Obituary: Randy Becton, author, minister and founder of the Caring Cancer Ministry, went to his Heavenly home on , 23, 2016, he was 71. Visitation is , 29, from 6-8 p.m. at Elliott-Hamil , 542 Hickory. Services celebrating his life are planned , 30, at 10 a.m. at University Church of Christ in Abilene with burial immediately afterward at the Dudley , FM 1178 off Hwy 36. He was born Sept. 17, 1944, in Nashville, Tennessee, the second of four children of Harold and Myrna Becton. He was raised in Nashville and attended David Lipscomb High School; he played basketball and baseball, beginning a lifelong love for baseball that included an extensive baseball card collection he shared generously. He attended David Lipscomb , he graduated in 1966 with a bachelors degree in Bible. He began graduate studies at the Harding Graduate School of Religion in Memphis, Tennessee, but followed professor, Dr. George Gurganus, to Abilene Christian University where he earned his masters degree in missions in 1971. While at Lipscomb, he met and married Camilla Greer, on 22, 1966. In 1969, he began a career with Herald of Truth, serving in numerous roles including executive director. From 1991 until his retirement in 2006, he continued to serve as minister at large. Under his leadership at Herald of Truth, the international radio and television ministry expanded to include multiple programs. He was instrumental in the creation of the annual Saving the American Family Conference, editor of UpReach magazine and the speaker for Caring Touch Radio and numerous television specials. He was an author and grief counselor. In 1973, just months after the birth of their third child, he was diagnosed with leucytic lymphoma beginning a journey of treatment, remissions, surgeries, complications and side-effects that spanned more than 40 years, defying his doctors predictions. Following Gods plans, he was inspired to begin the Caring Cancer Ministry, an outreach of comfort and encouragement for cancer patients and their families, publishing books and pamphlets for patients, caregivers and ministers and personally corresponding with hundreds of individuals battling cancer. For 16 years, he served as an elder at Highland Church of Christ. For the past several years he has been a member of University Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Camilla; and their three daughters, Stacia Looney of Allen and her husband Adam, Shana Becton of McKinney, and Shara Wilson of Frisco and her husband Byrron. He is also survived by: eight grandchildren - Jenna and Jonathan Looney of Allen; Maya, Preston and Garrett Becton of Houston; Breylin Becton, B.J. Wilson, and Ashlen Wilson of Frisco; daughter-in-law Natasha of Houston; and two sisters, Myrna Williams of Nashville and Lynda Kinney of Houston. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark; his parents; and his brother, Harold. The family wishes to thank the caregivers and hospice workers with Integra for their compassion and kindness.
