She grew up in Coolidge and married Carl A. Brown in Memphis, TN in 1953. eventually moved to Las Vegas, NV where they lived for more than 30 years, operating their own accounting business. Carl passed away in 1983, Margie moved to Amarillo in 1985 where she enjoyed her retirement. She was a member of St. Marys Cathedral. Margie was also a member of the Rebekahs and enjoyed playing dominoes, both 88 and 42. She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her son, Carl A. Brown, II, of Amarillo. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Southwest. |

Obituary: Margery Catledge Brown, 92, died at the home of her daughter, Susan, in Fort Worth, Texas, on , 5, 2013. Services: Visitation will occur on in Louisville from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. at Porter with graveside service to follow at noon at Memorial Park in Louisville. Mrs. Brown was born 9, 1921, in Louisville, Mississippi, to Albert L Catledge and Minnie S. Catledge. She was one of four children and survived her brother and sisters. Mrs. Brown was a graduate of Mississippi State for Women with a degree in Education. She did post-graduate work at Mississippi State University, at the National Geography Institute Program to which she was selected. Prior to beginning her career as an educator, Mrs. Brown served as an Ordnance Inspector of 40mm shells during World War II. She married Edwin Hull Brown in 1944 and they had one daughter, Susan. She began her 33 year teaching career at a county school in Winston and later taught at Louisville High School. She was appointed the first Headmistress of Winston Academy at its inception and remained its Head Teacher for many years. She loved every minute of teaching and her students throughout the years. Mrs. Brown was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Louisville. She remained an ardent sports fan and had many years of tennis fun with her sister, Tut, and niece, Pam, around the state. In her later years she enjoyed sports on television and her little dog, Rascal. She leaves her daughter, Susan Brown Bulla, of Fort Worth, Texas, two nieces, Pamela Ann Kirk and her husband Ben, and Marsha Fulcher and her husband, Jerry, four nephews, Michael Craig Hardwick and his wife Deborah Ryals Hardwick; Richard Raynor Thompson, Albert Woodard Thompson, and Martin Davis Thompson, and many grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Albert Leonidas Catledge, Jr., and two sisters: Mary Frances Catledge Thompson and Ann Catledge Hardwick and nephew, Dennis Flynn Catledge. Also survived by special friends in Texas, a second daughter Jeanne Braniff Baker - her sweet pea; her friends Linde Kosch Hix, Lela Tomicello and Cristina Perez. |

Obituary: Margarette Zievert Brown was born 28, 1932 in Fort Bend , Texas to Chester and Mary Zievert. She passed away 6, 2005 as a result of AlzheimerÂs disease. Margarette and Dixon traveled extensively throughout the world, especially her favorite Scotland, making many friends along the way. She was a volunteer at Coker Methodist Church for many years, worked at Howard Elementary for 14 years teaching Vietnamese students the English language on a one on one basis. She was active in various Hollywood Park organizations, especially the Volunteer Fire Department. For the past 23 years, she has been very active with the Alzafar Shrine Highlanders Bag Pipe Band. Margarette is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dixon O. Brown; two children, daughter, Cindy, husband Jay Miller of Dallas, TX; son, Craig and wife, Darla Brown; two grandchildren, Davis and Hannah Brown of Rockport, TX; and countless friends and family. Honorary Pallbearers will be the entire Alzafar Bag Pipe Band. She will be cremated and her ashes scattered in a private family service on the land she loved in Bergheim. Obituary: Margarete Johanna Brown went home at the age of 93 on 3, 2016. She lived in Kempner, Texas for most of her life. She was born in Germany on 28, 1923 and was raised in an orphanage during WWII, having never known her parents. Mrs. Essex took her under her wing when she left the orphanage, giving her a place to live and a job at her restaurant. This restaurant was where she met the love of her life, Bobby Joe Brown (Poppa), and they married in Germany on 6, 1956. She is survived by daughter, Betty Jo McGuffey and grandchildren Daniel and Douglas McGuffey, and son Michael J. Brown and wife Cindy, and granddaughter Jordan M. Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Brown and grandson Joshua Michael Brown. Margarete was a lifetime member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary, lovingly known to all as Momma Brown. She was famous for her cheesecakes, cookies and lollipops that she shared with love to everyone. She loved helping out at the Bingo Hall and crocheting afghan blankets for everyone. Her smile was a treasure to all who encountered it and is embedded in our hearts forever.
