Obituary: Vaughn Thomas Baird died 29, in Belton, TX, enveloped in the love and admiration of his family. He enjoyed the serenity of his beloved farm, secure in the peace of his Christian faith. He was born in Thorndale, TX, on 23, 1929. His childhood on a small farm was full of hardscrabble adventures, which set the tone for a life characterized by hard work and great ambition. He married Joyce Lee West on 28, 1949 in Wichita Falls and served her devotedly until her death on May 22, 2013. He cherished three sons and daughters-in-law and delighted in twelve grandchildren. In recent years, he welcomed the birth of seven great-grandchildren. working in the construction industry for a number of years, Vaughn founded BFW Construction, Co. in 1964 and worked there until 1978. He then began a series of etirement projects that included the development of Summers Mill, a stint as the CEO of National Bank, and, finally, the improvement of a cattle and hay farm in Belton. He invested in a number of local business ventures, offering both wisdom and financial support. His work ethic was unparalleled and serves as a model for his family and a testament to his faith. Vaughns passion for travel and adventure led him to six continents and almost every state. He persuaded Joyce, his loving and patient companion, to make annual road-trips to Alaska, and he was an accomplished hunter of exotic game. Vaughn was an imposing figure and nurtured an outsized sense of humor. As a gifted storyteller, he told humorous tales and delivered speeches on the importance of leading an ethical and Godly life, both of which his family remembers with respect and affection. To his grandchildren, Vaughn leaves a wide-ranging legacy that includes an admonition to serve others and an appreciation for grazing cows and open fields. Those who knew him will treasure his impeccable moral code, his dedication to family, and his humble demeanor. He was a member of Temple Bible Church and served as a model of Christian leadership in his home and the community. He is survived by his brother, Cue Baird and wife Marie, and his twin, Vernon Baird and wife Johnnie, all of Temple. His children are Thomas Baird and wife Cindy (Temple), David Baird and wife Kathy (Temple), and Byron Baird and wife Rosemary (Belton). His grandchildren, whom he equipped with pocket-knives and many pearls of wisdom, include: Suzannah Smalley and husband David (Nederland), Jordan Baird and wife Brianne (Houston), Zachary Baird and wife Charlotte (Salado), Jeffrey Baird (Houston), Julianne Baird (Temple) and LauraLee Baird (Austin). In addition, Lauren Baird and husband Robert Trottmann (San Antonio), Michael Baird and wife Colleen (Oakhurst, CA), Katherine Thomas and husband Michael (Chantilly, VA), and Andrew Baird and wife Jenni (Oakland, CA). Also, Addie Baird (Austin) and Audrey Baird (Belton). His great-grandchildren are: Helen and Huck Baird Trottmann (San Antonio), Elliot Baird (Oakhurst), Hugh Smalley (Nederland), Gemma and Jansen Baird (Houston), and Annelise Baird (Oakland). are blessed to inherit his legacy of determination and humility. Obituary: Thomas Morgan Baird, a man with a heart of gold and soft as a teddy bear slipped into the arms of his Lord on 20, after a brief illness with his family surrounding him. If you didn know him well, you would not know this. He was a native Texan born in Houston on 9-18-42 and went to California to live with his parents Walter and Opal Baird when he was a few weeks old. He and his family lived throughout the oil producing areas of the states while his father was employed with GSI (forerunner of TI). When it was time for Thom to enter kindergarten, the family moved to Fort Worth where he lived until he graduated from the Fort Worth schools. He married Sondra Kay Dewey in 1966 and two children were born to this union, Thomas Jr. and Brooke. were the light of his life and he supported them unconditionally. One of those lights was extinguished in , 1998 and in his grief he saw to it that Brookes legacy lived on with an endowed scholarship at TCU. His motto was, I can give my children two things: unconditional love and an education. He endowed them with his generosity for their many passions, financially and emotionally. Thom began working for Lincoln National Life in 1975, attaining Rookie of the Year and never questioned his career choice. He earned his CLU designation in 1979. Thom established his own agency, Planning Services, in 1987. He tutored his son in the business for 20 years with ethics that are unsurpassed. He enjoyed politics and was supportive of many candidates. He was proud of their accomplishments referring too many of them as his extended family. In particular, Thom referred to one familys children as his pseudo grandchildren and indulged them. Thank you Laura and John for the pleasure you gave him. Thom was active in the Collin Republican Party, worked in many campaign and served as a precinct chairman and elections judge. He served on the Collin grand jury 3 times with a passion, twice serving as foreman. Thoms love of traveling the world was only surpassed by the planning that went into the endeavor. In a few words, he lived life large. He loved taking his grandchildren on trips. He is survived by his wife, Kay, son Tom Jr. and his wife Kelly and 2 wonderful grandchildren, Stephen and Christopher. In addition, he is survived by his sister Ann and her family, and many extended family members. Visitation will be evening from 6 until 9pm at the Ted Dickey West . Entombment will be 11am at Ridgeview Memorial Park followed by a memorial service at 2pm at the First Christian Church of Plano. A reception will follow the service. His beloved friend and former Pastor Dr. Mike McConachie will officiate.
