Obituary: Alabama, Phenix City - Robert Bob Beaty, 85, passed away 28, 2009 at the Greenhouse at Calvary. A Celebration of a life in ministry will be held on , 30 at Edgewood Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. David Howle officiating. The family will receive guests and friends at Striffler - Hamby from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. on , 29. Rev. Beaty was born in Memphis, TN to John Allen and Mattie Beaty. His older brother, Jack, was the first casualty of World War II from Memphis, TN. His surviving sister, Joy, is a resident of Clairmont, California. Rev. Beaty received his bachelors degree from The University of Memphis, his masters of education degree from Columbia University, Bachelor of Divinity and Masters degree in Religious Education from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He served in the armed forces from 1942 till 1949 at the rank of Lieutenant as a navy pilot. Rev. Beaty served as a missionary with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention for 29 years in the countries of Zimbabwe and Boputhatswana, and also conducted numerous Christian conferences around the world. Rev. Beaty is survived by his wife of 59 years, Thelma Katherine Beaty, and four sons, Jack Beaty and wife, Lucilita of Charlotte, North Carolina, Dr. David Beaty and wife, Pam of Durban, South Africa, Dr. Stephen Beaty and wife, Jane of Columbus, Georgia, and Timothy Beaty and wife, Miriam of Brisbane, Australia. He had seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering through Edgewood Baptist Church. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the Greenhouse and to Columbus Hospice for their care and loving support. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Dr. Dan Troy Beatty, and grandson Craig Shipley BeattyJr. Survivors include sons Troy Beatty (Melanie) of Green Pond, Randy Beatty (Becky) of wood, Mark Beatty (Maggie) of Stuart, Fla., and Craig Beatty (Judy) of Mountain Brook; daughter Susan Beatty Carpenter (John) of Thorsby; grandchildren Ashley Ryan, Lisa Riddle, Lauren Cirel, Jessica Trammell (Kris), Matthew Beatty, Mark Beatty, Mary Celia Beatty, Anthony Gallagher, Melissa Gallagher, Allison Beatty, Madelyn Beatty, Lily Beatty, Jack Beatty and John Gorby Carpenter; and great grandchildren Dylan Cirel, Bree Trammel and Kason Trammell. She was a native of Baltimore, attended Mount Saint Agnes and graduated Union Memorial School of . Member Saint Luke's Episcopal Church, Stitchers, and served as receptionist many years. Member of Sprig of Holly Garden Club, The Club, bridge club and past member Services Guild of Birmingham and Gaieties Dance Club.
