Obituary: DINA H. BARDI Born: 10, 1939 Place of Birth: San Salvador, El Salvador C.A. Died: 15, 2016 Survived by: Dina is survived by her two brothers Remo and Hugo, son Robert, Grandchildren Leslie and Christopher, Great Grandchildren Vincent, Scout and Viviann. Her extended family of her daughter-in-law Beckie, Charlie, Richard, Dena, Bill, Iris, Mike, Kristin and Michele. As well as many friends and adopted family members. So this is close to the typical obituary but in reality my mother was so much more than this. Dina was the last of ten children born to Margarita Cevallos De Bardi and Remo Bardi Rinaldi (Remo Bardi) of which four survived. Margarita, Remo, Hugo and Dina (the baby). Growing up my mother was a very precocious little girl. At the age of two her mother took her and a nanny to the park. The nanny got lost coming back to the house so my two year old mother guided her home. The nanny was superstitious and was sure that my mother was possessed and quit the next day. Those of us that knew her well might agree with that assessment ? When she was older she would be dropped off at the school entrance but instead of going to school, my mother would skip out and go to the market to play with the vendor's kids. The vendors knew her so well that they would give fruit and cheeses throughout the day. She finally got caught when the school called to inquire why she had not been to school. Later when she was in a catholic boarding school, she and her friends would pull pranks on the nuns. Putting warming powder in the nun's seat to make her feel like she wet herself, putting a powder in the toilet that bubbled and made a lot of noise when the nun entered the bathroom because polite girls didn make noise in the bathroom. The worst was when she conspired to get a boy caught who was sneaking into a girl's room at night. told the nun that the boy was hiding under the girl's bed and when the nun checked, he shot out the other side running for the stairs with the nun close behind. My mother was stationed at the stairs and put her foot out to trip the boy. As fate would have it, the boy jumped over my mother's leg but the nun didn't make it. It didn't take many pranks like this before the decision was made to move her to a different school. Ultimately my mother was sent to the U.S. to live with her sister Margarita and to finish schooling. She received a diploma from Haines City High School in Florida. She went to college for a short time but did not finish. Here is where I come in. I was born in Baltimore, Maryland and my mother moved back to Florida to live with her sister's family to raise me. While there she helped raise her sister's children as well as me while trying to earn a living. Since she didn have much of an education she had to use her wits to make things happen for herself and her son. Her precocious nature served her well here. We moved back to El Salvador and while there she applied for a position as an executive secretary to the president of Standard Oil. During the interview she was asked to take a letter in short hand. She took out a steno pad and Mr. Castle, the president, started dictating. Dear Mr. Baker . and on he went. My mother dutifully made entries in her steno pad. When he was done he asked my mother to read it back to him. She started, Dear Mr. Baker . at this point she paused for a long time then looked up and confessed that she couldn continue because she didn know short hand and had nothing but scribbles in her steno pad. hired her anyway and sent her to secretarial school. She eventually became the presidents executive secretary and did her typical exemplary job! We moved back to Florida and we went from living in a rundown house with broken windows and often very thin on groceries in the pantry to eventually living in a very nice condo two blocks from the beach in Vero Beach, Florida. While in Vero Beach she became a Vice President in a development company. My mother worked hard, sacrificed much in her life and all to take care of the most important person in her life .. her son! She has always been a giving person with a soft spot in her heart for the unfortunate in the world including animals. She has always been the most important influence in my life and gave me a sense of the value of hard work, determination and integrity. My children can map these same values in a straight line through me to her! I know that my mother has been many things to many people in her life. She has been all of these things and more to me. I will miss her more than I can ever express but I revel in the light and the life I had with her. From her brother Remo: There are no words to express love feelings for a sister. Dina, that spirited and happy girl, was the joy of our home, she was the baby, the spoiled one. She moved to the United States when she was very young, but we never lost touch; she was my little sister. She had a heart of gold and did much good, whenever she could. Every person who knew her can attest to that. Our relationship was always one of care, comprehension and love. Today, my heart is with her.
