Obituary: Elaine F. (nee Finkenauer) Bater, 82, of Devon, PA, passed away on 20, 2015. Elaine was the loving wife of William Bater, III; whom she first met in elementary school and was happily married to for 62 years and daughter of the late Dorothy (nee MacEntee) & Frederick Finkenauer. Elaine graduated from Atlantic City HS in 1949 and received her degree in from Atlantic City Hospital School of . That same year she married William Bater III and began their family, before relocating to Villanova, PA in 1971. Elaine spent many years actively involved in several charitable committees; The Charity League of Atlantic , The Thomas Jefferson University Womens Board \ Maternity Committee and The Devon Horse Show. Later in life she discovered her passion for interior design and received her degree from Harcum in 1989. Elaine utilized her degree to partner with her daughter, Elizabeth Bater Zelov, to begin their design firm, Elizabeth Bater Interiors. Elaine had a great appreciation for Classical music, theater and the arts. She was an extraordinary wife, mother and grandmother. Her warmhearted demeanor welcomed everyone she encountered in her life. Elaine was predeceased by a brother: Frederick (the late Peggy). Surviving are 5 children: Diana (Michael) Bantz, Barbara (Thomas) Bater Conigliaro, William IV (Cindy) Bater, Jeffrey (Marina) Bater and Elizabeth (V. Scott) Zelov; 12 grandchildren and 1 brother: Theodore Ted (the late Patricia). Relatives and friends may call on Sat. Jan. 24, 2015 from 12:30-1PM, downstairs in the Sacred Heart Chapel of Our Lady of the Assumption Church: 35 Old Eagle School Rd., Strafford, PA. A Mass of Catholic Burial will begin at 1PM. Obituary: Shirley J. Bateman, 82, of Swatara Township, passed away at her home on , 4, 2015. Shirley was born in Newport, PA on 27, 1932. She was married to Harry W. Bateman Sr., to whom she had four boys \ the first when she was 17 and the last when she was 26. Shirley devoted her life to her family and made caring for those she loved her highest priority. serving others as a waitress for over 30 years, she eventually retired after a period of caring for children in her home. Shirley will be remembered as a courageous woman who persevered through a life that brought many challenges. Through it all, she maintained a certain elegance, wit, and charm that was easily seen in her contagious smile that could light up a room. Surviving are her two sons, Daniel Bateman (Lana) of Florida and Steven Bateman (Kim) of Harrisburg. Also surviving are a brother and sister, Earl Bitner of Middletown and Ruby Rupley of Elizabethtown, along with six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by two sons, Harry Bateman Jr. and Michael Bateman, along with a brother, Richard Peterman Sr. and three sisters; Betty Barbour, Gladys Boykin, and Jean Kistler. Graveside services will be held on , 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Steve Bateman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or to the American Society for the Preventation of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). |
