Obituary: Irving Braslau, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on May 2, 2015. He was 85 years old. Irving was born in Yorktown, Texas, on 1, 1929. He was the owner of Braslaus Furniture and worked there most of his life, prior to becoming ill over two years ago. With his unique sense of humor, he used to say that he secretly wanted to be a joke writer. Irving had an extraordinary knowledge of the stock market and a knack for buying the right stocks. If you named almost any stock, he could quickly give you the ticker symbols off the top of his head, and if anyone asked for a recommendation, he would always provide several good tips. serving in the army, Irving met and married his one and only true love, Marilyn Rose Goodman, in 1957. Within ten years they had four children who were the absolute pride and joy of his life. He was very generous with them in every way, and was always there for them when they needed him. In fact, Irving was known for his generosity - to everyone. Soft-spoken and kind, he never showed up to a doctors appointment without candy for the nurses and a good book for the doctor. In his healthier days, he loved to hunt and fish, and enjoyed the simple pleasures of reading or going to the movies. He was a long-time member of B ai Israel Synagogue. Irving is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn Braslau; his beloved firstborn son, Tracy Mitchell Braslau; and his parents, Morris and Annie Braslau. He is survived by his three children, Pamela Zane (Randall), Robin Davis (Jordan), Blake Braslau (Monica); eight grandchildren, Andrea Zane Feinman (Blake), Stacy Zane, Todd Davis (Mali), Amy Davis, Eric Davis, Grant Braslau, Caroline Braslau, Natalie Braslau; and two great-grandsons, Zane Phillip Feinman, and Max Nathan Davis. A Graveside Service will be held on , May 5, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Seaside Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank his primary doctor, Burcham Fuqua, his dentist, Dr. Fred Philips, his many outstanding nurses, therapists, and caregivers - and especially Eva Tamez, who cared for Irving with unwavering compassion, devotion, and love. Obituary: Virgil Ray Pete Brasher passed away peacefully on , 12, 2014. Pete was born on 23, 1923 and lived a beautiful and honorable life of 91 years. Those that knew him will remember him as a man of honor and integrity - a gentleman like no other. His kind spirit left a mark everywhere he went. He was loved by many and in turn, he gave love unconditionally to those who were connected to him through his life journey. He left a place better because he had been there. Pete was a true warrior and never gave up easily on anything. He led by example and served others with great passion. Pete was born to James Wyatt Brasher and Maude Hollingsworth in Mosheim, Texas. His and his siblings being raised on a farm knew how to handle hard work. He attended school in Hurst Springs, and then was Valedictorian of Turnersville High School in 1940. Pete was involved in sports during his school years. He ran track, played football, basketball, and baseball playing pitcher and first base. high school, he received a scholarship to attend Texas Tech University. He began his college career taking engineering courses and following Pearl Harbor, decided to enroll in an elective course called Civilian Pilot Training. That decision was life changing. He loved flying and knew he was destined to be in a cockpit. He chose to enroll in the Naval Aviation Cadet Program and trained at the University of Georgia for V-5, AVCAD Training and at various bases in Texas. Graduating 1, 1943 as an Ensign and Naval Aviator he served as a fighter pilot on several air craft carriers in the Atlantic and Pacific areas of combat. On 9, 1943 he married his Georgia Peach, Jeanne Lorelle Richardson. were married 60 years and truly demonstrated how two become one. There were many highlights to Petes Naval career. He was instrumental in the capturing of the German U-Boat 505, and served aboard the U.S.S. Hancock with Captain Gene Ciernan. Additionally, he had the privilege of giving the final flight check to his Flight officer of Squadron VF-42, Admiral Alan Shepard. Pete maintained a friendship with Alan for many years. Recently, it was such a thrill for him to travel on the Lone Star Honor Flight to see the WWII monument and be honored for his service in the military. Pete moved his family to Texas upon retirement as a Naval Commander in Monterey, California. Upon arrival, he found that Conroe was an amazingly friendly community. Asked to join the Conroe Noon Lions Club, he started what would become a long and devoted association with that organization for close to fifty years. Nothing got in the way of his treasured meetings and he relished the napkin throwing crowds cheers of Pete, Pete, Pete. He was a past President, but his favorite role was Program Chairman for Life. Additionally, he was honored as a Lifetime Member, the Distinguished Achievement Award and the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. Repairing fences and sprucing up the Crippled Childrens Camp in Kerrville was a passion for him. Mostly, he just loved being with his fellow Lions, sponsoring future Lions and participating in anything the organization supported. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus, a Volunteer at Conroe Regional Medical for 15 years, and played golf avidly at Texas National Golf Club. He owned a branch of American National Insurance and was owner of Capitol Realty. He and Jeanne were instrumental in refurbishing the Crighton Theater and their love for the arts is memorialized in the naming of the Owen Theater auditorium. He was also known as Grandpa to the Conroe High School Golden Girls when his daughter was their director. Pete served and loved his country with great dignity. He served and loved his community, his friends and his beloved Lions Club with passion. He made others smile with his jokes and puns. He could banter with the best. He brought joy to many but most of all, he was the rock and patriarch of an adoring family that will miss him dearly. Preceeded in death by his wife, Jeanne, Pete is survived by his son, Michael R. Brasher and wife, Jan of The Woodlands,TX; his daughter, Danielle Rapp and husband Jim of The Woodlands, TX; Grandchildren Kimberly Boudreaux of Slidell, La; Jim Brasher and wife, Kristen of Pacific Palisades, CA; Tyler Rapp of The Woodlands, TX. Great grandchildren, Mitchell and Lauryn Boudreaux of Slidell, LA and Amelia Brasher of Pacific Palisades, CA. His guardian angel dachshund Ginger will miss him dearly. Pallbearers will be Jim Brasher, Jim Rapp, Mitchell Boudreaux, Ed Rapp, Joe Sentmanat and Rigby Owen, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Oakey, Jim Andrews, Guy Nightengale, Sid Alexander and Conroe Noon Lions Club. In lieu of flowers, we, his family ask that donations would be made to The Texas Lions Camp. Please contact the Lions Club Office at (936) 760-1666 to arrange a donation.
