Obituary: Gladys Elnora Rosalie Youngbloom Blakeslee, 104, of Austin, Texas passed away on , 28, 2017. She was born on 31, 1912 in Georgetown, Texas to Carl Wesley Youngbloom and Elnora Anderson Youngbloom. Gladys grew up in Round Rock and was the oldest of nine children. She graduated from Round Rock High School in 1929. high school, she went to work at the Bakery at the University of Texas to help support her family during the Depression. Her work as a baker led her to later be employed as the head Baker at Cash and Carry Grocery Store. It is here that she met the love of her life, Joseph Travis Blakeslee. wed in of 1942 in Oakland, California as Travis was stationed there before being shipped out during World War II. Gladys and Travis were happily married for 49 years before his passing in of 1990. had two children, Joanne Blakeslee Counihan and Duane Travis Blakeslee. During her life Gladys was very involved as a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, The National Guard Auxiliary, Cosmopolitans, Gamma Phi Beta, and the Austin Womens Club. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Austins Catholic Church. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Elnora Youngbloom, by her husband, J. Travis Blakeslee, by her brothers: Edward Youngbloom, Alvin Youngbloom, and Elgene Youngbloom, and by her sisters: Blanche Evelyn Basey, Dorothy Mae Cluck, and Ella Mae Williams. Gladys is survived by her children: Joanne Counihan, husband Michael of Austin, Texas and Duane Blakeslee, wife Gwen of Jarrell, Texas; by her grandchildren: Melissa Counihan, William and Megan Counihan, Terise and Gil Urias, Ellen and Bryan Letts, Ken and Helen Jensen, Brian and Melanie Jensen, and David Blakeslee; by her great-grandchildren: Catie and Michael Besser, Coleman Counihan, Jimmy Counihan, Joanna Letts, Jesse Letts, Kade Jensen, Harris Jensen, Landon Jensen, and Emmy Kay Jensen; and by her youngest siblings, Vera Belle Steedley and Dan Youngbloom; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. arrangements will be held at 10:00 am on , 2, 2017 at St. Austins Catholic Church. Burial will follow immediately after mass at Assumption . Obituary: Our loving father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend Bill Blaker, 76, passed away as he slept evening. His children were at his bedside. Bill was born May 27, 1933, in Pleasanton, Kansas, where he grew up in the family home. He graduated from University of Kansas and was a member of San Pedro Presbyterian Church for more than 30 years. He enjoyed weekly bible study, served as an elder in the church and volunteered with Meals on Wheels, San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries and Christian Assistance Ministries. Bill served 22 years in the U.S. Air Force and retired from a second career with Harlandale Independent School District. He created a beautiful family with his loving wife of 48 years, Sandra Van Cleve Blaker. He leaves behind an extended family and friends whose lives he shaped through his kindness, humor, faith and generous treatment of others. Bill had a joy for life that he retained to the end. He is preceded by his wife, Sandra. Bill is survived by his children and their spouses Nancee and Terry Swanson, and David Ashley and Michele Blaker; and his grandchildren, Samuel Fray Swanson, Barrett Ashley Blaker and Ruth Clare Blaker; and extended family members. Obituary: Martin (Marty) Joseph Blaker was born on 8, 1928 to Benjamin and Fannie Esther Blaker in Philadelphia, PA. When Marty was 6 years old they moved to Washington D.C. In Martys high school days he was a Track Star as a, Pole Vaulter and Graduated in 1947 from Roosevelt High School in Washington D.C. high school graduation Martin (Marty) worked at Rothstein Dental Lab until induction into U.S. Army at time of Korean conflict. He was assigned to Dental Detachment unit as a Dental Technician. Upon discharge from the military he enrolled in Montgomery Junior for two years. While attending college he worked at his parents gas station by Key Bridge on the Potomac River in Georgetown, Washington, DC. He continued his education pursuit until graduation from Howard University in Washington, DC, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree. Martin (Marty) and Flo began dating shortly after his return from the Army. Florence (Flo) Cohen and Martin (Marty) Blaker had known each other since Martin (Marty) were 21 and Flo was 16 years of age. both belonged to the same social circles. Martin (Marty) and Flo began Dating and were married on, 7, 1955. marriage and graduation from college Marty took over his parents gas station which allowed them to retire and move to Miami, Florida. He also had learned from his father to repair automobile radiators along with most automotive functions. By watching and helping his father at the business location Marty also learned Auto body work and painting. Martin (Marty) and Flo welcomed their first born son on; 13, 1956 he was named Ronald Alvin Blaker. welcomed their second son on; 20, 1961 (JFK Inauguration Day) he was named Alex Mitchel Blaker. During Martin (Martys) life he owned and operated several Auto Salvage Businesses. In 1996, Martin (Marty) and Flo Blaker moved from Maryland to Round Rock, Texas to be near their sons. Once settled Martin (Marty) was working for RRISD as a School Bus Driver. Then after leaving RRISD Martin (Marty) began working for Enterprise Rent-a-Car as a Transportation Driver taking the cars back all over the State of Texas to the original Enterprise location from where the cars were housed. Martin (Marty) did this up until of 2014. Martin (Marty) has been a member of the Masons for 60 years. He began his Stewardship with the Masons at, Samuel Compers-Benjamin Franklin Lodge #45 in Washington D.C. then upon moving to Texas transferred to Liberty Hill Lodge #432. In 2005, Martin (Marty) was given the honor of receiving the Golden Trowel Award. In addition, Marty was a member of: The Scottish Rite of Free Masonry. Martin (Marty) was married to Flo for 60 years this past . Martin (Marty) loved his Sons, Grandchildren, Renovating Boats, and Cars and loved to Fish. In addition, to Martys sons he was an avid Animal Lover and loved his dogs, Greta and Lucy and Birds, Buddy and Edith. Marty leaves behind his wife, Florence (Flo) Blaker, 82 of Round Rock, Texas. Sons, Ronald Blaker, 59 and Daughter in-law, Dr. Cathy Roane-Blaker of Austin, Texas and Alex Blaker, 54 of Round Rock, Texas. Grandchildren: Ian Douglas Ives 24, of Austin, Texas. Elliott Dallas Ives 22, of San Marcos, Texas, And Sabrina Diane Blaker 17, of Round Rock, Texas. Rottweilers: Greta and Lucy, and Cockatoos: Buddy and Edith.
