Obituary: Viola Brumfield Benson, 96, passed away on 7, 2011 at Odyssey House Hospice in Conroe, Texas after losing her battle with cancer. Viola was born on May 25, 1915 in Longworth, Fisher , Texas to Myrtle Montgomery and Harmon E. Brumfield and continued to live in the Nolan and Fisher areas until 2006 when she moved to Parkside of Panorama in Willis, Texas to be closer to family. Mrs. B as her students fondly called her spent over 50 years involved in education. She received her BA and MA degrees from Hardin Simmons University majoring in English and Psychology; Doctorate of Education at Texas Tech University. Mrs. Benson began teaching in 1940 and spent the majority of her career in the school systems of Nolan . Being named Teacher of the Year in 1977 was one of the highlights of her teaching career. She served as Instructional Supervisor in the rural schools of Nolan for over 19 years. She returned to the classroom and taught 5th and 6th grade English and Language Arts at Phillip Nolan Middle School. She also taught language arts in the Adult GED program. She served four terms as a member of the Texas State Text Book Committee, and served three terms as an advisor. She was a life member of the Texas State Teachers Association and served as District President. She was also a life member of the National Education Association. She belonged to Highland Heights United Methodist Church in Sweetwater where she taught an adult School Class for over 30 years. While in the Willis area, she attended The First United Methodist Church in Conroe. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe D. Benson on 14, 2000; her sister, Thelma Tim Kennedy, her brother, Vernon Brumfield, and her nephew Freddie Hale. Survivors include her daughter, VJ Derrington and husband Michael of Panorama Village, Grandson, Brent Benson Bowell and wife Kathie of Willis, Great-Grandsons, Bryce Boswell and Brighton Boswell of Willis. She is also survived by a sister, Geneva Hale Perkins of Roby, nieces, Beth Turner and husband George of Roby, and Sue Schlueter and husband Dwayne, of Trent and nephew, Danny Brumfield and wife Jody, of Trent. Visitation will be held , 9, 2011 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Cashner . A second viewing will be held at McCoys in Sweetwater, TX on 10, 2011 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Services will be held at Highland Heights United Methodist Church in Sweetwater on 11, 2011 at 1pm. Burial will be in Roby, Texas at the Roby immediately following services. Obituary: Sam Benson, 73, passed away on , 18, 2013, at his residence in Dallas, TX. He will always be remembered as a loving, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all that knew and loved him. He was born in Texarkana, TX on 10, 1940, to Sam Henry Benson and Carrie Frances Emerson Benson. He was a long-time restaurateur and a member of the Texas Restaurant Association since 1964. He also served two terms as president of the Dallas Restaurant Association. Sam was a regional manager with El Chico Corporation for many years before opening Café Maria in Garland with his father-in-law Joe Caballero. Later he was a partner and General Manager of Tejano Mexican Restaurant in North Oak Cliff. Benson attended Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, North Texas State University in Denton, and the University of Texas at Arlington. His motto was o live a Christian life and to be of service to others. He is survived by his wife Fifi Caballero Benson of Dallas, TX; daughter Gina OBriant of Dallas, and son-in-law Mark; granddaughter Lauren Honor OBriant and her fiancé, Dane Wilson, granddaughter Lindsey OBriant Harris and her husband Brandon; and one great-granddaughter, Leighton Monroe Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald Benson. A Service will be conducted at 12:00 pm oon on , 21, 2013, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Hwy Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park . |

Obituary: Roger Charles Benson, the son of Rudolph Charles and Gladys Lorraine Denzer Benson, was born 4, 1935 in Glenwood City, Wisconsin. Roger passed from this life , 16th. Education, whether academic or practical, was always a priority and passion of his and an interest that he encouraged and gladly assisted in providing. Roger loved to acquire and share knowledge. Following his achievements as a student, he entered the United States Army and not only served his country, but found tremendous satisfaction in the educational opportunities that his military service provided as he traveled throughout Europe. He often shared his love of travel and the subsequent adventures with his friends and family as they visited various areas of the United States, Mexico and Europe. Roger was deeply patriotic and his love of America and Americana provided an excitement for him that was most evident in his approach to life. His enthusiasm for politics - for the stock market and investments-for Americas farms and countryside- was contagious. He learned his business from the floor-up. He loved sales, eventually buying the company, Wagner Packaging, for which he worked . ...but always fighting his management duties to go sell something. services will be at 1 pm. , 19th, in the Ted Dickey West Chapel with Dr. Edward Porter officiating. He will be inurned at the Dallas-Fort Worth National . Preceded in death by his wife Sharon Ann, Roger is survived by his son, Robert Bob Benson and is wife Alisa; and by his daughter, Rebecca Becky Jacobs and her husband, Lance; by a brother, Richard Benson and Grandchildren, Cassidy, Prater, Averie, Tyler and Emily and by a God-daughter, Patty Benson and several other nieces and nephews. Obituary: Robert Smith Bob Benson, 87, passed away 11, 2011. Bob was born 02, 1924 in Hillsboro, Texas, to James Wilson and Sarah Jane Lewis Benson. The Benson family farmed cotton and corn in Hillsboro and Bellmead, Texas. He is one of fourteen children, 7 brothers and 6 sisters. He served in the United States Army, 20th Armored Division, 20th Tank Battalion, as a Tank Commander under General Patton from 1941 to 1944 during World War II driving tanks in Germany, France and Switzerland. Bob married Doris Guthrie in 1947 and they moved to Houston, Texas. had two children before their 24 year marriage ended. In 1957, Bob finished his Bachelor of Applied Mechanics/Sciences at the University of Houston. Following his service in the Army, Bob operated heavy equipment and was an Excavation Master Operator in the commercial/civil construction industry. He later met Mary Ullrich and they had over 30 years together residing mainly in Pearland, Texas. His favorite sport was baseball, especially the Houston Astros. Most people that know Bob know that he had a very colorful personality and could always be counted on to share his thoughts on any subject. Bob always wore baseball caps no matter what occasion and he would rarely leave his home without one. He enjoyed playing a domino game of 42 and would often play with his brothers at family gatherings. Bob loved to visit with people, he liked telling jokes and making people smile. He enjoyed traveling to see extended family. At Hilltop Lakes, he had a couple of 4-wheelers and the family enjoyed riding those as well. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life. He was especially proud that all three grandchildren obtained their college degrees. Bob has always loved dogs and he has had many loyal companions throughout his life. His most recent companions were Princess, Mr. Giggs, and Molly. Bob is survived by partner Mary Ullrich; one sister, Margie Robinson, of Waco, Texas; daughter Judy and her husband Elvin Brugha of Katy, Texas; son Buddy and his wife Michelle Benson of Houston, Texas; Granddaughter Nicole and her husband Adam Bellingham of Highland Village (Dallas), Texas; Granddaughter Holly Brugha of Katy, Texas; Grandson Adam Benson of Katy, Texas. Visitation/Viewing will be held , 14, 2011 from 5pm-8pm. Services and Burial will be held , 15, 2011 at 12:30pm. |
