Obituary: Winona Carol (Booser) Bogle, 55, of DuBois, went home to be with Jesus on 16, 2014 at Penn Highlands DuBois. She was born on 9, 1958 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of William and Lois Booser. On 20, 1991 she married Gary Bogle, he survives. Winona graduated from Brookville High School in 1976 and is a graduate of DuBois Business . She was employed by the Jeffersonian Democrat, DuBois Courier and PA State Assistance Office. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing. She loved singing at church and had a beautiful voice that blessed everyone who heard it. She also enjoyed traveling. Winona was a very caring person who was always there to encourage people. She was an active member at Treasure Lake Church and belonged to women of faith. Winona is survived by husband Gary, mother, Lois Booser of Brookville, two step sons: George (Renee) Bogle of St. Marys and Andy Bogle of DuBois, a step brother, Dallas Booser of MI, aunts, uncles, numerous cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father, William Booser, in-laws Don and Kay Bogle, grandparents, and cousin Tommy Lowry. A funeral service will be held at 7:00pm on , 19, 2014 at the Treasure Lake Church with Rev. Richard Whitaker officiating. Burial will be in Morningside . Obituary: Memories of Marie Kanalas Bogle She was a private woman, at times reserved, yet when with her family and close friends, she was outgoing, funny, and straightforward. You may not have always known what she was thinking. But you always understood that if you asked her something, she would give you an honest answer, and she would let you know exactly how she felt. For the most part, she quietly kept to herself, was kind, and there was always something unique and magical in the way she expressed herself through her personal style: quality bags and shoes, home décor, and jewelry. All those qualities always made her intriguing and fascinating to observe. Such was the nature of Marie Kanalas Bogle, whom her family and friends cherished and loved deeply. Marie Kanalas was born on 25, 1936, in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Mikhail, a courtly Hungarian immigrant, who arrived in this country at Ellis Island, and started a new life for himself with his warm and friendly American wife, the former Esther Brandon. Theirs was a lively and sometimes hectic home on Coates Street where kids were running about, playing games, vying for attention. Marie had eight siblings: Marvel, Georgiana, Gladys, James, Delores, Dorothy, Agnes, and Cynthia. She was baptized at the Second Baptist Church of Coatesville where her mother was a member and also played the organ. With her engaging personality, Marie got along well with others but kept her innermost feelings to herself. Music was one of her youthful passions, all kinds of music, gospel, rhythm and blues, classical. Her other youthful and lifelong passion was found in the wonders of books. Never was there a time in her life when she was not in the middle of a book, and it was all types of reading material, novels, social histories, political studies, and especially biographies and memoirs. She loved learning about the way people lived in times past and present, their triumphs, their disappointments, their hardships, and their ability to surmount whatever difficulties they faced. Reading helped her develop new interests, and it broadened her view of the world. She was quick to tell you, Im from Coatesville! It was a badge of honor, a way of letting everyone know her roots and the fact that she couldn easily be misled. Yet as a girl, partly because of the books she read, she yearned to see a world outside Coatesville. She had drive and ambition. Once she graduated from high school, she spent a year working at a nearby store in Coatesville. But she stayed focused on what she wanted next in life. Having saved her money, she sent herself to Cheyney State where she planned to major in education, to become a teacher, to work with the young. At Cheyney, she was also a cheerleader, played hockey, and was well-liked. But her main goal was to continue her education. That changed, however, once she met a charismatic, good-looking student named Robert Bogle, whom she always called Bobby. She was captivated by Bobby Bogle, by his boundless energy, by his fierce ambition, and yes, by his charm. He in turn was captivated by Marie Kanalas, her composure, her intelligence, her wide range of interests, her sense of herself, and yes, also by her beauty. By this time, she had become a stunning young woman. People actually stopped in their tracks and did double-takes when she walked past them. Her personal style had also further developed. Even as a college student, she had impeccable taste. In the end, Marie temporarily put her education on hold and did something she might not have imagined shed do the day she entered Cheyney. She fell in love. their sophomore year, Marie and Bobby ran off and got married. Everyone felt they were too young. But that didn matter to them. When the newlyweds visited Bobs Aunt Octavia in New York, she was quick to say that they simply couldn keep their eyes off one another, couldn be out of one anothers sight for more than a few minutes. Now they were off on an adventure that would prove demanding and challenging. For a time, they lived with Maries sister Georgiana, called simply Georgie, and her husband Ernest Lolly Kydd in New London, Connecticut. Marie and Bob found jobs in the area. Then the couple moved to Bobs hometown, Yeadon, Pennsylvania. had two children, Robert Jr., and Mariska. At first they lived in a small apartment. Then they bought their own home on Brookside Avenue. Running a household and rearing two children, who she was devoted to, took up a lot of Maries time. Her children were the center of her universe. She marveled at everything they said and did and supported them in their dreams and aspirations. Yet she was frank with them about lifes responsibilities and obligations. Both Marie and Bob returned to Cheyney to complete work on their degrees. graduating in 1970, Marie immediately began graduate studies at Antioch University where she was awarded her Masters Degree in Education. Sometime later she did additional graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania and Cheyney which was now Cheyney University. In 1971, she began her distinguished teaching career in the Philadelphia educational system at John Bartram High School. Later she taught at the James Rhoades Elementary School, the William C. Bryant Elementary School, and then at the Dr. Charles Turner Middle School. In 1975, the family moved to Lincoln Avenue in Yeadon, right across the street from the home where Bob had grown up. Both enjoyed being near Bobs widowed mother Roslyn Woods Bogle. Marie cherished the times during the week when she would spend time with Roslyn. On s and s, Bob would sit with his mother as she prepared breakfast. s were always doubly special for Marie and Bob because of Roslyns homemade biscuits.
