Obituary: Obituary Roosevelt William Bacon, Jr., affectionately called Bill or Billy by family and friends, was born 5, 1958, in Savannah, Georgia to the late Roosevelt William Bacon Sr. and the late Jeannette Jones-Bacon. He received his public education from the Liberty School District in Georgia. He continued his secular education at Morris Brown University and he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, , Physical Education and Recreation in May of 1981. In May of 1983 he received a Master of Arts Degree, Education Administration and Supervision from Atlanta University. Bill was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He received his early Christian education in St. James A.M.E. Church, Freedman Grove, GA. There he received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. Bill enlisted in the U.S Air Force in of 1985 and served his country for six years. He served as a recreation specialist while stationed at Beale AFB, Marysville, CA and at Moody AFB, Valdosta, GA. Bill also served in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. He received many commendations for his service. He was Honorably Discharged in 1991. During this period of time, Bill was introduced to the love of his life, Stacy Renee Gaskins, on Easter , , 1985 by his beloved Aunt, the late Jessie M. Jones. were united in marriage on 13, 1986, in Marysville, CA. enjoyed 27 years of marriage. Unto this union they were blessed with 6 beautiful children – one, Kianna Shanelle, preceded him in death. Throughout his lifetime Bill was employed by various companies which included Liberty Regional Library, the Atlanta Constitution Newspaper, and Interstate Paper Corporation. His last place of employment was The City of Philadelphias Juvenile Justice Services . While employed there he made a positive impact on many young men who came through the . He would often be greeted in the streets with a hug and a handshake from those whose lives he impacted. He was employed there for 18 ½ years. When Bill relocated with his family from Valdosta, GA he joined St. Paul A.ME Church under the pastorate of the late Percy L. Ransome, in 1991. He was a faithful member. He served as a member of the Male Chorus (and his favorite song was I Don Know About Tomorrow); Junior Steward Board, Steward Board and Trustee Board. He also served as Captain, Co-Chair and Chairperson of The Annual Mens Day Programs. He loved his church family and he always said that he would rather be in Gods house more than anywhere else. Bill loved his family. He was a very kind and loving person. He often assisted others by providing transportation, running errands for the elderly and being helpful in general to anyone who was in need. Many times he would buy food for the homeless or offer them something hot or cold to drink. He was a true sports fan and loved to cheer on the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Eagles. He was a lover of music and could quote the artists, song title and year that the record was released. Bill often shared with his wife, that he looked forward to starting his day by getting his praise on listening to Gospel music on 103.9 FM before going into work each day. Sorrowfully, on 29, 2013 Bill became ill and was hospitalized at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, PA. He travailed with his illness until God called him from labor to reward early morning, 27, 2014. He leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Stacy Renee; 5 children, Kristina Lynnae, Brandon Michael, Brianna Michelle, Alisha Nicole and Ciara Simone; 2 granddaughters, Amayah Shanelle and Ayanna Ciara Nicole; and his beloved brother, Benjamin K. Bacon, I; 5 beloved aunts, Hazel Bacon (who was like a second mother to him), Hattie Ray (Eddie), Geraldine Alford, Blanche Milton and Sandra Holt (Joel); 1 beloved uncle, Edward Milton; 3 nieces, Antoinette, Rosette, and Shanta; 1 nephew, Benjamin II; 1 great-niece, 1 great-nephew; father-in-law, Harry Gaskins, Jr.; 2 brothers-in-law, John D. Gaskins and Harry Tucker; and a host of other relatives and friends. Lovingly submitted, The Family My Darling Billy, When we met so long ago, I never dreamed that one day you would be mine. But as time went on we began a dance that would soon cause our hearts to intertwine. You brought so much joy to me, something I thought would never be.
