, Eddie Sanders and wife, Brenda, Beth Anderson and Becky Anderson; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous extended relatives and friends. |

Obituary: Martha Dabbs Burgess, age 82, wife of Benjamin ÂFrank Burgess, went to be with our Lord on 19, 2006. She slipped away peacefully surrounded by her family. Martha, the youngest of four children, grew up in Tupelo, Mississippi along with her two brothers and sister. On her 20th birthday she went on a blind date with a handsome Air Force officer. Upon arriving home she kicked off her heels and announced she met the man she was going to marry. were married ten months later and were best friends and inseparable for 61 years. She accompanied her husband during his many assignments over the years. The three years spent in Germany was one of the highlights of their travels. MarthaÂs passion in life was caring for her family. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her three grandchildren were a joy to her. Martha was an active member of First Baptist Church in San Antonio for more than 20 years and was dearly loved by many. She cherished those in her School Class and volunteered regularly at her church in two different areas; preparing meals for homebound individuals and in clothing donation. Martha was predeceased by her daughter Sylvia Burgess. She is survived by her husband she affectionately called Âmy friend Frank Burgess, her daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Dr. Richard Longoria, Grandchildren, Jennifer Japhet, Jeff Japhet, and Alexa Longoria. She also served as secretary for their TV repair business, Burgess Radio and TV, while raising their 5 children. Her greatest joy was spending time with family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Herman, their infant daughter Marilyn Joyce, and her great grandson, Taylor Harrison. She passed away , 11, 2017 in a Livingston nursing facility. Mrs. Burgess was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed her flowers, sewing, and quilting. She was of the Baptist Faith.
