Obituary: Family, friends, and colleagues will be saddened to learn of the passing of Lyle Gene Boom, who died in Portland, Oregon on May 9, 2016 at the age of 88. Lyle was born in Chancellor, South Dakota on 2, 1927 to Ted and Christine (Otten) Boom. The family had a corn farm, and Lyle worked on it until he joined the Army in 1945. his honorable service, he returned to South Dakota, where he married Rosemary Jarding in Turner on May 10, 1948. moved to Oregon City, returned to South Dakota briefly, then settled in Oregon permanently in 1951. Mr. Boom worked for Liberty Fuel and Ice hauling ice and coal. When they started an HVAC operation, he apprenticed before receiving support from the owners and going into business on his own. Rose Heating became the Boom family business, and after retiring in his early 60s, Lyle passed it on to his son Dave. Lyle loved to cook, especially for very large groups. It wasn uncommon for him to have over thirty steaks on the grill at once. He also enjoyed golf, square dancing with Rosemary, and many outdoor activities. He and Rosemary began to snowbird in Mesa, Arizona before retirement, and spent more and more time there each year as time went on. He was preceded in death by Rosemary in 1999, and by a son, Danny Boom. He will be missed by his children, Dave Boom of Portland and Donna Hasler of Colorado; brothers Richard Boom and Gene Boom; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. |

Obituary: Shhh,I am still here in spirit, don’t cry for me, only remember me for my laughter, my preaching to you and know that I have always valued honesty, hard work and the love I shared with family and friends". Those are the last words that My dad said to me. Dad was a strong and gentle man, who adored his sons, daughters, grand and great-grandchildren as well as his sisters, brother, niece & nephews and cousins as well as his son in law. He treated everyone he met with respect and kindness. Our dad loved all kinds of music, from classical, country, folk, blues, R&B and hiphop. He was also an artist and a man of wisdom and understanding. He liked taking weekly trips to the library and he would checkout good books and movies, then returning to his home starting a small fire in the fire place then curling up on the couch or his favorite lazy boy chair next to the big picture window as his three little cats moved through the house like family. Our dad enjoyed the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and its local beaches and the Pacific Ocean coastline and light houses. While out on his trips he would always have his music playing and a cold PBR near. He enjoyed being around friends and watching the beauty and performance of exotic dancers at the local Gentleman’s Club. Dad loved life and he respected the law and was a law abiding citizen. He was not an ordained minister but sometimes he would preach away and say things like " Clothe yourself with humility towards one another, keep your senses, be watchful and stand firm in your faith, obey the law, love your family, pay tribute to your departed loved ones, and go to their burial sites once in a while. |
