Obituary: Shawnee resident Lester J. Bettelyoun, Sr., 81, passed away , 12, 2016. He was born May 9, 1935 in Martin, South Dakota to Isaac and Sofia (Wabanascum) Bettelyoun. He attended Holy Rosary Mission Red Cloud Indian School in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. Lester joined the United States Air Force and served from 1954 - 1958. He went on to become a police offer. He worked for the Shawnee Police Department as well as Southern Pacific Police Department. In his later years, Lester worked at Wal-Mart. He was a member of the SPCA, VFW, Fraternal Order of Police, Defenders of Wildlife and the NRA. Lester was Oglala Sioux and was very proud of his American Indian Heritage. He had a wonderful sense of humor and never met a stranger. He stood by the philosophy, if you don have anything nice to say, don say anything at all. Lester was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend who was greatly loved and will be dearly missed. Lester was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Howard, Vance, Isaac, Edith, Ethyl, and Waldron Bettelyoun; children, Chad Bettelyoun, Charles Bettelyoun, and Lester Bettelyoun, Jr.. Those left to cherish their memories are his wife, Donna Bettelyoun; numerous children, grandchildren, other family members, and friends. Visitation will be 8a-8p at Resthaven . Services will be 2pm at Resthaven with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Services are under the care of Resthaven . |
