Obituary: Norma Jane Howell Barber, 93, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of the late Melvin Bud Barber died , 4, 2017. Her Service will be held , 16, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:00 pm where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Normas burial will be held later in Arlington National joining her late husband after 56 years of marriage. Norma was born May 31, 1924 in New Lexington, Ohio, daughter of the late Vern V. Howell and the late Dorothy Lillian Dunkle Howell. She graduated from Madison High School and retired as a medical office manager. She was an active member of the Democratic Party of Ohio, a member of the SPCA and a former member of First Christian Church, Mansfield, Ohio. She is survived by daughter, Dr. Michale Mickey Barber, (Bob Graf) of Isle Of Palms, SC; grandchildren, Brandt Barber, Chloe Bott, Cameron Segal, Lindsay Segal and Gracie Bott. Obituary: George Allen Barber, 78, of Hanahan, S.C., entered into eternal rest 25, 2014, with his family by his side. He was born to George Brenneisen Barber and Margaret Adaline Haney, 7, 1936, in Stroudsburg, Pa. He married Joan Ann Kissner on 5, 1959. lived primarily in Charleston, S.C. and had three children together before her death on 26, 1974. He remarried to Donna Mundkowski Rochester on 4, 1981, forming a new family with seven children. George and Donna have been married 33 years. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on , 29, 2014 in Divine Redeemer Catholic Church at 12:00 pm. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will follow in Holy Cross . The family will receive friends on , 28, 2014 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Rd., from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with vigil and rosary beginning at 6:00 pm. George graduated from Stroudsburg High School in 1954 and joined the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Fiske, USS Carp, USS Casimir Pulaski, USS John C. Calhoun, and USS Ethan Allen. While serving on the USS John C. Calhoun he participated in the only complete operational test of a submarine launched, nuclear-armed Polaris missile in May 1962. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer after nearly 23 years of service on 30, 1977. his military retirement, George worked for ManTech International and for Rosenblatt & Associates as a technical writer specializing in naval equipment. He was a facility and equipment maintenance superintendent with George C. Sharpe and the Defense Accounting & Finance Service. He was recognized as the Charleston Area Federal Employee of the Year for 2002. He retired in 2008. Throughout his life, George was a member of many organizations providing service to the community. He was a faithful member of Divine Redeemer Catholic Church serving as a Eucharistic Minister since 1981. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Donald J. Godfrey Council, serving as Grand Knight in 2004 - 2005, and the Msgr. Richard C. Madden Assembly, serving as Past Faithful Navigator in 1992 - 1993. He was awarded the Knights of Columbus South Carolina State Council Patriotism Award for 1997 and the Golden Knight of the Year for 1993. He was a member of the 40 Days for Life pro-life organization providing leadership since 2008, and served as the Charleston Area Director in 2008. He was also a member of American Legion Post 0166, regular donor to the American Red Cross and enjoyed activities with the Summerville Sams Camping Club. George is survived by his wife Donna Rochester Barber; his children: Dianne Barber Saltzman, George Allen Barber Jr., and Thomas Lee Barber; his step-children: Cory Wayne Rochester, Tracy Lynn Wentworth, Sandra Marie Rochester, and Terry Scott Rochester; their spouses, 12 grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and his sister, Ellanore Barber Freeman. George was always working with his hands, able to repair nearly anything and especially enjoyed working on cars. He had a mischievous grin and a sparkle in this eye for anyone he cared for and loved. George is remembered by many for his warm, giving heart, especially to those most vulnerable: the unborn. He was a friend with a listening heart, ready to offer help. He had a prayerful heart, in which family and friends take comfort in knowing he acts as an intercessor still. Obituary: COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Mary Letha Atkinson Barber, 85, of Columbia will be held on , 17, 2016 at North Trenholm Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service in the main sanctuary. Dunbar , Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mary, daughter of the late Joseph E. Atkinson, Sr. of St. Charles and Letha Brabham Mims Atkinson of Barnwell was born on 18, 1930 in St. Charles, S.C. She graduated from Bishopville High School and the University of South Carolina. Mary retired from the Finance & Accounting Office at Fort Jackson and always attended the retiree’s quarterly luncheons to keep in touch with former co-workers. She was a member of the Early Risers School class at North Trenholm Baptist Church. Mary was a caring and giving person who always put others first. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening. She was an animal lover and really missed Mitzi, her beloved beagle that predeceased her. She also loved and enjoyed her four grandsons and spent a lot of time with them. Christmas gatherings in Bishopville, SC were always a special time with her extended family, enjoying food and fellowship. Surviving are her son, Ronald F. Barber (Jennifer Fleishel) of Columbia; daughters, Janice C. Barber (Bob Nielsen) of Cornelius, NC, Melinda E. Barber (T.J. Hickey) of Columbia; grandchildren, Adam Barber, Charles Barber, Benjamin Barber and Jonathan Barber; thirteen nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the two loves of her life, Fred Barber, her husband of 15 years and a very special friend, Burnell Roberson; four brothers, Clifton Atkinson (Emma Lee), Thomas Atkinson (Willie Mae), Joe Atkinson, Jr. (Betty), Lionel Mims; and one sister, Julia Logan (Dan); a niece, Patricia Logan Madray; and two nephews, Ricky Atkinson and Clifton “Bebo” Atkinson. Obituary: Leroy M. Barber Jr., Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret.) COLUMBIA service for Leroy M. Barber Jr., Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret.), 80, will be held at 2:00 p.m. , May 17, 2015, at Union United Methodist Church, with burial at 10:00 a.m. on , May 18, 2015, in Ft. Jackson National . The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Dunbar , Dutch Fork Chapel, is assisting the family. Col. Barber passed away , May 9, 2015. He was born in 1935 in Worcester, Mass. but grew up in Rhode Island where his two sisters were born to Leroy and Harriet Barber. He graduated from Providence in 1956 and at the same time was commissioned a 2Lt. in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps. A year later, he married the former Elizabeth “Betty” Kenyon and entered active duty. He had a variety of assignments which included being the commander of three medical companies and three battalions. Col. Barber served as the medical advisor to the 1st Vietnamese Corp during that conflict and later in the same capacity to the Saudi Army and Air Force. While in the Army, he earned a master’s degree in Hospital Administration from Baylor University and graduated from the Army Command and General Staff . His last two assignments were as the administrator of army hospitals, the last one being Fort Jackson where he retired in 1984. Col. Barber’s military awards include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Vietnamese Honor Medal First Class, the Expert Field Medical Badge and the Master Parachutist Badge. Following his retirement, he became the administrator for the W. S. Hall Psychiatric Institute until 2000. He was a Fellow in the American of Executives, was active in the S.C. Hospital Association and served as a university preceptor for students earning their master’s degree. He was a U.S. Coast Guard licensed master captain and an avid boater. He was a Past Commander of the Lake Murray Power Squadron and a Past President of the Lake Murray Association. In 1999, he married the former Deedie Faile Dukes. He was predeceased by his first wife, Betty Kenyon and his son, Kevin Barber. He is survived by his wife, Deedie Barber; a son, Keith Barber and his wife, Brenda; a daughter, Jennifer Barber; stepsons, Craig Dukes and his wife, Rhonda, Jon Dukes and his wife, Dawn, Jason Dukes and his wife, Esmeralda; and nine grandchildren, Bethany Barber, Dawn Barber, triplets, Chandler, Logan and Victoria Dukes, Coleman Dukes, Nicolette Dukes, Katelyn Dukes and Alexis Dukes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Lee Barber to The Lake Murray Association, P.O. Box 495, Ballentine, SC 29002.
