Obituary: MAXINE W. BLOUNT Maxine Whitten Blount passed from this world and into the Lords care on 22, 2014, at the age of 93. Her life was one of achievement and fulfillment as loving mother and wife. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, on 14, 1921, her family moved to San Antonio when she was a child. She listed reading and horseback riding as favorite hobbies, and possessed a wry sense of humor. She was a renowned leader at Incarnate Word , earning a wide range of honors, serving as President of Student Government, and graduating Summa cum Laude in 1942. graduation, she answered her countrys call to duty during World War II by serving as an Ensign in the United States Navy (W.A.V.E.S.). In 1944, she married Lt. Col. Stephen W. Blount III, who was still a pilot with the U.S. Army Air Corps, and they began to raise their family. She was devoted to her husband and her boys. The Blounts were the first couple in Texas to pool their veterans benefits and buy a ranch at Kingsbury, Texas. There, the family relished in the outdoors and enjoyed horseback riding. Travel was a great love of hers, and the family traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and the world. She assured that each of her sons received a college degree, and were also afforded the opportunity to visit Europe. The wondrous holidays and family gatherings she planned were cherished by all. She was predeceased by her husband, and by her son, Gregory Keith Blount, and is survived by sons Steve Blount, Craig Blount, Mark Blount and Scott Blount, and eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her deep Roman Catholic faith, and her natural strength and resilience, allowed her to survive a devastating illness for many years. We celebrate her life and are comforted in knowing that she is now with God. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the University of the Incarnate Word. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on , 28, at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Avenue. The funeral service and internment will be private ceremonies. |

Obituary: Janice Marie Blount, Lt. Col, Retired, USAF, (The Colonel), passed away peacefully on , 5, 2010. She was 90 years old. Born in Mansfield, LA on 20, 1920, she was a dedicated surgical nurse serving in the US Army and later, the US Air Force. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Margaret Blount and niece, Sandy Black. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. , 11, 2010 at Sunset Chapel. A celebration of life service will be held at 9:00 a.m. , 12, 2010 at Sunset Chapel with Deacon Paul Charron officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors at Fort Sam Houston National .
