Obituary: Nina Tarleton Brown, of Lubbock, age 96, passed away on , 25, 2015. She was born to the late John P. and Lennie Leola Tarleton on 23, 1919 in Blanket, Texas. She was a proud resident of the Ropesville, Texas, community and a member of the United Methodist Church since 1948. She married Claude Brown in 1935, together, they raised three daughters. Nina and Claude celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary before his death in 2001. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Maxine Rainwater. She is survived by her daughters, Wanda (J.T.) Drake, of Ropesville, Texas, Deloroes Snookie (George) Holland, of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Jerry, Scott, Joel, Susan, Chad, and Jill; 13 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and many close friends she considered family. Visitation will be , 27, 2015 from 6-8pm at the funeral home. service will be , 28, 2015 at 10AM in the Ropesville United Methodist Church, Ropesville, Texas. Obituary: ARLINGTON -- Nellis Lee "NL" Brown, 74, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away , Jan. 23, 2012, at a Fort Worth Alzheimers center surrounded by his family. He died from complications of Alzheimers disease. Celebration of life: 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, 313 N. St., Arlington. Interment: Dallas-Fort Worth National . Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. at Moore , 1219 N. Davis Drive, Arlington. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in memory of NL Brown by mail or online to the James L. West Alzheimer , 111 Summit Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76012, www.jameslwest.org. A resident of Arlington for 36 years, NL lived life to the fullest. Never one to sit idly and watch the world pass him by, he will be remembered for his quick wit, spirit of adventure and love of family. NL had many interests and passions, most notably motorcycles, flying and golf. There was many a weekend when he and his wife, Ginger, would take off on a short motorcycle trip along the back roads of Texas; NL on the bike and Ginger in the sidecar. His zeal for flying began when he served our country as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, an active airborne infantry division of the United States Army specializing in parachute landings. It was one of his proudest accomplishments. NL owned several planes throughout his lifetime and continued flying until he was in his late 60s. NL was an avid golfer. Once he retired, he could be found at Shady Valley Golf Course almost every day. He was born May 16, 1937, in Lawton, Okla., to Milton and Susie Baker Brown. his mother died when he was 4, his father remarried and NL was raised by his stepmother, Gladys Brown, whom he loved dearly. He grew up in Longview where he met and married the girl next door, Virginia "Ginger" Milam. NL and Ginger were married 40 years and raised six children. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. The family would like to thank all the staff and volunteers at James L. West for their kindness, help and support. Survivors: He is survived by his stepmother; sisters, Ginger Boyd and Debbie Williams; brother, Chuck Brown; children, Chuck Brown and wife, Cindy, David Brown, Sonjia Fields and husband, John, Troy Brown and wife, Dena, Lisa Barnard and husband, Rob, and Chip Brown and wife, Heather; and 18 grandchildren. |

Obituary: Nell Gulder Brown, 87, long-time resident of Farmers Branch/Carrollton, Texas, passed away with her family by her side , 1, 2012. She was born 14, 1924, in Rock Island, Illinois, and grew up in Burbank, California. Nell moved to Texas following her marriage to Charlie Edward Brown, who preceded her in death in 2002. Nell taught 2nd grade from 1967 - 1987 at Central Elementary in the Carrollton/Farmers Branch I.S.D. She was active in the Farmers Branch Women's Club, the Farmers Branch Poetry Society, and various bridge groups. She loved her travels, her garden, and genealogy. Nell was an avid rock hound and bird watcher. In later years, Nell enjoyed simple pleasures of day trips, card games and movies with her daughters. Also, she cherished her beloved cat, Missy. She especially found joy in watching her grandchildren grow into adulthood. Nell is survived by her four daughters: Robin Logan and husband, Randall; Jana Brown; Christa Brown and husband, Jim Hill; and Leslie Brown. Four grandchildren: Amy Logan Smith; Barry Logan; Mandy Logan; and Stacy Brownhill; and one great-granddaughter, Logan Smith. Visitation will be held , 6th, at Rhoton in Carrollton between 6-8 p.m. A Celebration of Life service is scheduled at the Rhoton Chapel on , 7th, at 1:30 p.m., with burial to follow at Hilltop Memorial Park in Carrollton. Nell was a breast cancer survivor, but her favorite charities were the Operation Kindness in Carrollton and the Smile Train. |

Obituary: Nela Laura Thomas Brown was born in Livingston Texas 10th 1949 to R.C. Joe Thomas and Dollie Vestal Thomas. She grew up in Livingston and, after graduating with honors from Livingston H.S. in 1968, went on to the University of Texas at Austin. There she met Michael Mike L. Brown, the love of her life. Nela and Mike were married in 1971, in a simple on-campus wedding. She received her BA from U.T. in 1971 and went on to become the first woman to achieve her federal grade level in the Austin office of the Internal Revenue Service. Nela and Mike moved to Houston in 1974 for Mikes legal career. In 1975, their son, Robert Brown, was born. While working, Nela attended the University of Houston Law , and received her Doctorate of Juris Prudence there in 1977. Nela was the first woman to hold the position of Manager of Research and Analysis for United Energy Resources and was honored by N.O.W. as "Outstanding woman of the year" in 1980. In 1984 she became the first woman to hold a managerial position in the history of Shell Oil. being a tax manager for Shell from 1980-1994, she began working in the environmental law division. She eventually became the head of state governmental relations for Shell in 2000. By the time she retired, Nela was a Vice President at Equiva Oil Services, a Shell joint venture. She was a true trailblazer for women, who constantly encouraged the women around her to work hard and strive for more. On top of her demanding professional life, Nela always made time to help others. She spearheaded a campaign to establish gun-free zone laws around schools. She chaired the Texas Gulf Coast United Fund committee that oversaw use of appropriations. Her love for her son and concern for his learning disabilities drove her to push for change for all children in H.I.S.D. She worked tirelessly to help schools understand the differences and the brilliance behind all children. She received several commendations from the Gulf Coast United Way for her efforts. She tutored children from low-income areas and helped to provide tutors, mentors, and room sponsors from the business world. She worked to mold H.I.S.D's task force focused on A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. and the implementation and understanding of the A.D.A for teachers and principals throughout the district. Nela did all this while coaching little league, soccer, and writing grants for The Boys and Girls Harbor of Texas. Her dream was to see all children blossom and find a path, and not to be dismissed because they were different. the loss of her beloved husband "Mike" in 2010 Nela found a passion true to her heart, the rescue of stray animals in Houston. This was her calling. She was relentless when it came to helping abandoned and forgotten animals in her city. She constantly pushed for regulatory changes at the city level as well. By establishing the group "Frisky Paws Rescue", she was able to make a difference in the lives of countless animals. Nelas animals brought great joy to her life. Nela was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and courageously fought the battle of a lifetime. She never showed the constant pain that she endured from her treatment, and she remained positive for those around her until the very end, a truly amazing feat. Her beloved Michael, and her mother Dollie Vestal Thomas preceded her in death. She is survived by: her son, Robert, father, Joe Thomas, brother, Claud Thomas and his wife Candy, numerous brothers and sisters in law, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Heights on , 15, 2016 at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service.
