Obituary: Mary Goodrich Baskin of San Antonio died peacefully on 7, 2011, at the age of 86. Born and raised in Marlin, Texas, Mary attended Mary Baldwin in Staunton, Va., before graduating with a journalism degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1946, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi. Following graduation, she turned down a job offer from Vogue magazine in Paris to marry James D. Jim Baskin in 1946, shortly after his graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy.
Mary and Jim had great fun as a young Navy couple, making friends and experiencing the best of post-war America at such duty stations as Honolulu, Long Beach, Pensacola and Annapolis. Mary and Jim left the Navy in 1954 and returned to Texas, where Jim earned a law degree from the University of Texas. Following law school, they settled in San Antonio, where Jim practiced law until his death in 2003. Mary threw herself into family and civic life in San Antonio. A lifelong Presbyterian, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon, School teacher, communion bread baker, and member of Presbyterian Women. She was a member of the Battle of Flowers Association, Le Club, the San Antonio Bar Auxiliary, the Military-Civilian Club, and the Merry Widows. She volunteered at Mission Road Development , Victoria Court, and SAMM. She and Jim were active in the Democratic Party.
Mary devoted most of her energy to raising her four children, Molly, Jamie, Bob, and Stuart, and seeing to their educations. She always had a smile and an encouraging word except when her children vexed her, which was often. She instilled in them a love of laughter and learning, and a sense of duty to serve others. Mary is survived by her four children, Molly Baskin and Tony Brooks of Wilmette, Ill., Jamie and Elizabeth Baskin of Austin, Bob and Elizabeth Baskin of Richmond, Va., and Stuart and Amy Baskin of Tyler; nine grandchildren: Peyton Brooks, Caroline Brooks, Chase Northington, Alex Northington, Liza Baskin, Whitney Baskin, Sarah Baskin, Campbell Baskin, and Mary Peyton Baskin; one sister, Louise Weezie Burton of Marlin, and one brother, Horace Goodrich of Houston. David Wayne Baskin, age 48, passed away in his Whitehouse home on 9, 2015. He was surrounded by loved ones and transitioned to his permanent home where he now has a perfected body and suffers no more from the ALS disease that he was diagnosed with in May, 2010.

David was born in Tyler on 12, 1967 to the parents of Richard and Brenda Baskin. He spent his childhood years in Marshall where he began his passion for racing motocross. He moved to Tyler after completing high school and began competing. With his natural God given talents, he quickly became known in the motocross community as Super Dave and Diamond Dave and won many races.

David met the love of his life, Keri Johnson, while attending TJC and they were married, 18, 1992. had two beautiful children, Parker, 25, 1996 and McKenzie, 12, 1999. David was the most incredibly loving father that a wife could ever ask for. He was involved in every aspect of their lives, but most importantly was the knowledge and training that he provided them on how to live a purposeful, thriving life that he exemplified throughout his.

He took up golf in his young 20's and quickly became a scratch golfer and then used his talents as an assistant golf pro at Willowbrook Country Club. One of the highlights of his golfing career was the opportunity to play at Pebble Beach soon after his diagnosis.

experimenting with a few jobs, David opened up his own security business in 1997. That company evolved into eventually Design Audio Video in which he was still conducting business until his very last day. David always had a brilliant, creative vision so it was no surprise that he was so successful in the corporate world. His fearless, warrior attitude inspired him to continue to persevere throughout the challenges of the disease so that he could be with his family and take care of them.

Later in life, he also began to ride mountain bikes and was known for riding in 80 mile races. He was always a fierce competitor. He saw his health as just another challenge for him and he was determined to not allow it to get in his way of leading a full life. He was a member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church. David leaves a legacy of HOPE, perseverance, but most importantly one of love.
