Obituary: Michael Edward Broeker, age 71, of Dallas, passed away on , 15, 2016. He was born on 26, 1945, in Burlington, Iowa, to the late Frederick and Mable Broeker. In his early years, Michael enjoyed sports and music in Winfield - Mt. Union High School, where he played on the baseball team and played the cornet in the marching band, sang in the choir and barber-shop quartet. Michael did costume hay-baling with his brothers. He started Future Farmers of America in high school and continued until he retired. More than any activity he participated in, Michael will be remembered for being the ultimate gentle man.always respectful of others, kind, caring, compassionate, gracious, charitable, soft-hearted and generous to all with his time and love. high school, Mike joined the United States Air Force and served his country for 8 ½ years, in Okinawa, Philippines and Vietnam, as a Tech Sergeant, from 1963-1972. He loved the brotherhood of the Air Force. He felt that nothing could compare to the comradery of the men he served with. Mike would have made it a career but Cheryl and Lisa were at home and they were his first priority. So home he went. Mike came to faith when he met Cheryl. She loved him and told him the man she married needed to be baptized, confirmed, and a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He agreed to all of the above and did so. Then he received orders to go to Okinawa, which also meant several trips into Vietnam. Cheryl then asked Mike to become engaged, with the promise of their wedding to happen on his return from Okinawa. married on a wonderful, hot day, 24, 1967 at 2:00 p.m., in Ascension Lutheran Church, Birmingham, Michigan. Mike served as an elder, here in Texas, where he got to work closely with the Senior Pastor, Stephen Wagner, and he so enjoyed caring and sharing with Pastor. He delivered communion in church and on home visits, and also helped whenever or wherever needed. He turned out to be a wonderful evangelist and warrior for his Savior, Jesus Christ. Michael was super with cars, tractors, and grown-ups; he was on a learning curve when it came to his babies. He eventually grew into become a great father and one terrific grandfather. The first tractor Mike ever drove was on the family farm in Iowa at the age of five. The first tractor company Mike ever worked for was International Harvester. He was employed at a company store for several years, then also worked for the International Harvester company. Mike had several positions there, some of which were advancements and created just for Mike and his talents. one long year of hard work with International Harvester, they rewarded Mike and Cheryl, with several other International Harvester employees, their dealers and wives, with a wonderful trip to Hawaii. During that trip, Mike had been offered a job with a new small firm named Kubota. It was a Japanese firm and he had an interview before he left for Hawaii, and promised to give Kubota an answer when they returned home. Mike and Cheryl discussed this decision and Mike felt bad about leaving International Harvester, but he was very excited to get in on the ground floor with this relatively new to the U.S.A. company. So he went into Kubota full speed ahead first in Columbus, Ohio and then transferred to Dallas, Texas as Division Manager. Mike was happily employed with Kubota for 32 years. More than anything, Mike enjoyed being on a team where everyone was working together to accomplish their goal, which is why he cherished his time in the United States Air Force and working for Kubota. Michael is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Gwynne Broeker; daughter, Lisa Gwynne Broeker; son, Mark Alan Broeker; grandchildren, Audrey Grace Helcl, Caden Andrew Broeker, Kyli Renee Phillips, and Everly Raine Broeker; brothers, David (Pat) Broeker and Tony (Flo) Broeker; and sister, Deanna Vensland. A funeral service will be held on , 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 4000 Midway, Carrollton, TX 75007, with a visitation from 10-11am prior to the service in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758541, Topeka, KS 66675 or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 4000 Midway, Carrollton, TX 75007. |

Obituary: Hallie Rose Brody passed away, , 11, 2015, at home with her family, Jerry, Abby and Ben Brody, in Georgetown, Texas. She died from complications of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a genetic connective tissue disorder with few treatments and no cure. Hallie was born 23 years ago in Santa Rosa, California to Katie and Eric, two young people who had chosen Jerry and Abby Brody to be Hallies parents. Hallie was full of life, joy and happiness, right at the very beginning. The entrustment ceremony where Eric and Katie symbolically gave Hallie to the Brody family was full of love, light and joy. Hallies years in California and then in Alfred, NY were incredibly happy ones. With an infectious smile, a brilliant, creative mind, and a kind and generous heart, young Hallie made friends instantly everywhere she went. She was the leader of the pack when it came to imaginative play in her big backyard—the 5 acre old growth forest behind her home. As a little girl, shed also be the one comforting others who had fallen or who were ill. Hallie moved with her family to Georgetown, TX in , 2004. It was then that symptoms of her genetic disorder began to overshadow her life. She was able to finish Liberty Hill high school in 2009, and attended both Austin Community and Baylor University for a few months. Sudden seizures that affected her memory forced her to leave college, and her health declined steadily after that. Eventually home and wheelchair-bound, unable to eat or drink, and in never-ending pain, Hallie continued to give hope and support to thousands of people with chronic illnesses via her Facebook page, Hope for Hallie Rose. Over 2000 people were part of her online community and followed her story daily. She spent time every night Skyping with people around the world who had similar chronic illnesses and needed encouragement, a smile, or a laugh. She would talk about helping the little zebras, those newly diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, with gastroparesis, with POTs and dysautonomia, and teaching them everything she knew about the horrible disease that would claim her life. Hallie Rose had a lot to complain about, but she almost never complained about her own condition. Her pain was excruciating, constant and would cause many other young people with EDS to take their lives. Hallie was incredibly brave to endure so much. She had many major surgeries, cross country trips to see specialists, trips to emergency rooms and trials of new medications that inevitably failed her. Even worse, there were many doctors who were not familiar with EDS, and would not believe she was really ill. However, there were many doctors, nurses, friends and strangers who came to Hallies and the familys aid when they needed help, and the Brody family is deeply grateful to all of them. Despite her terrible illness, Hallie brought so much joy and love to her family. Shed find a way to laugh and smile through almost every ordeal. She had an eye for fashion, and always looked spectacular, at home or in the hospital, wearing colorful scarves and hair bows and jewelry…even when the IV tubes, oxygen cannula, stomach tubes and urinary catheter got in the way. At home, she always wanted to be part of the action, and would volunteer to do whatever she could, even when exhausted and wheelchair-bound. She was the first to say Ill go with you! when an outing was afoot. Even if it was just errands, she wanted to be with her family, out in the world at every opportunity. She loved life with a passion and never lost hope for a cure. Hallie and her Daddy were incredibly close. The love they shared was deep and enduring. had their first Daddy-Daughter dates when Hallie was in elementary school, and they continued on her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas. Jerry and Hallie shopped together, went skiing together, went to campus events together, and spent many hours just talking together. Another big hero in Hallies life was Matthew Moses. Matt and Hallie met years ago in college, and became very close friends. Even as illness slowly destroyed her ability to function, Matt remained by her side. He became her caretaker night and day, usually staying up most of the night to make sure she had taken her medications and that she was safe in bed. He literally saved her life, and gave her a reason to live. Matt was Hallies hero, and Hallies family will forever be grateful to him. Hallie would not want her family and friends to remember her by her illness, but by her joyous spirit, her insistence on keeping her hopes and dreams alive, her refusal to give in to despair, and her generosity in loving and inspiring others. She never wanted to let her body dictate who she was. She inspired her family and everyone she met to have hope, stay strong, and live life, whenever you can, as much as you can, and remember the joy that life can bring. In lieu of flowers, Hallies family requests memorial donations to the Ehlers-Danlos National Foundation, ednf.org. services will be held on , 15, 2015 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Ramsey with a reception to follow. You are invited to share a message or memory in our memorial guestbook at www.Ramsey .com . |
