Obituary: On the evening of 25, 2012, Betty Sue Blaylock slipped peacefully into the arms of her loving God, where she was joyfully reunited with many friends and family, including her husband of 54 years, Charles C. Blaylock. Betty Sue leaves behind a legacy of grace and love to her children and grandchildren: son Chuck, his wife Lynda, and their children Michael, Jake, and Kendra; son Dick, his wife Barbie, and their children Sara, Jack, Becky, and Bryan; and daughter Suzy Blaylock, her husband Mike Wyneken, and his children Caleb and Hannah. She precedes in death her only sibling, her sister Shirley L. Smith, and leaves indelible memories of love and laughter with her cousins, the Moores of Frost, Texas, as well with the numerous extended members of the Blaylock, Connell, and Reed families of Dallas. Born 17, 1937 in Woodville, Texas, to Elsie Mae and Colonel Richard Price Lively, Betty Sues family moved to University Park six weeks later. A self-proclaimed omboy who tried to take flight from the roof of the garage in Elementary School, she met her future husband, Charley Blaylock, in Junior High. During this time, she also attended a summer church camp, where she first felt the spark of what became a life-long commitment to pursuing Gods purpose for her life. Betty Sue graduated from Highland Park High School in 1955 and went on to attend Southern Methodist University. She pledged membership to the Tri Delta Sorority, where she created many dear and life-long friendships. She also reunited with Charles Blaylock, and they married in 1957, both continuing their classes in the mornings and working in the afternoons. Betty Sue worked in the office of SMU President Willis Tate. twelve years of marriage and three kids, Betty Sue acquired her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Southern Methodist University in 1969. Committed to furthering her education, a quality instilled by her father, she went on to earn her Masters Degree in Counselor Education from SMU in 1976, and her Doctorate of Education in Guidance and Counseling from Western Colorado State University in 1978. While continuing her formal education, Betty Sue flexed her entrepreneurial skills by selling Real Estate in the 1960s and opening her own store, The Plant Place, in the 1970s. She also launched a career of devoted volunteerism that would span half a century. Betty served as: Vice President of the Wadley Guild, raising funds for Childhood Leukemia Research; Leadership Trainer and Director of Day Camp activities for the Girl Scouts of America; and Vice President of the St. Marks School Parents Club, chairing the schools major fundraising activity for 2 years. She also combined her love of travel with her volunteer spirit by supporting the Foundation For Hospital Art. And throughout it all, she most enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whether it was in Cripple Creek, Colorado, Rockport, Texas or Ruidoso, New Mexico. In the early 1980s, Betty Sue found herself back at SMU, working as an Academic Advisor, the Recruitment Coordinator for the newly created er , and the Assistant Director of the Reading . She also launched her private counseling practice at this time. a few years, Dr. Blaylocks experience and faith took her to the Minirth Meier Christian Counseling in Richardson, where she focused her skills around young adults from homes affected by drug and alcohol abuse. Betty committed an overwhelming amount of time and energy in the last 15 years of her life fighting against Alzheimers Disease. She participated as an active volunteer for AWARE, the fundraising auxiliary of the Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimers Association, serving as the organizations President in 2004-05 and instrumental in securing a $1,000,000 Zenith Award for Alzheimers Research. She was recognized as the Volunteer of the Year for 2009. She also served as Treasurer and ultimately President of the Board of Directors of the Alzheimers Association. When her husband of 50 years was diagnosed with ALS, Betty Sue lovingly cared for him until his death in 2010. In 2009, she was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis, and while it never dimmed the bright light of her faith, it slowly weakened her precious body until God called her home, Christmas Night 2012. She loved God, her family, and friends, and her selfless grace has been an inspiration to all. A Celebration of Betty Sue Blaylocks life will be held at 2:00pm on , 8, 2012, at Northwest Bible Church, 8505 Douglas Avenue, in Dallas, with a reception immediately following at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Betty Sues memory to the Foundation For Hospital Art, www.hospitalart.org. |

Obituary: Howard Woelfert Blauvelt, a former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CONOCO, died peacefully at his home in Fulshear, TX on May 22, 2017. He was born 11, 1917, in New York City of Harry Orlando and Lillian Woelfert Blauvelt, and lived to celebrate his 100th Birthday this year. Howard grew up primarily in Clinton, Connecticut. Following graduation from Yale University in 1939, Howard received his CPA certification from the State of New York in 1942 and a Masters Degree from Columbia Graduate School of Business Administration in 1943. While attending Columbia, he began his career with the public accounting firm, Hurdman & Cranston, but his career was interrupted by a call to duty. From 1943 to 1946, Howard served his country during World War II as a LT. jg in command of Squadron 8 on Motor Torpedo Boat 122 in the South Pacific Theater of Operations. Upon returning home after the War, Howard resumed his career in accounting with positions at Bayuk Cigars, Inc. and Hanover Bank & Trust . In 1952, Howard accepted an offer from Continental Oil (CONOCO) to become their Assistant Controller, which meant moving to Ponca City, Oklahoma, a very long way and big change from New York, but a decision that would prove to be a very good one. Throughout his 27-year career with CONOCO, Howard progressed through several areas of the company including major responsibilities in Chemicals and Coal culminating in his promotion to Chairman and CEO in 1974, a position he held until 1979 when he took early retirement. Soon after his retirement from CONOCO, Howard moved his family from Greenwich Connecticut to Charlottesville, Virginia, and continued his career another 20 years working as a consultant and corporate director for companies including CONOCO, Abitibi-Price, Inc., Bankers Trust , Colgate-Palmolive , GTE Corporation, General Re Corporation, and Gulf Canada Corporation. He also served on the Board of Directors of Project Orbis, Inc. and National Executive Service Corps. Currently a member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston, Howard was a member of and served as an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich, CT, and also the First Presbyterian Church of Charlottesville, VA. He was active in the United Way of both communities, as well. He served on the Board of Trustees of St. Annes Belfield School in Charlottesville. A passionate golfer, Howard was a member of several golf clubs throughout his life including Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York, Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, Virginia, and a National Golf Club. Two golfing feats that he found especially satisfying were shooting a 73 at Troon Golf Club (Old Course) in Scotland, during a pouring rain, and a hole-in-one on #16 at a National. Expecting no more of others than he demanded of himself, Howard was a man of highest integrity. Hard decisions were met head on even when those decisions were not popular and at times personally painful. He was highly respected and known for his attention to detail. Howard is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Theodore Blauvelt and Richard Blauvelt; his first wife of 31 years, Margaret Hahn Blauvelt, and their son Harry Blauvelt. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Cassity Blauvelt of the home, their son, Bryan Howard Blauvelt and his wife Rachel; his daughter Margaret Blauvelt Wadds and her husband Robert; his daughter-in-law, Ellen Gale; four grandsons Owen Patrick James Mulligan, Randall Patrick Mulligan, Brantley Howard Blauvelt, and Carter Wesley Blauvelt; two great grandchildren, Avery Margaret Mulligan and Abel Mulligan; as well as two nieces and their children. The family wishes to thank the following devoted caregivers who provided special care for Howard over the past year: Antonio, Joanna, Tracey, Tinu, Dason and Azuka. A memorial service to celebrate Howards life will be held on , May 30th, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX with a reception following. In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions can be made in Howards memory to Yale University, Class of 1939, P. O.
