Obituary: Virginia Lee Branscum passed away peacefully on 10th in Murphy, Texas. She was 92 years old. Virginia Branscum was born on 27, 1923, to May and Charles Miksch in Clovis, New Mexico, where she grew up and attended Clovis High School. high school, Virginia attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico, receiving her Associates of Arts degree. While at ENMU, she met Arvel Branscum; they were married on 23, 1943 and were happily married for 56 years. During World War II, Virginia worked for the Army and Air Force on a traveling payroll auditing team. WWII, Virginia continued her education at the University of Texas in Austin and received both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa because of her outstanding academic achievement. She returned to EMNU and worked as a secretary, a teacher, and the Assistant Registrar over a period of fifteen years. She also taught at Rogers, Floyd, and Portales - all in eastern New Mexico. She taught bookkeeping, general business, and vocational office education. Virginia belonged to many organizations including AAUW, NEA, NEA-NM, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Portales Womens Club. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church for many years. Virginia had many interests: she was skilled at needlecrafts, loved baseball, read voraciously, and traveled whenever possible. Virginia is survived by: daughter Penny Branscum Doak and her husband Clint of Roberts, Montana; Cindy Lou Berry and her husband Kelly of Murphy, Texas; grandchildren Chris Hale, Dustin Hale, Ryan Berry, Nicole Brekke, and Dani Doak-Hanson; great-grandchildren Michaela Hunter and Jordyn Doak. Obituary: NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Rachel Arrant Branscum, 90, went to be with the Lord on , Sept. 29, 2013, in North Richland Hills. : 10 a.m. at Spring Valley Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Interment: 2:30 p.m. in Roselawn Memorial Park in Mineola. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. at Shannon Rufe Snow Chapel. Rachel was born 25, 1923, in Talpa to D.R. "Bud" and Mattie Caroline Arrant. She was the daughter of a traveling evangelist who routinely stopped his homemade mobile home and preached on street corners of the many towns and cities they visited. Rachel was a longtime school teacher and a gospel singer with different groups throughout her life. She also worked as a receptionist at multiple doctors' offices and was a supervisor for Shaklee Products for many years. Rachel married her loving husband, Donal Ray Branscum, on Sept. 29, 1942. The family lived all over Texas, including Arlington and Tyler. lived in Mineola for many years until Donal's passing in 1995. Survivors: Sons, Daniel E. Branscum and Gary Wayne Branscum; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. |

Obituary: Harvie would like you to know that his work here is done. Never one to miss an appointment, he has left for one from which he will not return. He began his life in Dallas, Texas, 93 years ago and was an adventurer from the start. He began by building model boats and holding lengthy conversations. He honed his skills through Horace Mann, Duke University and Yale Law School. He served as a Lieutenant in the Navy during WWII where his commanding officer refused to allow him to leave the ship for 4 years, fearing he would accept a different challenge. Harvie transitioned to sailing and lawyering by moving to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he fought the waves and the IRS with equal enthusiasm. He was a great family man, having met and married the belle of Dallas, Mary Josephine Goodearle, in 1950. Along with their children, they traveled, sailed, hunted and fished. He will be remembered for sand in the hotdogs at the beach and lobster in the Bahamas. He was frequently found roaming the decks of the Josephine in the middle of the night, checking the anchor lines while moored Lydia Ann Channel. When wearing his attorney hat, he worked to improve the tax code by serving on the Commissioners Advisory Group for the IRS and Chairman of the Tax Section of the American Bar Association. He also belonged to the American of Tax Counsel, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, State Bar of Texas Tax Section, and other things tax related. At the time of his last appointment, he served of counsel to Branscomb PC. Harvie cared about his community, serving as a trustee for the Art Museum Endowment Fund, Texas A&M Corpus Christi Foundation, the Warren Foundation and the Corpus Christi Industrial Park. One of his proudest accomplishments was the establishment of the Una Chapman Cox Foundation which is dedicated to a strong, professional American Foreign Service. But his true love, besides the belle Mary Josephine, was sailing. Along with a group of stalwarts, he helped expand the Corpus Christi Yacht Club in 1952 when it was a floating Clubhouse docked at the end of the Lawrence Street T Head. He was member #13. As a sailor, he raced across the Gulf of Mexico, lost his mast and sails once, but never his way as he was the navigator, cruised the Bahamas, the Pacific North West, the Intra Coastal Waterway. Harvie was predeceased by his parents, Harvie and Margaret Branscomb of Nashville, TN. He is survived by his wife, Mary Josephine, and his children and their families, Bennett Hill and wife Katharine Schultz Branscomb and daughter Margaret Josephine of Sonoma, CA, Margo and daughters Rachael Louise and Isabella May of Centennial, CO and Richard Lee and children Richard Massey, Jack Henry, Kate Prudence, and Mary Piper of Austin, TX, and brothers Benjamin Vaughan Branscomb of Birmingham, AL and Lewis McAdory Branscomb and wife Constance Mullen of La Joya, CA, cousins Genevieve Vaughan of Rome, Italy, Ben F. Vaughan, III and wife Daphne, and their families. The family wishes to express their utmost gratitude to the caregivers, Julia McKinney, Jina Garcia, Irene McCarley, and Noemi Guzman for their constant care and attention to Harvie. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on , 16, 2015, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 700 S. Upper Broadway, Corpus Christi, TX 78401 with a reception to follow at the church. |
