Obituary: Celebration of life service for Velma Baker, 92, of Lubbock will be held at 10 am, , 20, 2010. Velma was born 13, 1918 in Brown , Texas. The family moved to Childress in 1919. She graduated from Tell High School in 1936 and married Ernest Baker on May 26, 1936; they remained in Tell until 1942 when they moved to Springlake, TX to farm. Velma was a homemaker and dedicated worker in the First Baptist Church of Springlake where she was a charter member, and served as clerk for 29 years, School Director for 12 years, and enjoyed singing in the choir. In 1985, she and Ernest moved to Lubbock. She became a willing worker for the Lord at Bacon Heights Baptist Church. Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest in 1995. And only sibling, Thelma Smith. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Bacon Heights Baptist Church. |

Obituary: Varas Elmo Baker was born on 24, 1930 in Southerland Springs, Texas, to parents Houston G. Baker and his wife Edna. Edna died shortly after his birth. Ednas death, Houston Baker became a Baptist preacher and married Alpha Clair. Houston and Alpha provided Elmo a godly home environment, which formed a stable and important foundation for the 84 years of life God enabled Elmo to live. Elmo accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior at a young age. The godly heritage of Elmos formative years produced a rock solid man, directed and governed by Gods value-system. Elmo has expressed his love for the Lord in countless ways. One was through his membership and active participation in the North Oaks Baptist Church of Spring, Texas for the past 12 years. His church family of brothers and sisters loved him and will miss him. None were prepared to tell him goodbye just yet. Elmo moved to Houston, Texas as a teenager when his father begin a 23 year pastorate of the Shady Acres Baptist Church. Elmo attended and graduated from Reagan High School. Immediately following graduation, Elmo servd in the United States Army in the volatile Korean theatre, manning an antiaircraft gun. he returned from his service in the United States Army, Elmo and his brother T.H. opened Baker Brothers Used Cars in San Antonio, Texas. In 1957 he returned to Houston, Texas and it was here that he called home until God called him to his eternal home early in the morning hours of this past , 6. Elmos keen business insight was applied in various fields over the years. He was successful as a Real Estate developer and builder of homes, apartments and warehouses. Perhaps he will be best known for the last 57 years as developer and owner of Baker Auto Sales, Inc. Here he truly found his niche as he applied uncanny business, learned skills, untold hours and sacrifice, (no doubt a good measure of trial and error) to produce a unique business that would meet far more needs than just a required car. Elmo became a friend and a blessing to countless individuals (to include family, friends, and strangers) through his almost limitless generosity. Elmo didn just do business, he did love. He had the gift of giving and he did not pass up many opportunities. Elmo has gone home to be with his Lord. He was preceded by his grandson James. He leaves behind, one brother, Thomas Houston (T.H.) of San Antonio, five sons and their wives, all of whom live in Houston: Jerry, Jimmy and Nidia, Johnny and Janice, Jack and Theresa and Elmo; two daughters: Victoria and husband Tony Flores and Becky Galeanna; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends who will all miss him dearly. Visitation will be from 5:00pm until 8:00pm , 9, 2014 at Heights . Service will be held at 10:00am , 10, 2014 in the Chapel of Heights with Rev. Fred Wiesen officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Oaks . under the direction of Heights , Houston, TX. |

Obituary: Valeria Baker was born on 17, 1958 in Buffalo, New York to Hampton and Rebecca Myles. Valeria grew up in Buffalo with 10 siblings. Valeria moved to live in Texas in 1986 where she was an IT professional which included the point of sale. Valeria loved to host and participate in family gatherings, dinner parties, sporting events, and any other reason to be with her family and friends. More than anything Valeria loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed making people laugh but Valeria was a true person to herself and to others. She was never one to sugar coat her feelings or thoughts. She called it as she saw it, but was the first person to lend a helping hand or give you the coat off of her back. Even through her illness, she did what she could to help her family and friends. She persevered where most could not. Valeria was a very loving and firm mother. She is survived by her son, Jimmie L. Baker Jr, her grandchildren Landon and Haylee Baker, her siblings: Larry Myles, Betty Bosley, Ernestine Nunn, Hampton Myles Jr., Walter Myles, Martha Lucas, Vernon Myles, Roosevelt Myles, Robert Myles, and Cynthia Tanksley, her aunt Leola Harrison, her past husband Jimmie L. Baker Sr., as well as by her numerous friends and family who loved her dearly. She will be missed greatly, but will never be forgotten. She was preceded in death by her parents Hampton and Rebecca Myles and Samantha Cothran. |

Obituary: Val A. Baker, 94, of Houston, Texas went to be with his Lord 14, 2016 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, 21, 1921. Val graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York and then served as Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II. the war, Val joined Eastern Airlines where he worked for over 35 years. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eva Baker; son, Craig Lindamood and wife Beverly of Conroe, Texas; grandsons Jason and Matthew; sister-in-law, Wilma Simms and nephews Roger and Jeff of Dayton, Ohio; sister-in-law Delle Baker of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and many nieces and nephews. Val and Eva attended Lakewood Church for many decades. Most importantly, Val loved the Lord Jesus as reflected in the life that he lived. We will miss him greatly.
