Obituary: Ruth McLean Bowman Bowers died , 19, 2013. She was born in 1920 and spent her childhood in Beaumont, later moving to San Antonio with her parents, Verna and Marrs McLean in the early 1930s. She graduated from St. Marys Hall in San Antonio and Finch in New York City. Throughout her life she was involved in community, philanthropy, social and political affairs, serving on many boards including as Regent of the Texas Womans University in Denton, Trinity University, St. Marys Hall, Sunshine Cottage, San Antonio Symphony, Witte Museum, Volunteer Service Bureau, Planned Parenthood, The National Board of the Abortion Rights Action League as well as the Texas State Board. She was appointed to the Governors Commission on Women, was founder and District Commissioner of the San Antonio Pony Club, and was on the Board of the Texas Hunter & Jumper Association. Among the honors she received: Trustee Emeritus of St. Marys Hall and recipient of the St. Marys Hall 1986 Distinguished Alumnae Award. The Texas Womens Political Caucus gave her their Woman of the Year Award for 1990, and she received the Ginny Whitehill Grass Roots Activism award for 1992. Other awards she received include the Non-Profit Resource s Spirit of Philanthropy Award 2001, the Humanitarian Award from the National Jewish Medical and Research 2002, the St. Marys Hall Founders Day Award 2003, Our Reach for the Stars Star from Network Power of Texas 2005, Honorary Board of Directors for the Alamo Women and Family Information Network 2005. In 2006 Ruth received Outstanding Philanthropist from the Association of Fundraising Professionals and in 2007 the San Antonio Womens Chamber of Commerce Voice and Vision Award as well as San Antonio Womens Hall of Fame Award for Civic Leadership (Philanthropist and Womens Advocate). UTSA Womens Studies Institute made her their 2008 Womens Advocate of the Year. Her generous philanthropy includes the founding gift to the Womens Legacy Initiative of the United Way, the endowments of the Ruth McLean Bowman Bowers Chair for Breast Cancer Research and Treatment at UTHSC, the Cyclotron wing of the Research Imaging at UTHSC which is named in her honor and the Ruth McLean Bowman Bowers Laboratory for the advancement of Neuroscience Research. She was the Honorary Chair of the Capital Campaign for the Cancer Therapy and Research , Trinity Universitys Womens Studies Resource and Womens History Months Visiting Professor are also among her named gifts. The Baylor of Medicine Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has a Professorship in her name and she has funded the Excellence in Research Award to be given to the top researchers each year. Ruth has funded development of a promising drug from For Good (FGH) BioTech, Inc. that will control obesity and add other health benefits. Others who have benefited from her support include the Family Violence Prevention Service, the Battered Womens Shelter, Girls Inc., and the Childrens Shelter. She financed and supported the Roe vs. Wade case that went before the United States Supreme Court. She also supported the Girl Scouts, the Witte Museum, the McNay Art Museum, the Briscoe Western Art Museum, Our House, the Santa Rosa Childrens Hospital and the Texas Nature Conservancy. She was devoted to her Almamater, Saint Marys Hall and funded their Early Child , Library Complex and Science Building. She was a member of the Assembly, The Battle of Flowers Association, The Charity Ball Association, San Antonio Junior League, San Antonio Womens Forum, The San Antonio 100, National Organization for Women, San Antonio Womens Political Caucus and the Veteran Feminists of America. She was also a supporter of the National Association for Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Ruths primary interest was always in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was never a conformist and since a child she was consumed by a desire to fight discrimination in any form and thus devoted her life to equal opportunity for all. Not only was she a world traveler and patron of the Arts and Education, but she was an outdoorsman, who loved to ride her horses, swim in the rivers and hunt. Ruth owned ranches in South Texas, the Hill Country and the Trans Pecos areas as well as a lychee farm in Hawaii. The familys deepest gratitude goes to her loving caregivers: Socorro Fontaine, Maria and Carlos Gomez, Gwen Marshall, Sonia Rivera, Tangie Carroll and Laura Mendez. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack T. Bowman and William O. Bowers. Ruth Bowers is survived by her children, Marrs McLean Bowman and his wife, Marianne, Bonnie Bowman Korbell and her husband, John, Ruth Bowman Russell and John Russell, Jr., Beth Bowman Harper and her husband, Michael, Margaret Bowman McMahon and her husband, James, and Barbara Bowman. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions can be sent to Saint Marys Hall, Planned Parenthood of San Antonio or the Cancer Therapy and Research at UTHSC. A Celebration of her Life will be held for close friends and family.

