Obituary: Edmund J. Bockowski, of Souderton, died 23, 2012 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. He was 74 years of age. Born in Buttonwood, PA, he was the son of the late Amelia and Zigmund Bockowski of Wilkes-Barre, PA. He formerly resided in Lansdale, Chalfont, Furlong, Hatboro and Philadelphia. Ed was a graduate of Kings and St. Josephs’ University obtaining a Bachelor’s of Science and a Master’s Degree in Chemistry. Ed served in the U.S. Navy active and reserves from 1962-1967. In 1964, Ed joined Betz Laboratories as a chemist and had a career spanning more than 30 years before retiring in 1997. During his career, Ed obtained 25 U.S. and foreign patents. Ed was an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing with his son Patrick, his grandson Nicholas and a large group of golfing friends. He was a quintessential Philadelphia sports fan, loving the Phillies, Eagles, Sixers, Flyers and Big Five Basketball. Ed made regular trips to Phillies Spring Training and Eagles training camp. Ed enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, glass art, coin collecting and travel. Ed loved animals and had a longtime friend in his dog Oscar, who accompanied him on many long walks over a 13 year period. Not too long ago he adopted another little buddy named Edgar. Sadly with his untimely passing, he didn’t get to spend much time with Edgar. Most of all, Ed enjoyed his family and friends. In addition to his former wife, Patricia Cerminaro, he is survived by his children Laura A. Bockowski of North Wales, Cynthia Hill of Doylestown, Patrick Gibson of Warrington. He is also survived by four amazing grand children: Kristin (McClinton) Lester, Marissa Gibson, Maria Gibson and Nicholas Gibson all of Warrington. He was also fortunate enough to become a Great Grandfather to a smart little boy by the name of Dominic Gibson. Ed is also survived siblings Joseph Bockowski, Gerald Bockowski and Gloria Maturnich all of Wilkes-Barre, PA and a special friend and companion, Laura Ann Deluca of Fraser, PA. There will be a memorial service at William R. May in North Wales, PA on , May 5, 2012 at 12:00 noon. Friends and family may call after 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Best Friends Animal Society. Also, please consider sharing a remembrance with Ed’s family and friends. At the end of the service, these stories will be shared. |
