Obituary: ELIZABETH HUTCHESON BARRINGER Barringer, Elizabeth Hutcheson, 73, passed away on 2, 2014 in Dallas. Betty was born to Guy and Ruth Hutcheson on 28, 1941 in New York, NY. In 1945, her family returned to Texas where she grew up in Arlington. She attended Agnes Scott in Decatur, GA and received B.A. and M.A. degrees from Southern Methodist University. A dedicated and tireless teacher, she taught the majority of her 40-year career for the Dallas Independent School District. Since 2000, she taught 7th grade Texas history for the gifted and talented program at William B. Travis TAG Academy where she was recognized as teacher of the year in 2006. She was also recognized as teacher of the year by the Dallas Council for the Social Studies, the Texas Council for the Social Studies and T.J. Rusk Middle School. She most recently received the 2013 Billy Sills Distinguished Service Award for exemplary service as a social studies teacher throughout her career. Her commitment to her students extended beyond the classroom. Every year since 1979, she took the 7th grade to Galveston for the Galveston Spring Heritage Tour. Betty is survived by her husband of 33 years, Van Barringer; her children, Bill Carroll and wife, Sandra; Caroline Carroll; Jon Carroll and wife, Elka; her grandchildren Olivia, Alexander, Nola and Rowan; her sister, Ann Hightower. Visitation: 1-3 p.m. , Sparkman/Hillcrest , 7405 W. Northwest Hwy, Dallas. Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. , Highland Park United Methodist Church, Cox Chapel, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas. In lieu of flowers, feel free to donate to the charity of your choice. |
