Obituary: On 24, 2016, Mom ended her long fight against ovarian cancer. She passed away in peacefulness of her own home with her two daughters at her side holding her hands. As she slowly slipped away, the feeling of her unconditional love was felt through the warmth of her hands. Mom was a loving and devoted mother, an adored grandmother, an extremely loyal friend, and a creatively dedicated teacher. Mom dedicated her entire life to the education and betterment of children. She constantly educated us into adulthood, spent hours teaching each of her grandchildren, and giving the rest of her heart to children who, not only needed education, but also needed love. She came up with creative ways to teach and set the educational foundation for each of her four grandchildren.from telling stories with hand puppets.to writing books with them, to reading books with them nightly on the phone..and taking field trips around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area just to teach them about the state of Texas through her eyes. Mom and Dad were together and totally in love with each other for over 50 years. When Dad passed away two and a half years ago, a huge piece of her heart went with him. Their love for each other was unlike any other.when Dad would walk into a room, she would light up. When he walked in the door from work, there wasn a day that went by she didn greet him with a kiss and a smile. She gave him her whole heart for his whole life and then some. She was always moved to tears with any memory of the two of them together. She exemplified patience, integrity, and perseverance and lived her life with grace and humility. She was by far the most courageous woman, especially when faced with adversity. She fought cancer head-on, not once, but twice.and then fought the metastasis of this horrible disease with extreme bravery. Mom never complained about anything, even in her darkest of days.she never wanted her struggles to be anyone elses burdens. Mom loved the Lord and used the talents and gifts she was given, not only to help children in private and public education, but also, in the church. She taught School and choir, directed childrens programs, assisted with making costumes for performances at church, and even took on the role as Mary in several church performances. She took this education home, and over the last several years, helped her grandchildren perform the story of Christs birth with script and costumes. She was always thinking ahead and coming up with ways to make a story have a lasting impression. Second only to her family, Mom loved being with her friends. She loved to entertain and welcomed everyone into her home, so she could show each one of them how special their friendship was to her. She had a passion for sharing her love of tea and tea parties, her culture, and her heart with all her friends. Everyone was welcome at any time. She also had a love of sewing. She made church dresses and prom dresses for her daughters, and clothing for their baby dolls growing up, and then spent hours learning to embroidery and smock dresses for her granddaughters. She took classes to give her all of the knowledge to make these items perfect. She worked tirelessly to preserve memories through the production of t-shirt quilts.even for the one school that has huge piece of her heart.Mendenhall Elementary School in Plano. Mom started her teaching career in Shreveport teaching Kindergarten at Cherokee Park with one of her closest friends. She moved on to teach at First Baptist Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana; Parkview Baptist Church School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Southhampton Elementary School in Richmond, Virginia; Mendenhall Elementary School in Plano, Texas; and ended her career at the Administration Office in Plano writing math and reading curriculum before retiring in of 2015. Although she taught kindergarten, first and second grades.her love was teaching first grade. Mom was the most beloved grandmother.Nina as she was known to everyone.involved so closely in the lives of all of her grandchildren. She encouraged them, loved them, and supported them in all of their educational and extracurricular activities and achievements. She went to dance recitals, cheer competitions, dance competitions, football games, basketball games, baseball games, soccer games, baptisms, award ceremonies and graduations. It didn matter what was happening to her medically or physically, she would move mountains to be there for her four precious gifts from God. Each of them loved her in return whole-heartedly and unconditionally. Mom touched the lives of so many people as she walked through life. Today she exhibited this verse in the Bible, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith Until we see you again, your legacy will live on through the lives of your children and grandchildren. You will be missed here on earth, but we know Papa and Jesus are greeting you with open arms.and that makes all of this bearable. Deuteronomy 31:8 The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. |

Obituary: On , 31, Dad lost his very short, but intense battle with colon cancer. He passed away peacefully in the quietness of his home with his wife and daughters at his side holding his hands. As he slipped away, he left his three girls the gift of his smile. Dad was an amazing husband, and devoted father, the perfect father-in-law, and a one-of-a-kind Papa. Together for over 50 years, Mom and Dad have exemplified the definition of marriage as created by God. made each other happy with every day they were together. Dads eyes would always light up with a twinkle every time he would see Mom or talk about Mom. were true soul-mates in every since of the word. He loved his family more than anything in the world. He was the family patriarch who set the perfect example of a Godly man who loved the Lord. Dads advice when one of us were worried, upset, or going through a hard time would always be the same, ake it to the cross. We knew we could always count on Dad to make every situation better by his optimistic outlook, positive, encouraging words, and his unforgettable smile. Mom and Dad loved spending time at the beach together and most recently celebrated their 50th anniversary in Destin with the entire family. Dad loved attending LSU football games in Tiger Stadium for years. His ringtone on his cell phone was the LSU fight song, and when he passed away , his LSU flag was flying high on his outdoor flag pole. Dad also had an incredible work ethic which he learned from watching his own Mom and Dad. He started his career in Shreveport at United Oil & Gas which later changed its name to Penzoil. several years with Penzoil, Dad went to work for P&O Falco, Transcontinental, and Ethyl Corporation which was the transfer that landed him in iger country. Ethyl eventually transferred Dad to Richmond which later became Tredegar and eventually landed him in Plano, Texas. For the last 18 years, Dad worked for the Baptist Foundation of Texas. He was able to do the work he loved as a landman while serving the Lord and sharing his life across the states of Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Dad touched the lives of so many people throughout his life, some of which we will never know. He always had a best friend everywhere he went from the hotels in places he traveled, the umbrella boy on the beach, and even the ladies at the Brighton store at Willow Bend. Dad always had a kind, generous heart. He was able to show his sweet spirit most recently to all of his grandchildren who lit up his life in their own unique ways. His grandchildren adored him. He was their hero. While life on earth will be empty without the presence of Jim Bartell, God gained a precious angel with open arms and said, well done my good and faithful servant. |
