Obituary: Mrs. Doris Key Barre, 90, of Germantown passed away at home on 29th, 2016. Mrs. Barre was born in Mt. Lebanon, Louisiana on 19th, 1925, to Ruby Myrtle Reese Key and Mason Gibbs Key of Mt. Lebanon, LA. She was very proud of being 90 years old and would remind everyone around her. She graduated from high school in Gibsland, LA where she was Salutatorian of her class. She went to business school in Shreveport, LA where she met and married Louis Albin Barre, III of Shreveport, LA. Mr. Barre became an officer in the United States Air Force and they traveled to and lived in many US States and Europe, spending the last 43 years in Hawaii. Mrs. Barre devoted a lot of time and energy to the Officers Wives Clubs. She also volunteered with the Girl Scouts, The American Red Cross, and the Family Services Organizations on numerous military bases. When asked what she thought of volunteer work, Mrs. Barre said, heir whole lives with the Air Force were more than volunteering, they were a commitment to their country. She was also an accomplished Japanese flower arranger and teacher. Her many interests included playing bridge, reading and gardening. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Louis Barre of Germantown, TN and her two daughters Carol Mauceri of Newmarket, NH, Janine Tretter Carney (James) of Germantown, TN and her beloved granddaughter Kelli Tretter McLain (Mac) of Collierville, TN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to any Veterans Organization, ASPCA, or other animal charities. Mrs. Barre will be interred at the National of the Pacific (Punchbowl ) in Honolulu, Hawaii at a later date. |

Obituary: Memphis legend Ernie Barrasso went to heaven morning at 6:30a.m. 31, 2012 after a long illness. Ernie lived his life with style and humor, generosity, and charm. At 18, he joined the United States Air Force serving his military career for seven years. returning home to 884 N. Parkway, be worked at Sears selling vacuum cleaners to make money to follow his dream of opening a night club in Memphis. He left Sears and began working for his uncle Frank Liberto selling cars for Ford Motor on 3rd & Gayosa. Being from North Memphis, he had friends from all the schools. He hung around with the guys from not only Catholic schools, but Humes, Treadwell, and all the schools in Memphis. His big thrill came after running with Red West & the Elvis Gang; he used to join them when they rented out the roller skating rink and the movie theaters after hours with Elvis and his many friends. One afternoon while watching television at Elvis house, an advertisement came on the TV showing the new Thunderbird sport car for Ford Motor . Elvis asked Ernie if he had seen the car, because he thought it was really cool, and that there was only a few Ford dealerships that were allowed to sell the car, as it was a limited edition. Ernie told Elvis that they had a red one on the showroom floor where he worked. Elvis told him he wanted to come by the next morning to see it. Elvis met Ernie at the lot, saw the car and told Ernie he would take it. doing the paperwork Elvis got in the car & someone snapped a picture of Elvis sitting in the front seat with Ernie standing by the open door. The picture has been in numerous books and memorabilia about the life of Elvis. Ernie always wanted to open a nightclub so he was always looking for a location to follow his dream. One afternoon, he went to the Shelbourn Apartments basement and he was approached by a gentleman about a job offer to take Junkets (Chartered planes to Las Vegas for gamblers to be able to go to Las Vegas with free air fare & lodging, as long as they were reputable and would gamble. Ernie loved the idea, and took the job while still owing his clubs. Whit his charm, he was successfully able to manage both successfully. He made the trips wonderful, by playing games on the plane, gluing money under the seat and calling out ticket stubs for winners. His job was to approve loans to people that needed it. His jacket rep. business grew so great and fast, he had to open an office with security, inviting people from all around Memphis. He arranged to have people picked up by plane at all the surrounding states like Arkansas, Mississippi and others were so excited that it had the possibilities of opening a night club there. He called his good friend Freddie Alfonso to look at the property which was only sawdust, and had the dream walking around and pointing to various spots saying he wanted to put the bar here and the band area there. It was very hard to imagine the layout, but Ernie did. talking to Freddie, they went to the bank and borrowed $1,800 and the loan was approved. Ernie left Hull Dobbs and began starting his dream. The nightclub opened and was a huge success. had people waiting in line to go in, and had entertainers that were just starting out like Flash & the Board of Directors, Isaac Hayes & many, many more. the Thunderbird Lounge, Ernie wanted to follow his dream of opening his first Disco in Memphis where he had seen one while visiting his cousin Gentleman Gene Delmont host of the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas. He visited a Disco which was the very latest form of entertainment in the nightclub scene. He walked in and loved it. His eyes got as big as saucers and he said Im going to bring Disco to Memphis, they will love it! On the way home, he envisioned finding a place where all of his many, many friends could meet, dance request their favorite songs from a DJ all under a big mirror ball, & love it. He found a spot on Cleveland & Crosstown where a man was selling his restaurant. Ernie walked in and right away in his mind he envisioned where he wanted everything to be. He always said he loved to have a place where all of his friends could go and people could meet new friends and enjoy life. He called the club Club Caesar because he was always impressed with the life of Caesar. As always with both clubs, Ernie, loving life and all people, stood at the front entrance greeting and welcoming people and always remembered everybodys name. He always tried to make his clubs a place where customers had the opportunity to meet people and feel at home. Club Caesar was absolutely The place to go. His mind was constantly thinking of new ideas. He hired a DJ that played all of the #1 hits, and every week, he had something new going on. When the DJ took a break, or Ernie decided that he wanted to take the mike, he would have Jam Sessions, dance contests, soul train lines and anything else he could think of so everybody could have fun. some years, he decided to open Ernies on Park Avenue. With all of his many followers, it was a huge success. People would come from all around to enter the Brick house contest, fashion shows, disco dance lessons and many more.