Obituary: Robert James Bowers, age 61, passed away at home in Longview on , 26th after a valiant and courageous 18 month battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years and high school sweetheart Christy Andresen Bowers; their sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren Ryan James and Ashley Impson Bowers and five year old Aria Eden Bowers of Longview, Aaron John and Marquise Mattox Bowers, nine year old Veronica Jolie Bowers and six year old Korbin Alexander Bowers of Colorado springs, Colorado; mother and stepfather Barbara Natoli Mutchler and Miles Mutchler of Mineola; brother Michael Charles Bowers who resides in Belize; mother-in-law Helen Andresen of Longview and an extended family that includes aunt and uncle Dr. Robert and Jessie Natoli, cousins Lauren Natoli Kopp and Lisa Natoli Burke, all of whom helped care for him during his final days.
He also leaves behind countless friends and co-workers whose lives he repeatedly touched with humor and compassion. He is preceded in death by his father, Bill James Bowers; father-in-law Richard John Andresen; grandparents Ezra and Annie Bowers, and J. Robert and Grace Natoli.
Robert was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on 27, 1956. He moved to Richardson, Texas in 1967. a gifted athlete, Robert played football and basketball throughout his youth. He attended Texas Tech University prior to his marriage to Christy in 1976 and spent 23 years in the Dallas area as a self-employed lineman for Southwestern Bell before moving with his family to Longview in 1993. Robert was an engaging people person who put his skills to work at Big Five Tire and Auto and Lowe's before joining Reliable Management in 2014, where hi loved going to work every day and the people he worked with were like family. He leaves behind many co-workers who will miss his quick wit, positive outlook, hearty laugh, and contagious smile.
Robert's family wishes to thank his Longview doctors: Dr. Robert Cary, Dr. Gregory Edwards, and Dr. Rama Koya and the wonderful staff at Texas Oncology-Longview Cancer ; Drs. Ganesh Raj and Maynur Narayan and the extended care team at U.T. Southwestern Medical 's William P. Clements Hospital in Dallas; the nurses and staff at Longview regional Hospital and, with most heartfelt appreciation , his caregivers from Lifecare Hospice in Longview.
A celebration of Robert's life will be held from family and friends on , 26th in Longview; information can be obtained by contacting a family member. Richard Bowers, passed away on 14, 2015 he was born 13, 1945 to Paul and Janie Bowers of Pampa, Texas. He is survived by his wife Gwen of 38 years, daughter Debi Opiela and her husband Dennis with daughters Amanda and her sons Evan and Mason, Kara and her daughter Chloe, Haley, and sons Devin and Josh from Crosby, Texas; son Paul and his wife Sondra and sons Justin and Ryan of Saint Johns, Florida; daughter Kim Wimmer and her husband Calvin and sons Brody and Colton of Los Angeles, California; son Brian Harris of Baytown, Texas; son Noel and his wife Karina of Houston, Texas; brother J. P. his wife Pat, son Chris and daughter Sharon of Houston, Texas; brother Charles and his wife Janyth and sons Chandler, Chance, and Collin of Pampa, Texas; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Richard was born and raised on the farm near Pampa, Texas. He is a 1963 graduate of Pampa High School where he was also the National Secretary and American Star Farmer award winner for the Future Farmers of America. He attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas graduating in 1968, and then returned to farming and ranching in the Pampa, Texas area. While farming and ranching in 1978 he also began working for the USDA Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. In 1979 he was hired as the general manager for the Panhandle Groundwater Conservation District (GCD) in White Deer, Texas where he worked for eight years. He then moved to Dumas, Texas in 1987 to be the general manager for the North Plains GCD where he managed and lived for 20 years. In 2007 Richard and Gwen moved to Burnet, Texas where he assumed the general manager position for the Central Texas GCD. In of 2011 he officially retired with over 32 years of management for the Texas Groundwater Conservation Districts. While enjoying retirement in 2014 a district in Springtown, Texas came calling for Richard and his many years of experience. So for five months he commuted to Springtown, enjoying every minute and opportunity to share his knowledge and experience with the people of the Upper Trinity GCD.
Richards is well known and respected for his knowledge of Texas groundwater and was the very first president of the Texas Alliance Of Ground Water Districts from 1988 to 1990, and again 2003-2005. He has worked with the Legislature and many other districts throughout the state for many years, he has been a Director of the Texas Water Conservation Association since 1982 and president 1992-1993, a Director of the National Ground Water Management Districts Associations and president in 1988 and 2001, and a member of the Tarleton State University Hydrology Advisory Council since 1989.
Richard had a great love and respect for the most natural resource in the state, but he will be most remembered as a family man of faith, one who loves his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, never having a loss of words, serving his community and fellow man, and always looking forward to meeting you.
Dad you will always be loved and missed and your legacy will live to eternity.
In lieu of flowers, and on behalf of Richard, we ask that you quit wasting your water and turn it off, then go hug your kids.
Visitation will be , 18, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. Rosary will follow at 7:00. At Clements-Wilcox . services will be on , 19, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at the St. Johns Catholic Church in Marble Falls, Texas. There will be another service for Richard on , 20, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Pampa, Texas burial to follow at Fairview in Pampa, Texas.

Obituary: Phama Lee (McCarley) Bowers, 100, passed from this mortal life on 3-11-2011 at Jacinto City care in Texas. She was born on 6, 1910 in San Angelo, Texas to Robert and Bernice McCarley. A long time resident of Baytown, Phama was a full time homemaker. She was an award winning seamstress, fantastic cook, and avid garage sale shopper. Her love of First Presbyterian Church led her to fill numerous positions during her life, with the most precious being teaching the love of God to children. Phama loved her family and never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or special event. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and her decor and dinners drew the entire family to her home where she filled them with love, food, and laughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Bowers and daughter Billie Chandler. She is survived by her three remaining children, Patrick (Kay) Bowers, Molly (Jim) McCartney, and Jon (Cecelia) Bowers and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, distant relatives, and many friends. We will miss seeing her smiling face at the back door, spoon in hand with a fresh apron on, ready to welcome us home.

Services will begin at 10:00 a.m., , 15 at Earthmans with visitation from 10-10:30 a.m., and rites immediately following. Per her request, there will be no graveside service. Burial will be held later at Memory Gardens in Baytown, Texas.

The family wishes to thank the staff and care givers at Jacinto City care for the love, compassion, and dedication given so freely to their mother.
